Could Marshal Petain have actually been Resistance?

I mean, I know he and DeGaulle had serious differences, but DeGaulle wasn’t exactly a liberal or progressive, wouldn’t fit in with hippies, you know? Fascists like Hitler, Mussolini, Quisling, their counterparts in Spain, Greece and Portugal, there were plenty of them, they don’t like each other. The proverb ‘the enemy of my enemy must be my friend” really doesn’t hold up under scrutiny. By the way, this is something that would sound neat-o if read After A Night With no Sleep. But I’ll continue. Dunkirk is in the movie theater downtown now.  But back to Petain. What if his “surrender” was a sham? For one thing, the French army etc didn’t have to  spend the war in a POW camp. or surrender their arms. So maybe it’s not so much capitulation as cold-blooded opportunism. Dude was a vicious fascist prick, like trump only smarter, and actually introduced himself as a fascist. I get a severe case of the red-ass when really stupid people talk smack about the french being serial surrender-monkeys. They ran England for 700 years approximately, And Austria, which has a rep for being really belligerent. English wasn’t the court and private language for the aristocracy until George the 4th. Prior to the French taking over their island the Saxons (Germans) for 500 approximate years ran the place. The current Queen was only a couple of reigns away from having the surname Saxe-Goetheburg, because the English king Edward the however-the-hell his number changed it in anticipation of having a war with Germany, and needed an English connection for his family so people wouldn’t lynch him. It seems the English royalty at least were the real surrender-monkeys.    And the dumbshits who keep up the insults against the French are angry because the French aren’t (usually) capitulating to ‘our’ Fascist government, and they don’t want to seem childish and petulant about it. Of course, they do anyway, they can’t overcome their reputation as crybabies.
