A flag is for one purpose, to allow your comrades to know where you are and not fire on your position. That’s why they came into existence. Some flags are designated as “all weather”. If you’re in a forward post and need your flag to identify your position, day and night and in all weather, that’s what you use. Ships at Sea don’t even strike their colors when they make port. In Maritime Law you’re required to fly a flag designating which nation holds the registration of the ship.
I know it’s impossible to get further from a shore or other national boundary in America than Colorado Springs. Actually Salinas Kansas. If somebody has made it all the way to Colorado Springs and still doesn’t realize he’s in the U.S. is too stupid to educate, and no amount of flag waving is going to do him any good.
