Tennessee Firefighters watch house burn down

This is what we can expect when Mayor Lyin' Hell Rivera and his cronies privatize city services like the thieving bitches are going to tell us at next Monday's budget announcement. One of the fire-non-fighters said that it's an example of "robust Christianity, rather than that sappy effeminate version of Christianity where people help each other". Well, you KNOW that got my blood pumping. First off, the guy came off as being really insecure about his own masculinity. And rather than coming out of his closet, he tries to "drag" Jesus in with him. Let's take it a notch further. Why not have the police be on a for-pay basis? Anybody who can't afford police protection, too bad so sad. Make it even better, have fully privatized "police" auxiliary groups like the Minutemen patrol, and people who DON'T pay up, well, they must have something to hide, so let's just drag them down to the court, which of course will be a pay-for-play proposition too, can't afford an attorney? Too bad, you should have planned ahead and been born rich. 20172

Contaminants in the runoff water

Seems they predate the Homeless Camping debate by at least a decade. One of the problems that was present when the City and County of Pueblo sued Colorado Springs for fouling their water, e-coli. Seems Colorado Springs and Springs Utilities reached a plea-bargain mitigating the judgment against the Springs by making necessary repairs to the sewage system. This includes that bad ol' StormWater that the right wingsters keep whining about. The wastewater treatment facilities were overwhelmed on several levels, not the least of which were the BlowHard Extremists like Douglas Bruce not wanting to pay their bills. Have their cake, eat it too, and then have somebody else pay for the cake. 20155

September, Fiscal Year, No Billion Dollars falling from the sky.

Budget time cometh. Three years ago, when Real Estate started to crap all over the economy, Rivera, our mayor for those who don't speak Coloradospringsish... said that what the city needed was for a Billion Dollars to fall from the sky. That $42 Million he later turned down, because it was earmarked to stuff he didn't think were priorities, like dinner parties for his Rich Sponsors to discuss how to redirect the rest of it to their bank accounts.. That would help a lot. But, it was "earmarked" so NO to the schools, the parks, the streetlights, the Cops and Fire and Ambulance, and especially NO to Bus Service. A bit of rumor hit my ears today. Bus Service to be cut even further. Of course, any real announcement would be made after the election. When somebody else can take the heat, I suppose. The time frame spoken for the schedule, doesn't even cover kids going home from school. Far less people who work a 9-to-5. So one more time the Working Class gets to bite the something or other in order for the Parasite Class to continue their Massive Theft Ventures. I can almost understand Capitalists, Why SHOULD other people

Mayor looks PETA gift horse in the tits

COLORADO SPRINGS- When our cash-wrung city decided to cut trash removal for municipal parks --if also to make it harder on the homeless camps-- People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) famously stepped in with an offer to subsidize the service if we agreed to use their trash cans.   Bruised by national news accounts of our shuttered services and having to extinguish 1/3 of our traffic lights, Mayor Rivera accepted PETA's offer. Until he saw their message. Which element was it that was too risqu for conservative Hooter Springs: the lettuce-clad bikini girl? The call to go vegan? Or the trashing of the Tea Partier's staple for what's for dinner?

Ed Billings puts city council on Weebly

Springs' own Guy Fawkes, aka union activist Ed Billings, has a website finally, named not unpredictably, Colorado Springs Sucks. His first salvo is aimed at Mayor Rivera and our city's cutback of transportation services. Excerpt: 11410

Treachery on the Springs City Council!

COLORADO SPRINGS- I have to admit dropping my guard on the TABOR issue yesterday after 5 out of 4 council members pledged on Monday to vote in favor of putting reform on the November ballot. Private citizens who testified before the council went home satisfied that the city had heeded their words. No such luck. On Tuesday when the official vote was taken, two of the members changed their vote to NO. Council woman Jan Martin and Mayor Lionel Rivera decided to reverse what they'd told the public they'd do. 8502

Weiss TABOR reform has votes to pass!

COLORADO SPRINGS- I attended a COS city council meeting today, lured by the prospect that Vice Mayor Larry Small was going to call the CS Independent publisher a liar to his face.   I'm always excited at the prospect of differences of opinion reaching a level of incivility. Do we care about these issues? Or is it all about liking each other, regardless who's oppressing whom? We gentlemen debaters, after all, are never those affected by the injustices in question. 8486

Colorado Springs city government once again says it will end police raids on Homeless camps

COLORADO SPRINGS- Yesterday the CS municipal government, under the threat of an ongoing lawsuit, once again declared that it would end police raids on the Homeless. KKTV reports the following- 'The Colorado Springs City Council voted in favor Tuesday on a plan to help the city's homeless. The plan is being called the 10-Year Blueprint To Serve Every Homeless Citizen in the Pikes Peak Region. Tuesday's vote follows the Council's approval on Monday to adopt a new plan that includes giving homeless residents advanced warning of cleanups and using mental health workers to communicate with them during the sweeps. City officials placed a moratorium on homeless camp cleanups this fall after homeless advocates threatened to sue the city.' 6668

Is Barack Obama the Socialist candidate for President?

Stephen Colbert and Brian Moore discuss the question of whether Barack Obama is actually the Socialist candidate for President of the United States. The conclusion between them was that Obama actually was not, but he seems a bit brighter than the real Socialist Party candidate for President actually appears to be. 5300

Torture by America, Mayor Lionel Rivera, and the Pikes Peak Justice and Peace Commission

The issue of how the US government under the Bush Administration, with the help of its Democratic Party and Republican Party collaborators, has legalized and openly allowed the use of torture despite it being internationally illegal is a big issue in our country. Many Americans are up in arms about this, and rightly so. One of the first duties that the pro-Peace/ antiwar community must do is to fight to end governmental use of torture on prisoners held. Common sense guides us on this one. We have to stop open US governmental use of torture NOW. 3561
