A slum lord as front runner

Some of the issues of today are so far into the wrong, like Trump, it's just staggering. Like, where do you start on a mess like that? The dude reiterated his boast of ripping off "screwing" Gaddafi, and still calling for the death penalty for the Central Park teenagers who spent more than a decade in prison for shit they did not do. The lack of response from the republicans is frightening. Giuliani should have prosecuted Trump for the hundreds or thousands of New York State tenant relations laws and especially the one about Gaddafi. 46497

Empire says behave or the next Bradley Manning or Hugo Chavez will be you

Indefinite detention, solitary confinement, torture, and assassination are tools America does not hesitate to use to enforce its feudal corporate agenda. That the US didn't dispatch Bolivarian hero Hugo Chavez like they did Yasser Arafat is belied by their protestation that such accusations would be far fetched. Wikileaks has already documented ceaseless US plots to eradicate Chavez, second only perhaps to their attempts on the life of Fidel Castro, whose last years bear a resemblance to what befell Chavez. It's a testament to the magnanimity of both leaders that they didn't immediately finger US dirty deeds. Because proved or not, it's dispiriting and serves empire's purpose that dissenters should take heed: you can spend the foreseeable future tortured behind bars, gunned down by a mob, under house arrest in London, incinerated via drone or LAPD's "burner", or tagged with carcinogens. The long arm of Western injustice gets their man.

Opposition forces kill US Ambassador Chris Stevens, America In Libya’s No. 1

Maybe it could have happened to a more deserving operative, but that's splitting hairs. Obviously we can't call the late ambassador Chris Stevens the "mastermind" of the US covert destabilization of Libya. However, he was Our Man in Benghazi, essentially the NO. 1 in charge of the state-terrorist cell poised to exploit the rolling "Arab Spring" for the forces of capitalist neo-democracy, let's call it AMERICA IN LIBYA. Stevens organized and armed the US-sponsored rebels who exploited the pan-Arab protests to foment unrest, then civil war, then NATO intervention, against the West's nemesis Muammar Gaddafi. Remember how Gaddafi was unceremoniously deposed? Captured, tormented, then shot most likely by a CIA-contracted assassin? Where was the humanitarian outcry against that sanctioned barbarity?   How undignified of Westerners to decry the killing of Ambassador Stevens, legally, in the field of battle, by opposition fighters in Libya, on this rare occasion when they got their man. Actually four: the ambassador, a military attache, and two Americans whose identities the USG won't reveal, I'm thinking mercenaries. The USG is speculating that the rocket attack was planned, and by none other than al-Qaeda, because it's unlikely the Libyans who stormed the US consulate in Benghazi brought impromptu grenade

Colonel Gaddafi meets his killer-to-be. Would you have shaken that hand? I’m talking about Obama’s.

Can you match this for a haunting image? There's Colonel Gaddafi and President Obama, two years ago. I suppose the Tea Party would pretend they were pals. Why wouldn't they be, both are misunderstood weirdos, both were espoused rescuers of their respective peoples. Where similarities end, the rivalry is epic. One the protector of Africa and the unaligned world, the other its despoiler. One perhaps rendered timid with age, bombed into submission, his own daughter killed by an extrajudicial US assassination attempt, the other his future killer. I look at this image and reflect on the author of the Little Green Book, ideology for the Libyan renaissance, whose recent pitiless murder was videotaped and televised from all angles. Others might look more soberly at President Barack Obama, skilled comfort giver, who we've come to see shows no reticence for killing thousands sight unseen, but here he's looking his mark straight in the face. What's Obama saying with that handshake? I'm not sure Obama's eye contact is going to have the effect it used to.

Execution of anti-Western al-Gaddafi suggests he wasn’t strongman enough

I know very little about the dark side of Colonel Gaddafi. I've never seen him outside the filter of Western media. For all I know he emptied baby incubators, hid WMDs and ran rape camps. He wasn't responsible for Lockerbie, the CIA knows that much. The deposed leader's execution yesterday was nothing to celebrate. It was sad, brutal and shrouded in mystery. Hugo Chavez hailed Gaddafi as a fallen hero, and I've never had occasion to disagree with Chavez. Nor have I ever taken issue with George Galloway and he hated Gaddafi. Probably the aging revolutionary was both heroic and corrupt, eccentric and lunatic. Gaddafi was the most powerful protector of Africa, and the only leader to have apologized for Arab role in African slave trade. Naturally he had to be booted from the club. 28700

With Gaddafi’s TV villain star rising, bin Laden should have seen this coming

I'm sure they would rather have pulled Osama bin Laden from a hole for a 2012 October Surprise, but the US media narrative makers must have figured out that Mumbledore Gaddafi is not proving telegenic enough to upstage the king of Islamic villainy. Now US airstrikes are killing the Libyan dictator's children and grandchildren, we can't let a bogeyman win audience sympathy.   The good news for Pakistanis and Afghans is that US drones now have no reason to stalk their skies and Guantanamo can now release the foot-soldiers who've lost their leader. If "justice has been done" and the perpetrator of 9-11 has been neutralized, then it's over, isn't it? No apparently. Now we're reminded al-Qaeda is much bigger than OBL, and yet we've executed him as if he bore responsibility, AND we're told that the act may prompt retaliatory violence. So it's solved what then? Targeted assassination brings no one to justice, it asserts vengeance and perpetuates the cycle. Which of course was OBL's role all along. 24054

Colo. College guest Donald Gregg: the man who hired the man who killed Che

He administered OPERATION PHOENIX during the Vietnam War, the CIA counterinsurgency operation which sought to pacify Vietnam with the targeted assassination of thousands of potential insurgents. For Vice President George H. W. Bush's office, he coordinated the funding of the illegal US covert war against Central America, aka, the IRAN-CONTRA scandal. Yes, he supervised both Felix Rodriguez and Luis Posada, each of CIA-state-sponsored-terrorism fame. But Colorado College introduced Donald P. Gregg only as former national security adviser and ambassador to Korea. And CC gave Gregg an honorary degree -- with not a peep from the know-nothings they laud as their exemplary students. 23604

The US-UN no-fly no-flee free-fire zone

Forbidding flight is not a pun, but a cruel misnomer --a war crime too by the way-- international law forbids shooting a fleeing adversary. Or does aerial flight apply to ground forces and naval vessels? So far enforcement of the Libyan No-Fly Zone extends to flight by tanks, ships, and Command & Control Centers, which may yet be taken to include the C&CC lobes of a dictatorial brain resisting regime change, even if that's not the UN objective. The first night air-strike on Col. Al-Qaddafi's home reminded me more of the opening act of Schock N' Awe Baghdad, than what most expect of a UN peacekeepers' NFZ. Iraq post Kuwait 1991? Bosnia less Herzegovina 1995? Please! New War Czar Obama trumpeted this declaration of a bombing war on Libya with the same speech Bush used to announce the 2003 Christian Jihad against Saddam Hussein (ongoing). The upside of getting to see a No-Fly Zone for what it is, a military bombing spree in the guise of a UN mission, is for all those humanitarian intervention "activists" who cried for a NFZ in Sudan and Somalia. But those assholes knew what it was obviously because they still never call for one

Yahoo empire blinks on Libya!

Saddling up, out of the shadows of covert participation in the Libyan rebellion against bogeyman Gaddafi might be the US misstep which the Arab movement has been looking for. It's not enough that Barack Obama's active suppression of public uprisings in Bahrain and Yemen unmasked his administration as anti-Democratic, now he's deploying the brute force already visited on Iraq. Bombs against Gaddafi will soon enough yield innocent civilian deaths and America's War on Islam not only expands in North Africa, it pits itself against the entire pan-Arab revolution. The Qatar-based Al Jazeera Network may have its own motives for beating the drums of war against the loose cannon madman Gaddafi, while sparing the House of Saud similar vilification, but AJ has succeeded in goading the Western powers to put their weapons where their oil is, effectively throwing fuel on a fire that was stalling against the firewall of the dictator's repressive might. Forget Ben Ali, Mubarak and Gaddafi, the adversary to unite Arabia will be the USA. And while conventional wisdom for Western governance is to announce unpopular policy during the black hole Friday news cycle, our arrogance shows itself tone-deaf to Islam. We might have figured it out
