Largely a statistical artifact. Virginia has independent cities as well as counties that are treated as counties for statistical purposes.
The result is that small homogeneous areas (i.e. rich neighborhoods) get counted as whole counties in Virginia. In other states, rich neighborhoods get diluted by surrounding areas in county level statistics. Other places have neighborhoods just as rich but they don’t show up in county level statistics. Hence, you get more Virginia numbers at the extremes than in other states.

True. Like the Park Cities in Dallas. Not officially a part of Dallas the city, separate municipalities, Forest Park and University Park. Two of the highest concentrations of wealth in the world.
Then again, a lot of the “municipal entities” near Washington are military reservations. Aberdeen Proving Grounds, the Pentagon… which would have a really high ratio of people to money if one only counts the military pay. But then there’s contractors. Aberdeen plays host to a boatload of civilian contractors, Raytheon for instance. THAT’S where the money is.
Not much money to be made while in uniform, unless you’re very good at taking bribes. The highest rank and pay in the military possible is 17785.80 per month. $200k a year approximately. The lowest pay grade gets less than a tenth of that.
BUT… there’s retired Majors working as consultants for Boeing, Raytheon, Bell, IBM… just to start… who make that and more.
And then there’s the 5% rule. The ones who are in the top 5% income bracket and control even at Republican estimates upper 80s percentage of the wealth.
Career politicians don’t make that kind of wealth From Their Congressional or Judicial or Executive Salaries.
It’s kind of like the character Monty Brewster from the “Brewster’s Millions” movie, one of the lines was “The Mayor (of New York City) is paying (millions) of dollars campaigning for a job that pays (a couple hundred thousand) dollars a year. Why? Because he knows he can steal it back, with Interest.
Not saying every government elected official is crooked, but that much access to bribe money would tend to draw the “best and brightest” of the Thief Industry.
Why spend most of your adult life in prison to make a couple hundred grand robbing banks when you can make a couple hundred million robbing America with a missile shield that may or may not work? Selling machines to slaughter Human Beings. Even if they do work, they rob America of any taste of Democracy or Freedom that we have. And they rob us of our national soul and conscience.
Already we have whole news networks filled with people who make more apiece annually than the top ten officers of the military, sending people who make slightly above minimum wage to murder people who make a dollar a day.
And the Fat Smug Smirking Bastards say that it’s moral to do this. Rush, Bill-o, Glenn, Sean, Michelle, so-called “marine” Ollie North. A former governor and former VP candiidate who is spending her time campaigning over Fox News, for free, (but it’s not a Campaign Contribution) and getting paid to campaign for herself. That’s the kind of Lost Souls who are leading America, at least they SAY they’re the real leaders of America.
