COLORADO SPRINGS- When our cash-wrung city decided to cut trash removal for municipal parks –if also to make it harder on the homeless camps– People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) famously stepped in with an offer to subsidize the service if we agreed to use their trash cans.
Bruised by national news accounts of our shuttered services and having to extinguish 1/3 of our traffic lights, Mayor Rivera accepted PETA’s offer.
Until he saw their message. Which element was it that was too risqué for conservative Hooter Springs: the lettuce-clad bikini girl? The call to go vegan? Or the trashing of the Tea Partier’s staple for what’s for dinner?
Maybe they were hoping for a famous and very wealthy local computer chipset manufacturer to step up… but their infamous slogan “Intel inside” might not be what the company wants to see on a trash can.
Why haven’t the Anti-Vegan forces stepped up with a counter offer? A McDonalds or KFC or Carl’s Jr. trash can-paign would be too honest an assessment, perhaps?
Heck, if they’re worried about the scantily clad lady, which is What They Say They’re Worried About… they need to keep the kids away from WalMart… not just the Ladies Lingerie section but the people shopping there.
Then there’s the family in Pennsylvania who made a Snow Statue of the “Venus de Milo” and their city made them put clothes on the statue.
In other Taliban-like “religious” activity, yesterday they celebrated the Occupation Forces lynching a Middle Eastern religious leader in East Jerusalem. All charges against the Soldiers and Police involved were dropped.
Of course, if that woman on the trashcan were to come to life then mayor rivera wouldn’t know what to do with her.
