I know, it’s supposed to be unpatriotic to remind the U.S. Military of how many times they’ve had their Pasty White Collective Arse handed to them by barefoot dark-skinned savages… Such as the first two foreign engagements, one against the “Barbary Pirates” of Libya, the other against the Muskogeean nations of what’s now the American Southeast, particularly the Seminole Wars. And always, like a Collective Narcissistic Drama Queen, whenever the U.S. lost it was somebody else’s fault. Either that or they portrayed the battles as Great Victories… if they didn’t get too badly beaten.
Pancho Villa, born Jose Doroteo Arango… Pershing and the full might of the U.S. Army invade Mexico determined to “give him a proper thrashing” AND LOST. So a few years later, in 1923, they paid an assassin to take him out. Kind of a “Lo-tech” predator drone.
North Korea and China in the early 50s. “we begged them to errr… Forced them to sign a peace treaty…”
Since from the point of view of America, who never declared war, it wasn’t a war that ever officially started so they’re not too upset that it’s never officially ended. North Africa in 1957. The “Commie Terrorists” who were supposedly routed, now a part of the Algerian and Moroccan governments. VietNam, need I say more? Why, yes, I really do. Expended more ammunition (and money) than the American war budget for WW2, against a people who didn’t have an air force, didn’t have an organized army or navy and lived in bamboo huts.
Of course the ferocity and courage of the VietMinh militia couldn’t have ANYTHING to do with the loss. No, Sir! it had to be them damned Hippie dissenters, yep, that’s what it was. Even though by the time Woodstock Nation came to be, the Pentagon had escalated and escalated for almost a decade. Somalia. eh.
In between the end of World War 2 and now, there’s not been a single day wherein American soldiers haven’t been in combat somewhere. Since December the 8th 1941 the United States Senate has never declared a war, and the U.S. has never actually won any war. The peasant rebellions (Damn those Insolent Peasants! Daring to believe that they’re actually as Good as U.S.!) that were “successfully” put down, doesn’t seem so successful, they keep coming back at “our” puppet governments in virtually the entire spanish and portuguese speaking portion of America. The Bay of Pigs, and Grenada, Grenada is once more governed by a democratically elected Marxist coalition, Cuba, I believe the presidents name is Castro, yes? After 50 years…
So, G.I. Joe and G.I. Josephine, don’t feel to bad, dudes, America has a long and proud history of losing.
