Who obsconded with Pikes Peak Area Earth Day?

Famed environmentalist Denis Hayes spoke at Colorado College last week, and it was very tempting to ask the creator of EARTH DAY what he thought about speaking to an audience which had eliminated theirs. Oh, we have Earth Month, and CC has Earth Week, to make room ostensibly for the growing plethora of environmentalist activities, to a thinning crowd unfortunately. Shrinking the party is a curious strategy, don't you think? Obviously the Earth deserves more than a day's commemoration, but the point of an Earth Day, is to concentrate popular attention toward building global community. Perhaps the new "Earth Hour" attempts to recapture that focus, you'd think there might be a happy medium, such as... Earth Day?! We're content with holidays of a day duration. America's uber-patriots would have expanded the 4th of July to Independence Month, if such a thing was really meant to be effective. We do not have Memorial Month, or Veteran's Month, or Christmas or Easter Months either. Oddly, Pikes Peak environmentalists chose to expand their drinking hours to last a month, encompassing more eco-themed happy hours to please their members-only. Local common folks looking beyond the usual corporate media antagonist apathy on subjects environmental,

Visit Chicago for mirth and adventure

MoveOn wants to mobilize the world's largest nonviolence movement, calling on the 99% to teach-in itself in time for their American Spring. That's certain to sound more palatable to America's unbaptized middle-roaders, than the invitation above, invoking the reception likely awaiting protesters who plan to converge on Chicago in May. The G8 has been relocated to Camp David, but the larger NATO summit is still scheduled to warrant a two mile wide security perimeter around downtown Chicago. What does this poster communicate to you? I'm guessing the menacing image wasn't chosen at random, it says to me the unadventurous need not apply.

Four Occupy tormentors unmasked

Occupy Colo. Springs held a NO WAR ON IRAN demo today, counter- protested by some soldiers who think any antiwar criticism of their mission fails to Support The Troops. (Horrifyingly curious don't you think, that US soldiers would already consider war with Iran as their mission?!) Joining them it turned out, were four of OCS's sneakiest saboteurs. I got them with one camera click! From right to ultra-right: Raven Martinez aka Briaunna Webbing aka Occupy Csprings, Michael Clifton aka Agent of Doubt, Ian Carman aka "Father" Ian, and Ryan Butler aka Ry King aka Lone Wolf. 30920

Occupy chants

OCCUPIED DENVER- So we got a little bored with Saturday's march, the white-bread marchers being kept to three chants, (99%, Democracy & Our Streets). Parade marshals insisted procession not overtake a fat woman in a wheelchair, preventing the march from stretching out and disrupting any more than two blocks at a time, effectively handicapping the march! For respite we got some giggles by greeting some third story well-wishers with this variant: "OUT OF THE WINDOW, INTO THE STREET!" Absent on Saturday were anti-imperialists to mix it up, which prompted me to inventory chants to remember to bring to the next events. 29261

Hey Pikes Peak Region lazy bones, #OccupyColoradoSprings is calling!

By lazy bones I don't mean the average inattentive public, I'm talking about you do-gooders out there trying to right wrongs and effect political change, usually. A growing gatherings of youthful idealists are "occupying" hometowns across the country, focusing on the heart of all problems, corporate greed, and you're carrying on as if no one's taken the bull by the horns. They're inexperienced youth, but they know enough not to get pulled off message by Tea Partiers or partisan Dems. Daily General Assemblies at noon and 7pm refortify them that the movement is about LOVE. Of course they could use your help, opportunity's knocking, but apparently your regular routine says "do not disturb." 28114

If it weren’t for the nonviolence sneaks

In honor of Oct 2, the International Day of Nonviolence, which hardly any government of the world honors IN DEED, especially the league of NATO and USA's coalition of the killing. I thought I'd perseverate further on the role nonviolent dogma plays in squashing dissent. Here's my theme: If it weren't for the nonviolence sneaks the antiwar movement of the 60s might have deposed the military industrial complex before it became supersized, privatized and above the law. Or not, but NV claptrap certainly got us nowhere. 28051

IRS says Cindy Sheehan owes $104K more in taxes than MF General Electric

From Cindy Sheehan, Facebook, Aug 29, 7PM PST: "I just got a notice from the IRS that I owe them 104 grand and they are going to levy my bank accounts and property. I don't have any property and there's less than 150.00 in my bank accounts. Looks like Fed Prison is in my future. I would rather go to prison than fund the crimes of this government. I am going to send them a notice that they owe me infinity dollars for killing my son."   When the MF IRS goes after the highest visibility, loudest voice, friend of world leaders, first name world celebrity, icon of American antiwar and anti-imperialist movement... WHO CAN DISSENT and feel safe? (Cindy- "Infinity" won't compute and doesn't allow for a ceiling, I'm sorry to suggest you put a value on Casey's head, but how about 1.7 Trillion? Obviously they can manage that.)

Will occupying the streets Sept 17, Oct 6 and 15 precipitate an American Fall?

"American Fall" would be a pun, yes. A pan-Arabian-like Spring causing the US anti-democracy to tumble, being the objective. The English riots have put a dark spin on what might be Middle America's reception to popular uprising, but mark the dates, because the brass ring nears whether you have the courage or not, and you won't have the stomach for the alternative.   You've probably already sensed the buzz about #SEPT17, campus groups across the country have been bypassing the conventional chaperones to coordinate OCCUPY WALL STREET. Can they do it? Not without your help, and that doesn't mean switching your phone service or knocking on doors to Get Out The Vote. 26248

Chicago G8 protest planners offer city guarantees of usual ineffectual actions

Organizers meeting today to plan against next year's G8 summit in Chicago hit the ground running --backward. On Friday a spokesperson for one of the coalition partners offered this assurance to the Chicago Tribune: “Our goal is a legal, permitted, family friendly march where people can come and have their voices heard in a safe environment.” Interesting. The objective of successful past anti-globalization protests has been no less than to shut the undemocratic summits down. 27093

Organize, but think outside the school

I love this graphic, it's clever, it's instructional, sort of. It offers at least the illusion of parity in a big fish eats little fish world. Because you know, it's not going to work unless one of the little fishies is packing a spear gun.

At the feet of Pan-Arabian Revolution, US activists show their stripes: yellow

So-called respected activists in the West are weighing in on what's next for the pro-Palestinian struggle. Based on their informal survey of comments and tweets of unknown provenance, the conclusion being reached is that Egypt needs a breather, that Egypt's new Junta needs time to show its hand, before international efforts to relieve Gaza should resume. This, in vivid contrast to the activists of Pan-Arabia who know to strike while the iron is hot. Not only do Americans and Europeans have naught a trace of the courage shown by our North African allies, we don't even have the stomach to see them rise to the occasion again. Prudence we caution, but who are we to pretend expertise on the matter? Where have well respected organizers got the Gazans so far? No one's questioning best intentions. Tahrir Square #Jan25 means you've been served. Stand the fuck up, or shut it.

Opposing war is not a crime: stop FBI suppression of antiwar activists JAN 25

COLORADO SPRINGS - JANUARY 25 - Protest the recent FBI raids and the DOJ grand jury subpoenas aimed at intimidating members of antiwar and Palestinian rights groups. Join Coloradans For Peace and compatriots beneath the windows of the FBI field office, located in the Plaza of the Rockies downtown, the complex where activists have been prevented from visiting their senator's office, mostly a mall of investment bankers and brokerage firms. Not without irony, the main facade is named for war profiteer consultancy Booz Allen Hamilton. Come Tuesday Jan 25, from 4pm to 5pm. Meet on the NE corner of Tejon & Colorado.   Some consider the FBI to be the lesser of the US intelligence community's seventeen known evils. Shall we draw the line at surveillance, infiltration and instigation of peace advocacy groups? Eric Holder's Department of Justice won't go after war criminals, torturers, or any facet of President Obama's accelerated abuses on human rights. But they want to target humanitarian groups in hopes of tying their social causes to "terrorism, " the traditional authoritarian label for political rival.

Not-Violence: Pie Any Means Necessary

From Pie Any Means Necessary by the Bionic Baking Brigade:   "...our weapons of choice hurt nothing more than the image and ego of our targets. Although we don’t claim to be nonviolent in the proactive Gandhian sense, we do claim to be not violent."

Jeju Island antiwar resisters under attack today by US and S. Korean Navy

Activist Bruce Gagnon reports that Jeju Island villagers face eminent attack today from US and South Korean navy who've been determined to seize the Jeju coast for an Aegis destroyer base in the American bid for a militarized encirclement of China. Local antiwar ally Sung-Hee Choi is among the peaceful resisters anticipating today's crackdown under cover of Korean tensions over another disputed island, and facing the usual western media blackout. 12/27 UPDATE

How to defeat Kettling

The British anarchists showed the way. Kettling, by the way, is the full scope of the 'free speech zone" bullshit the pigs like to publicize. "Free" speech but only in an area enclosed by a wall of police armor, clubs, tear gas, pain weapons, and of course conveniently far far away from witnesses like the so-called "free" press. And when the "free" press actually do wander too close to the "Free' speech zone, they're arrested for inciting a riot. But the Brits showed the way, last week, successfully mobbing Prince Charles' car, frightening him and his beard Camelface. errr "bride Camilla" yeah, that's the ticket. And the method is simple in its brilliance and brilliant in its simplicity. 20789

Power already knows the truth

As the election nears, I recall Ward Churchill's rejection of a modern activist's purported objective, "speaking truth to power," as left-leaning voices speak up to validate the Democratic Party's inherent claim to represent what the Republicans do not. As if the corporate status quo doesn't know very well the reforms it is resisting. Speaking truth to power is not tilting at windmills, it's flapping your arms in a charade, to convey your divination of a windmill's function, to responses of shoulder-shrugging at the omniscience of power, literally. Democrats have absolutely nothing to offer except lip service. What else is new. So why are even stalwart leftists calling this horse race like they've got a candidate in the running?

Animal Liberation Lone Wolf betrayed by ATF informant, literature and tattoo

Pardon the delay, but when an activist is arrested for the literature he's carrying, I've got to find that material. 34-year-old Walter Edmund Bond was arraigned today for setting the Denver Sheepskin Factory fire in May. ATF agents report that in his knapsack was a tract entitled Declaration of War: Killing People to Save the animals and the Environment The ATF alleges his copy was subtitled: Strike a Match, Light a Fuse, We Only Have the Earth to Lose. Bond was arrested after an informant taped him confessing to being the "Lone Wolf" who took credit on an Animal Liberation Front website. In the meantime, media outlets have linked Bond to a 1977 conviction for arson, failing to note he would have served the time as a toddler. (Turns out "1977" was a typo.) 19013

Condemnation of Israeli state piracy

COLO. SPRINGS- Join IMPROMPTU PROTEST OF US-ISRAEL MILITARIZED REPRESSION. Protest Israel's deadly raid on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla. Called by Coloradans For Peace, Colorado Springs, Acacia Park, NOON. Pro-Palestinian, Free-Gaza, and all anti-imperial voices welcome. This Memorial Day, remember the USS Liberty!

Japan owes somebody A NEW BOAT!

The Japanese whaling fleet, whose inhumane hunts pretend to serve the Institute for Cetacean Research, have deliberately rammed the high-tech trimaran Ady Gil, formerly the Earthrace, operated by their arch nemesis the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Pseudo-science spokesman Glenn Innwood was quick to declare the footage showed otherwise, saying the accusation "is just not vindicated by the video." Obviously the Japanese need a cover who speaks better English. It's a Freudian slip to seek to be not vindicated. 13533

COP15 protest arrests leave what next

Latest update on Copenhagen demonstrations, from Greenpeace organizer Brinkley Hutchings: “Everyday at the negotiations we have flash mobs, clapping attention-grabbers, and youth crying out to be heard. But the delegates and decision-makers are wearing their earmuffs and blinders, doing everything they can to avoid hearing what we (the youth) have to say. *It has become really apparent that we must escalate.*”
