US president spills beans on shitholes where developed world goes to shit.

Citing "shithole countries" of Africa, Trump impolitely referenced where it is that developed nations go to shit. OBVIOUSLY, SHITHOLE is vulgar, derogatory and unhelpful. Used by the US president to describe dark-skinned nations, it's reprehensible and racist. But "shithole" is more than a euphemism. Literally it's a place made awful by being the dumping ground of everyone's excrement. The specific lands which Trump slandered, El Salvador, Honduras, Haiti, and all of Africa, are beautiful, scenic, and bountiful places. How could "shitholes" begin to describe them? Well, in a gold-plated toilet scale... Isn't "shithole" an appropriately condescending description of the purposefully underdeveloped and exploited African and Caribbean lands? The victims of the externalized costs of colonialism, capitalism, and now climate disaster, are what President Trump calls shithole countries. Predictably the international western press is translating shithole in its colloquial sense, not its literal, as shabby, backward, etc. --obviously to spare western readers from embarrassing themselves about their abusive relation to the third world, because there is absolutely no doubt that every culture and every language has a word (which predates plumbing) for where the community goes to shit.

Bill Clinton’s Haitian ‘aid’ campaigning was all a big fraud

How many times did Bill Clinton pose himself as wanting to save the US made impoverished Haiti? I lost count. Well now a study shows it was all a big fraud, with most of the so called US aid to Haiti going to US companies, and only 1% of it to Haitians themselves! Yes, that's right. ...just 1%! And the study also found that the biggest recipient of U.S. aid after the earthquake was Chemonics International, a for-profit international development company based in Washington, D.C., that has more than 4,800 employees. These are US corporate creeps posing as international saviours alongside their co-partners, The Pentagon. See Study Finds Haiti Aid Largely Went to US Groups

Haiti Today

'UN soldiers took over from U.S. Marines after Washington’s coup against the democratically elected president, Jean Bertrand Aristide, in 2004. Since then, Aristide’s party has been effectively banned. Former U.S. president Bill Clinton holds no public office in his own country, but he rules like a viceroy as the UN’s Special Envoy to Haiti. The country has been reduced to a kind of protectorate of the UN – which, for all practical purposes, translates as a colony of the United States.' --Black Agenda Report. There is no doubt that the US government is responsible for the misery that remains today in Haiti. Let's not forget how the US REALLY rules over the rest of the world. Haiti's misery is no exception for what rule by the US Empire brings.

Behind the UN’s messing over Somalia and Haiti, lies the US government

The UN, with the US behind them, just can't stay out of the news completely about how the two together are royally screwing over the people of both Somalia and Haiti. In Haiti, the UN has had continually been involved in the sexual abuse of Haitians and also in bringing them a virulent strain of cholera from Nepal. See Peacekeepers in Haiti face sex attack inquiry, and Two peacekeepers sentenced to a year in prison with hard labour after a trial found them guilty of sexual abuse. Wow! A whole year in jail? The UN soldiers wouldn't have gotten that if they had been stationed as 'piecekeepers' inside Congo! But let the Haitian OCCUPATION go on and on and on! And in Somalia, the UN has been very busy spreading widespread hunger and chaos, too, Haitians. So the US and UN together love other peoples just as well as they are screwing yourselves! An odious affair: The UN in Somalia Makes one proud to be an American doesn't it? And so very proud to be backing up the US corporate government's 'United Nations'! The UN- the Pentagon's clean up squad!

Wikileaks- US State Dept ties Haitian aid to acceptance of wage slavery

When the outgoing Haitian Govt insisted on the whopping huge $5 a DAY minimum wage instead of the three dollars a day being offered by the Corporate-owned U.S.A.I.D., their pet sellouts at State Dept, which has been trying to put a stranglehold on who does or does not do business with Haiti since, like, Forever, endorsed a U.S.A.I.D. report that Haiti wasn't as badly harmed by the earthquake and thus, the Haitian people owe the aid money back. Welcome to the Global Plantation. I wonders, yes I does, how much Gov Scott Walker, Rep Paul Ryan, Gov LePage of Maine, Rick GoodHair of Texas, The Chambers of Commerce, and their Local Anti-worker ToolsTrained Monkeys like Paige, Patchsi, Janis Heuberger, Jeff Crank, Malkin, Tancredo, and the entire City Council, the Mayor and County Commissioners have in their own personal stock portfolios on this? Slavery by low wage and high debt IS their main way of doing business. How about it, anti-Union anti-Working Class PUNKS? Sound off on how morally superior and righteous you are in defense of Slavery.

Sarah Palin mouthing off with more racist crap

So, who is surprised by that? Anyway, she now believes that she has some kind of say over who can or cannot be a guest at the White House. This time in response to a Rapper. The AP (Arrogant Propaganda) News has it that "Obamas defending having a rapper as guest" WTF? There's not a damn thing to defend. It's THEIR freakin' house, until President Obama leaves office. Simple Sarah hasn't got a God-Damn thing to say in the matter. Hell, George Bush entertained Murdering War Criminals like Cheney and Ollie North. Reagan too. Hell, Bush even had HER arrogant racist bitch ass at the White House. And the SUBJECT? A Negro singer. Wait a minute... how is that NOT racist again? Reagan had Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles as guests. People on whom Mrs. Palin depends for politico-religious opinions, like Pat Robertson, are only slightly less Klan-like in their attitude since the 60s... That crap about the Vodun connection to the Haitian earthquake, he used to say that about Ray Charles' music. ALL Rock, Blues, Jazz, Swing... supposedly to lure White Kids into the Negro Lifestyle of drugs, wild sex... and voodoo. It's looking like the RepubliKlan Party IS going to try to win the election with only White votes. Think not? I've heard, not just in my lifetime but actually in the past decade, Rock music described as "Nigger Music". Mrs Palin didn't seem to have any objections to Pat Robertson's Racist Bitch Ass being in the White House as a guest. She really needs to get a tighter grip on reality and Obama needs to refuse to apologize or even answer to her or her Racist Freak supporters.

How to make an entire country disappear

They did it to Haiti... and now, Japan. They're still there, see... my sentence structure is starting to really fall apart but push, push, push on I must. They've been disappeared into the Friday News Cycle Memory Hole. Even though, now, Japan going out has the potential to take out the entire rest of us. Some slower than the rest. Must keep the citizens entertained, don't look at the nasty glowing clouds approaching, kids... if we all pretend they're not real they'll go away. OK, maybe it won't be as grim... but it is really really grim. The unnatural tendency for the Newsies and other people who cheerlead for More Money At Any Cost is to hide things from the rest of us, at least enough that they can cash their stocks and bonds out. Not that it will matter. So, how bout that American Idol? They did that to us during the opening days of the Iraq Invasion and Occupation errr Liberation and Nation Building. The Last Baptist Church of Burleson Texas was holding prayer meetings for some kid named Kelly who can sing, (she won) Special Prayer meetings begging God to intervene and make her into an Idol. Hey, it was the only thing on the news in North Texas for an entire two weeks aside from the Build Up The Lie campaign about the WMDs. Bread and circuses, well, they can't afford the bread so they'll make a circus out of executing the Bread Riot ringleaders. Oh, they're expanding the War on Everybody Darker Than a Paper Bag (it's a Louisiana thing, you would have to have been there) to Libya and to Wisconsin, Indiana and Ohio. The rest of us have to wait our turn, meekly... Or DO WE? By the bye, the Wisconsin folk, mostly white but you know what Stupid Boy Glenn Beck has been doing these past few weeks? Saying that the workers in Wisconsin are being manipulated by The Caliphate. Yes, brethren and sistren and mothren, those insidious darkies are now preying on our workers as well. Because of course working folks are stupid. I mean, we'd just about have to be to be ripped off so long and so regularly over the ages, right? You know what the difference is between a Hiroshima event and a Chernobyl style event? The Chernobyl style events leave buildings standings. See, I was avoiding the Japan story for just this reason. That and I really did harbor an irrational hope that the reactors could be tamed down, locked down, shut down forever and people would walk away from it with a better understanding of just how badly we've screwed up, and a real resolve to give up on the stupid shit. Apparently not.

It’s official. We’re screwed.

I didn't want to post anything about this, not here, guess it's my Irish part of my heritage not wanting to speak the name of the devil. But the reactors in Japan are now officially out of control. What makes it official is that Obama made an official emergency statement that there was no official emergency.   The dude can't do what Bush or Reagan did, look us straight in the eye and tell the most outrageous lies. He had to include a little informercial for the Nuclear Industry at home too, and clean coal. Said that the American nuke plants were given a clean bill of health... by the same Nuclear Regulatory agencies that were gutted for the past three decades by Reagan, Bush the not quite as stupid and The Chimp. Which were the part of the same Nuclear Experts team which declared the Japanese reactors safe.

The dude has cast iron balls… or a corporate sponsor, you decide

If it's the nutsack or the sponsor, it's a big one... Baby Doc Duvalier in Haiti called for national reconciliation, said he only came back to help Haiti How very noble, but a better help would be for him to send back the money he stole, YEARS AGO, taken the entire responsibility for Haiti's national debt instead of causing the debt with the aforementioned taking out all the money.... Failing that, he COULD have sent the money back immediately after the earthquake... and kept his sorry worthless ass in exile. Instead he parks himself in the middle of a disputed election, why? Is he really that much of a narcissist that he believes himself the Savior of Haiti? The current judiciary in Haiti, probably going to change after the election Especially if Baby-Doc gets back in power is charging him with theft and corruption. The murder, torture and other Human Rights charges are addressed in a civil lawsuit. So, what use does a nation bankrupted by him, driven into an insane amount of debt by loans taken out by him, his family and business associates, and the money promptly vanished... a murderer, thief and torture freak whose idea of national unity is for all the citizens of the nation to worship him as a Priest, and do whatever he says or face the wrath of the gods of Vodun and Christianity? This reporter's considered opinion is that he intends to help only himself... to even more International Aid cash now than during the entire cumulative reign of his family.

Baby Doc Duvalier back in Haiti…

No, really, the ex-dictator is back. Maybe he's hoping to steal some more, only this time there's no Haitian money to take. Perhaps from the international aid to Haiti? Negotiate a deal for a U.S. air base perhaps? Of course in the middle of a rigged election where, just like in Afghanistan and Iraq, there are U.S. soldiers at the polls with machine guns to make sure nobody votes for an unapproved candidate. keep order. And what of his private goon-squad "police" Les Tontons Macoutes? (French for eater of fools, a boogieman figure) And the announcement that Wikileaks is about to receive Swiss Bank records, a favorite place for Corporate Dictators, such as the Duvaliers, Cheneys and Bushes to stash stolen assets. And then, courtesy of Austin Texas online underground newspaper The Rag, contributing author Jason Flaherty Lewis Lucke, a 27-year veteran of the U.S. Agency for International Development (US AID) was named U.S. special coordinator for relief and reconstruction after the earthquake. He worked this job for a few months, then immediately moved to the private sector, where he could sell his contacts and connections to the highest bidder. He quickly got a $30,000-a-month (plus bonuses) contract with the Haiti Recovery Group (HRG). HRG had been founded by Ashbritt, Inc., a Florida-based contractor who had received acres of bad press for their post-Katrina contracting. Ashbritt’s partner in HRG is Gilbert Bigio, a wealthy Haitian businessman with close ties to the Israeli military. Bigio made a fortune during the corrupt Duvalier regime, and was a supporter of the right wing coup against Haitian president Aristide. Gee, what an amazing coincidence, "Aid" profiteers in Haiti getting huge contracts, guarded by U.S. Military and.... With ties to the Duvaliers. One of whom just flew home, to pick up the pieces of his own profiteering business. After bankrupting the People of the nation he claims to love, first by stealing all the assets of the country, then leaving the PEOPLE of Haiti under harsh economic sanctions set to be in place until They paid HIS bills, Brought them down to such a level of poverty, while he and his piglets were living the high-life in France, that a relatively minor earthquake had and still has the potential to destroy them completely. What a true Patriot this fellow must be!

How come Pottery Barn rules don’t apply to Haiti?

When Tony posted nearly three years ago (!) about how shocking conditions in Haiti had become, it was a magnet for people saying the starving kids pictures (from Medicins sans frontiers, internationally respected medical aid agency, just not so much here in America) were recycled pictures from Ethiopia 3, 2 and one decade ago. Then when that was refuted, and before they raised that Stupid Response again, the people of Haiti were blamed for their own misfortunes. As though their LEADERS had actually been empowered by popular vote instead of installed, against the expressed will of the People, by and for the profit of American Corporate Hegemony. Alternating with French Hegemony until the AmeriCorp bought out the French. We broke it, we supposedly bought it, right? That's the one of the irRationale for staying in Iraq and Afghanistan. (rationale is both plural and single, I checked, you didn't, kiss off) Of course, it's not the American Corporations who are Paying the bills "we" ran up by breaking all the pottery, although they seem to be getting quite a lot of public funding to manipulate the Public Army and the Public intelligence community and the public "rebuilding" campaign, which mostly consists of taking very expensive videos and photographs of Other People moving the shards around. Much the same way they're paid to watch and take pictures while other people bury the Dead "shards" in Haiti. Through public funding for their private "efforts". Some have seen fit to criticize my frequent use of Capitalization and italics and bold type and ComBinatiOns Of tHem but some people need a little help finding juicy nuggets amidst the kibble. Both are Nourishing Mind Food but the juicy bits are more fun. Sometimes. Some of the people have difficulty seeing, which is a condition with which I can easily relate. Others are just kind of inured to reading and hearing Bullshit from the likes of Glenn Beck and need a little help finding emphasis in NORMAL thoughts. It's not that Glenn Beck is mentally defective, it's what he's paid to say, in the Corporate anticipation of the Audience being mentally defective. In a way, though, the situation in Ethiopia and Haiti is the same case, revisited. "Conservative" (their own code word for Racist Right Wing Extremists) Pundits insist that black people are incapable of governing themselves so it's up to the Great White Father in Washington to guide and assist and let's face it, outright Rule Over the poor little darkie savages. But Ethiopia has for several occasions been the richest nation on earth and in cumulative time they managed to do it for longer than the Americas have actually experienced European Rule. Intermittently because the times Ethiopia has been devastatingly poor have been periods of colonial rule. Like the Romans exacting tribute from them, and in the past couple of centuries European and European-American Corporate Rule turning Their nation into Our plantation. Same with Haiti. When the U.S. went to war with Hawaii and deposed their "tyrannical"

Who decided Ghurkas make good peacekeepers?

So the Haitian cholera outbreak is being investigated by the U.N. and the suspect so far is a Nepalese "peacekeeping" base with sewage issues, in a blunt and literal sense. This is the device they're most famous for perfecting and using. It's a machete, really, with the bent-forward blade, which can cut through bamboo, Mother Nature's own Structural Tubing. Modify the use without modifying the tool and you have an efficient slash knife that can take off a human head with one slash. No mean feat there. They've a reputation for fierceness in battle. Very warlike when they feel the need and really PEACE anything doesn't leap to mind when thinking about these dudes. But, they're part of the U.N. mission. Which is only a side issue, the U.N. itself is supposedly in charge of facility maintenance and that would include the plumbing. So the shit gets dumped, really, back into the U.N.s front parlor. They own the shit. Meanwhile, back at Southeast Asia, there was yet another volcanic eruption and tsunami. There's of course no funds for fixing the massive human needs there simply because A Certain Unnameable Society is simultaneously plundering and destroying the resources of the entire world including any funding for humanitarian needs. Too busy meeting the InHumanitarian Needs, I suppose. Oh, and the Koalition of the Killing forces employ Ghurkas to do that too.

Not yet a hurricane, probably won’t be, but Alex…

Tropical Depression Alex. If it stays out over the water it'll become a Tropical Storm, which for the purposes of the Oil S(l)ick is a moot reference. It might as well be a hurricane. And we're still in the "A"s. Haiti meanwhile has been pushed off the news. Well, they were pushed off long ago, by the Tiger Woods story among others.

Respect…

Why do the same cops and their tame Social Workers who Demand, under threat of punishment, that we automatically and unconditionally "respect" THEM, Refuse to unconditionally and automatically respect US? Saying that we have to comply and conform to THEIR arbitrary orders, dress and appearance code, even the language we speak among ourselves? Or in the case of the Hotel Owner in Taos, and the cases of Muhammad Ali and Ojore Lutalo, that we take and accept the "White" names, either the ones we were given when we were born into the Slave System, or like in Taos, where the people were supposed to abandon the culture in which they were raised in order to please their White Anglo Saxon Master? Haiti, where they're supposed to abandon their cultural identity, the one the Slave Owners and their successive generations of Apologists have constantly bitched whined and snivelled about, saying the French or other EuroCentric "Cultures" are so far superior to that of the Negroes, who were after all slaves. And simply EVERYBODY knows, Dah-link, that the poor and especially the slaves bring their own poverty upon them by their own innate inferiority. The Cops and their Social Worker comrades have a saying "Respect has to be EARNED" but only in one direction, they obviously don't have any sense of a Reciprocal Duty to "earn" the respect of the Peasants and Commoners over whom they rule. Then they wonder why somebody would put a nine-millimeter slug through the front of heads, right between their piggy little eyes, while they're harassing or assaulting the person or handcuffing him so they can harass and assault him constantly, at their leisure, whenever they damn well feel like it while he's their prisoner. Like Jensen and Jordan found out.

G7 vow to cancel Haiti Debt…

30 years too late. Mighty white of them. Swiss courts delayed announcing their decision, hours before the Earthquake, to reinstate the money stolen from Haiti by the Dvalier family, with the help of the CIA and Pentagon, and Swiss banks along with other multinational banking Corporations, to the Duvaliers. Not to Haiti. One Swiss official said that it's customary to wait several weeks before announcing court decisions. My take on it is that G7 and Credite Suisse and the IMF and World Bank would have been perfectly content keeping Haiti twisting in the wind forever or until the Haitian People collectively sold themselves back into odious hateful humiliating Slavery with the condition that they every morning en-masse they would have to issue a sincere apology for ever declaring themselves to be a free people.

CS Indy turns to cruel IFES deceiver to voice cautionary best hope for Haiti

When it came to coverage of the Haiti earthquake disaster, the CS Indy left it to their Your Turn column, and by "your" they meant YOUR MASSAH. What caught my eye was the headline "Time for a new Haiti" accompanied by the excerpt blurb "Aristide's return would be a disaster," written by a pasty diplomat who had a personal hand in Haiti's ongoing misery. Here is our allegedly progressive newsweekly giving the podium to IFES criminal Richard Soudriette instead of bundling him off to Port Au Prince for a well deserved drubbing. Mr. Soudriette presided over the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) from 1988 to 2007, the period which saw two US coups in Haiti, where twice the democratically elected Bertrand Aristide was removed from office by our hands. Who better to have blown the whistle on the US interference than someone observing, even advising and conducting, the elections? That's ignoring of course that the IFES is actually a private agency which does the CIA's work, created in the 80s when Congress moved to limit the CIA's official role destabilizing democracies. Through the IFES, through the National Endowment for Democracy, the CIA continues its intelligence wars subverting foreign governments who threaten America's corporate rule. If you want to believe that enterprises like IFES might be serving some good, consider this: if democratic ideals were really being advanced, the US State Department would be proud to do the work. These aren't subcontracted jobs that wouldn't benefit from official diplomatic networks. The IFES and ilk are as disreputable cretins as ever wore stuffed shirts, designed to separate people from legitimate representation. And don't think all the pitchfork bearing victims of its election racketeering are overseas. The IFES has been an adversary of the American people as Americans have tried to rescue their elections from Diebold and the stolen votes of 2000, 2002, 2004 and 2006. When will traitorous, undemocratic Neocons like Richard Soudriette meet the wrath they have so richly courted? The Haitians are suffering, there are countless stories of Americans helping in the effort, instead the Indy gives people of Haiti more of the same malignant spin. How did Soudriette explain his expertise on Aristide? He didn't: "Unfortunately Aristide is hinting at a comeback despite his two failed terms. Aristide's return to Haitian politics would be a disaster for the country. His many political allies in the U.S. and abroad would best serve Haiti's interests by encouraging Aristide to permanently step aside from politics." Rather, Soudriette says, we need to back efforts to amend Haiti's constitution to allow America's man Preval serve additional terms. Oh, and give more responsibility to USAID, another CIA arm. Why is Soudriette spinning this message to Colorado Springs I wonder? It's not enough that Soudriette lent his villainy to Haiti's disastrous last decades, now two years removed from the job, on the occasion of its most recent natural calamity, Soudriette resurfaces to damn the Haitian people with the same lies, lest they ever catch a break. That's what

Is Haiti America’s Gaza?

As the US military descends to throttle Gaza's -excuse me- Haiti's points of entry, as it prepares detention facilities at Guantanamo to intercept and repatriate the expected rush of Haitian refugees, as the US protects its business interests in the Dominican Republic and Haiti which profit from the kept-poor labor market of captive Haiti, there are fewer differences than parallels. One difference, Israeli medics are willing to come help the injured of Haiti. How did they get in, when every other charity has been forced to queue for the opportunity? Other national and private efforts had to wait behind US military convoys bringing soldiers before food, reinforced borders before help. By the time most medical care was allowed to reach the earthquake victims, surgeons were left with only the option of amputation. I'm curious how a captive labor population of amputees is supposed to benefit their Western overseers. It minimizes the acute circumstances in Gaza to paint Haiti as a concentration camp with settlers waiting outside the fence for the inmates to exterminate themselves. I'm not aware that our white religious zealots are after anything but Haitian children, their souls or supplicant bodies. But the same prison population control strategies apply. When the Haitians elect populist leaders, we fund goon squads to assassinate them, or we kidnap them into exile. Where is that different? There is a Haitian diaspora as there is for the Palestinians. There is our exploitation of their resources and their labor. How fitting that America's closest cohort sent medics in for the photo op, and quickly aborted their work before the same darker-skinned unchosen got wise.

Closing Gitmo not opening it wide

Not only is the infamous Guantanamo prison camp NOT CLOSING, its criminal record grows, and now the illegal facility is being expanded to lasso Haitian migrants escaping the devastation of Haiti's earthquake. Will they be tortured as well? The way Obama is moving on civil rights, we may never know. We have learned that three of the prison's suicides, the mysterious coordinated attack of suicide-suiciders for which US military spokesmen accused the detainees of asymmetric warfare, were actually deaths at the hands of torturers. Though officials claimed to have discovered the bodies in their cells, camp guards have revealed that the prisoners were actually taken from the interrogation rooms, having suffocated from water-boarding. Coroners trying to establish the causes of death were hampered by the fact that Gitmo physicians had surgically removed key telltale body parts in the interest of national security. Diverting attention from the murder story are preparations to expand Guantanamo to greet an anticipated wave of Haitian migrant refugees escaping the earthquake devastation. Just part of the militarization of aid giving. A processing center is being readied at Guantanamo where Haitians can be returned to Haiti nearly as soon as they are intercepted at sea. Ever gracious, the US reveals that some Haitians will be considered for entry to the US. Temporary work permits will be granted to some Haitians, but only those who can show that they were in the US at the time of the January 12 earthquake.

Let them eat army boots!

After the airport in Haiti was passed into US control, the Guardian newspaper is reporting controllers are diverting aid flights in favor of US Army landings. International aid efforts are being sent to the Dominican Republic while the US concentrates on getting boots on the ground. Meanwhile the US Navy has positioned an aircraft carrier to serve as a "floating airport" for flights to where? I'd like to get a picture of that, gunboat diplomacy in Port Au Prince, a moated Green Zone, towering over the rabid masses ashore. Will American soldiers be taunting the Haitians "Boukies" still, or resort to the term from Somalia everyone learned from Black Hawk Down: they called them "Skinnies."

Labadee: Royal Caribbean’s Neo Haiti

Former President Bill Clinton is heading to Haiti, again. As UN special envoy to Haiti, he paid a visit last year as a guest of the Royal Caribbean cruise ship line to promote their tourist facility at La'Badie. Said CEO Adam Goldstein: "Labadee is just a great example of the way that things can work in a very positive way in this country." Are those new ways or old? The secured compound, laying under the protection of the old French colonial capitol, greets 7,000 cruise passengers a week, even this week, many of whom don't know they're in "Haiti," on an old slave plantation, or what may have been the crucible of real Islamic rebel voodoo! I didn't know about the private resort of Labadee, but my attention was drawn in December to the announcement of the launch of The Oasis of the Seas, the largest cruise ship ever devised. It was leaving the shipyards of Finland, having to pass under a Danish suspension bridge at low tide, so titanic was she. I took note because the headline announced her maiden destination to be Haiti, an odd place I thought, to be ostentatious. The spotlight which the recent earthquake has brought on the poverty in Haiti had me wondering if all seventeen decks of the Oasis of the Seas were gawking at the suffering masses awaiting aid in Port-au-Prince. Not a chance. The Oasis, and Royal Caribbean's fleet of floating carbon boots harbor at a secluded oasis which the cruise line rents from Haiti. Its income represents the largest portion of Haiti's tourism revenue. If you thought President Obama's offer of $100 Million was stingy, you can calculate Royal Caribbean's avarice on one hand. The tragic earthquake hasn't interrupted the cruises. It this tragedy has an upside, it's that some vacationers are expressing less facility stuffing down a burger knowing most Haitians await relief. Haiti receives $6 for each tourist who disembarks to zip-line, buy trinkets from licensed vendors, and sun on Christoper Columbus Beach. They're told it was his old stomping ground --which actually can be said of Hispaniola's entire northern coastline. Likewise the same is true about the slave plantations which, from the port of Cap Francois, provided 40% of Europe's sugar and 60% of its coffee. Today Haiti is renowned as the poorest land in the Western Hemisphere. The verdant lands of La Partie Du Nord --of Les Grand Blancs-- are separated from the Haitian population by a mountainous Massif, and in the case of Labadee, with barbed wire. Royal Caribbean boasts that its operations are critical to the Haitian economy. It employs hundreds, but contrast that with what the coast could provide if it wasn't privatized. The resort draws from a cheap labor pool of an unlimited mass of Haitians who are kept with no other options but to hope they can replace the couple hundred employees confined to the cruise line compound. And yes, the cruise itineraries avoid mention of Haiti, attributing Labadee as a "private island" of

Haiti public menace is old stereotype

Once again NMT scoops the corporate media desperate for images of menacing Haitians on the verge of violence. These 1793 engravings aimed to anger the French public against the savagery of the Haitians rising against their masters in then Colonial French St. Domingue. A detail from The Pillage of Cap François, 1793, from Brown University Archives. Another detail of the murder of French colonists. These are extracts from a tableau which depicts the eleven days of mayhem before the arrival of military reinforcements. These inflammatory scenes show whites being victimized by grotesque pig-nosed blacks, looking absurd in stolen clothing, gorging themselves with the food and drink of their masters. The same event, this is titled the Burning of Cap Français.

Rush is right. Make him pay for Haiti.

Reading 538's excellent qualified defense of Pat Robertson's accusation that Haiti really had made a pact with the devil, I am prompted to weigh in behind Rush Limbaugh's hypocritical rant that the American public has already paid enough for Haiti's relief, "it's called the US Income Tax." Well it's true. It is the role of government to see after the suffering among us. Of course you'd think conservatives like Limbaugh wouldn't highlight that role while images of disaster haunt us, because they're the ones behind depleting the aid coffers. Bush's tax cuts for the rich alone could have relieved Haiti, Katrina and every Tsunami in between without costing tearful American TV viewers one extra dime of credit card debt. The Haitian rebels made this prayer to their god in 1791. European slave owners might conclude an insurgent god would be their devil. This prayer was recited by rebellion priestess Boukman at the Bois Caiman (Bwa Kayiman). French speakers can read it in Creole. The god who created the earth; who created the sun that gives us light. The god who holds up the ocean; who makes the thunder roar. Our God who has ears to hear. You who are hidden in the clouds; who watch us from where you are. You see all that the white has made us suffer. The white man’s god asks him to commit crimes. But the god within us wants to do good. Our god, who is so good, so just, He orders us to revenge our wrongs. It’s He who will direct our arms and bring us the victory. It’s He who will assist us. We all should throw away the image of the white men’s god who is so pitiless. Listen to the voice for liberty that speaks in all our hearts. The Toussaint Louverture Project is an online documentation of our western hemisphere's only successful slave uprising. Just as the USA still refuses to let Cuba free its people from our tyranny after 40 years, so did the Western powers fight to keep Haiti from success, lest their free slaves inspire ours.

Dubya goes to Haiti. Book him Danno!

The ultra-right wing Heritage Foundation made the suggestion yesterday, and it turned out President Obama liked it. George what-me-Worry Bush will co-chair the Haiti relief committee! The New Orleans Katrina aid travesty qualified him to do what? Play guitar and go fishing? Instead of slapping the pathological miscreant in a set of cuffs, our commander in chief will no doubt soon be saying "Good Job Dubya" --if the Heritage Foundation dictates.

Good news for Haiti

On the bright side of Haiti's catastrophic earthquake, American puppet René Préval has been cut down a few notches, a whole couple stories actually. Here's the presidential palace before January 12 and after. The pretender Preval has been Our Man in Port-au-Prince subsequent to the US-arranged a coup in 2004 to depose the democratically elected Jean-Bertrand Aristide (for the second time). The popular Aristide was a threat to exploitation interests. While Americans rally to provide relief to the Haitians, let's not be too incredulous about the state of their poverty. Here's A.N.S.W.E.R.'s recent statement to highlight this teaching moment: All of us are joining in the outpouring of solidarity from people all over the hemisphere and world who are sending humanitarian aid and assistance to the people of Haiti. At such a moment, it is also important to put this catastrophe into a political and social context. Without this context, it is impossible to understand both the monumental problems facing Haiti and, most importantly, the solutions that can allow Haiti to survive and thrive. Hillary Clinton said today, "It is biblical, the tragedy that continues to daunt Haiti and the Haitian people."
