Howard Zinn disses civil obedience

"Civil disobedience is not our problem. Our problem is civil obedience. Our problem is that people all over the world have obeyed the dictates of leaders and millions have been killed because of this obedience. Our problem is that people are obedient all over the world in the face of poverty, starvation, stupidity, war and cruelty. Our problem is that people are obedient while the jails are full of petty thieves and the grand thieves are running the country. Thatís our problem." --Howard Zinn

A look at ‘peaceful nonviolence’- Is deliberately getting yourself arrested or in other trouble with the law smart?

One of the standby tactics of the Christian liberal types is to deliberately get arrested or otherwise break the law in some form or other. The question is, is this tactic a very smart one or is it a tactic designed in a way that gets non-clergy into legal trouble that actually destroys the individual's ability to continue being an activist for long? After all, having to fight to earn a living with a criminal record is not the easiest way to long term fund one's own personal political activities, and many who have a spurious arrest record due to their 'non-violent' law breaking find it hard to make a living later on. 6200

RNC set to kick off, and kick ass

It has already begun. Scores of police officers and other law enforcers raided private homes and a St. Paul building as a pre-emptive strike against a "criminal enterprise made up of 35 self-described anarchists...intent on committing criminal acts before and during the Republican National Convention."   After what I saw during the DNC this past week, I do not believe a word of it. This is another brazen overreaching of law enforcement, under the directive of the Department of Homeland Oppression.   The police proudly announced that they'd seized a variety of items that they believed were tools of civil disobedience. Like the Constitution, perhaps?   BASTARDS!

Henry David Thoreau’s writings about the military

Most folk only know about Walden Pond and Henry David Thoreau's reflections about the tranquility there. They think of him only as some sort of nature writer. However Thoreau was also an American anarchist whose other writings about society are not quite as well disseminated to college students. Below Henry David Thoreau writes about the American military... 4023

Thank you, sir! May I have another?

This morning I clicked on our new upper-left graphic which imparts info about protesting the state democratic convention. What I discovered was page after page of terms to meet and rules to obey, laid out neatly by the powers-that-be, so that would-be activists can protest the most egregious war and power-hungry administration in our country's history. Happily chirping about meetings with policemen and attorneys, the activists invite us to join them in defining the terms of their oppression. 3127

The Rosa Parks Lone Rider Theory

Urban mythologists would have us believe that Rosa Parks launched the Civil Rights Movement all on her lonesome. Why? Because that’s exactly how it’s not done. And the corporate tale spinners have no interest in educating the public about how societal reform is accomplished.

New Police World Order comes home

JUST IN: The Springs' own inveterate activist Mary Sprunger-Froese was turned away at the Canadian border owing to her political criminal record. She and her husband Peter who is a Canadian citizen, were paying a visit to his family in Saskatchewan on the occasion of his brother's wedding. They borrow a car for this semiannual trip. Peter sometimes makes the journey by bike. This time Canadian border agents made an issue of Mary's extensive civil disobedience arrest record and wouldn't permit her entry. The couple had to turn back and subsequently got caught in the interstate closures due to weather. More after they get home.
