I don’t know if he’s directly a member of The Klan, what would surprise me on that count is that he would have the necessary taste for personal violence they require. Where he has the status and reputation of being a ChickenHawk like Bush.
That the Republican party is the “drug of choice” for Klan members is hardly a secret. The ones who left the Democratic Party en masse first when Truman signed the order de-segregating the Army and those who were still not convinced that overt racism was becoming Tabu in the DP.

Strangely, the Republican Party, which mumbled a harsh tsk-tsk’ing to the Klan on some occasions, welcomed into their party a huge group of former Dixiecrats whose reason for leaving was that Blacks were recognized as actual people with actual rights.
