Peru’s military has opened fire on indigenous activists who were blocking further Amazon mining, helicopters have been seen dumping charred bodies into the river to cover-up the death toll. Contact the Peruvian embassy – solidarity actions are planned June 11 through 16.
This is terrible, and i would support anyone’s right to go to Peru, as an individual, and give that government what for (or send money to organizations fighting these injustices). I would also ask, who owns the land upon which the mines are operating? As with many of these countries, i would think that “legally” they are owned by the mining company, but were ipso facto stolen by the government, and sold to the company.
