A major obstacle in obtaining an accurate figure is that Hamas do not fight in uniform, a dishonorable custom of terrorists, making it that much more difficult to distinguish between militants and civilians. Additionally, the UN defines “children” as anyone under the age of 18, which would include many casualties otherwise considered adult–18–thus, further skewing the casualty figures cited here previously.

Characterizing the casualties in Gaza as mass slaughter is mass hyperbole. One would argue that millions of Kurds murdered by Saddam Hussein and hundreds of thousands killed in Darfur would better constitute mass slaughter. Given Hamas’s penchant for hiding behind civilians and booby-trapping schools and hospitals, it’s remarkable the Gazan casualty count is not exponentialy higher. It’s a testament to the great care the IDF took in minimizing civilian casualties. As for Palestinians facing annihilation, it would behoove them to demand that Hamas cease diverting the billions of dollars in foreign aid and using it, instead, for the purchase of rockets. The Palestinians should also demand Hamas stop warehousing humanitarian aid in order to create a humanitarian crisis. Additionally, the Palestinians must change their culture from one of violence and genocide against Israel and establish peaceful relations with Israel.

Considering Hamas is classified as a terrorist organization by the US and EU, anyone proclaiming to be a member of Hamas faces the consequences. Characterizing the casualties in Gaza as mass slaughter is mass hyperbole. One would argue that millions of Kurds murdered by Saddam Hussein and hundreds of thousands killed in Darfur would better constitute mass slaughter. Given Hamas’s penchant for hiding behind civilians and booby-trapping schools and hospitals, it’s remarkable the Gazan casualty count is not exponentialy higher. It’s a testament to the great care the IDF took in minimizing civilian casualties. As for Palestinians facing annihilation, it would behoove them to demand that Hamas cease diverting the billions of dollars in foreign aid and using it, instead, for the purchase of rockets. The Palestinians should also demand Hamas stop warehousing humanitarian aid in order to create a humanitarian crisis. Additionally, the Palestinians must change their culture from one of violence and genocide against Israel and establish peaceful relations with Israel.
Andy, when you taunt a tiger, the tiger is bound to attack. Hamas shelling for Iisrael for 8 years justified Israeli retaliation against Hamas. Israel is obligated to protect its citizenry against attack and, hopefully, Hamas have learned that getting your ass kicked by the IDF is no picnic.
