The US media was not permitted to depict fallen soldiers, in or out of the coffin. Next military censors forbade photos of US wounded. Most recently US soldiers have been under orders to prohibit the press from photographing them at all, to promote the illusion that our Iraqi surrogates alone are handling security. How infuriated our officials must have been to see this photograph in the international press.
Do Americans not want to see their fallen boys? In my recent experience with death, I most certainly wanted to see what happened straight up. Do the families of soldiers really not want to see how their loved one met his/her fate? What utter bullshit! If they don’t I do. Someone should care enough for the poor lost life!
Hopefully the total control our military has been asserting over media images will result in more outright mutiny on the part of international photo journalists.
Not long ago, a sequence of photos which documented the aftermath of an IED led the DoD to forbid all depictions of even wounded soldiers. The picture below shows a victim trying vainly to join his comrades who made it to cover. He didn’t die. But this image most certainly is dispiriting to Americans watching safely from their homes, who are losing their stamina for an ugly war.
Before coverage of operations in Iraq were safely controlled by only embedded reporters, freelance photographers were able to record images reminiscent of WWII, Korea and Vietnam. These GIs fell in the assault on Fallujah. Fortunately for the Pentagon, Iraq is now too dangerous for journalist who don’t have American minders.
A recent so-called breach of an embed contract yielded images of the aftermath of a suicide-bomb attack. The American photographer incurred heavy criticism for publishing the pictures which his Marine unit had ordered him to erase. But they were published in B&W, which invokes the famous WWII Pacific Theater dead, but it does lessen the realism, doesn’t it? These casualties seem more distant than our losses in Vietnam. And how do you reconcile that the simultaneous photos of the Iraqi casualties were printed adjacent in color? We can handle seeing the red of their blood, but not ours?

But they tell you, in tech school and beyond, they remind you at ever MAS briefing, that if an Airman or in this case Soldier makes sick call, and you can’t diagnose anything wrong, you, the Medic, are supposed to drop a dime on him, write up the basis for a Malingering charge.
Malingering is a court martial offense, if you’re lucky you get off with an Article 15, UCMJ, Commander’s non-judicial punishment.
They could send you to prison for it.
But what happens, right, when what’s going on is PTSD and it would take months or years to get a clear diagnosis? Something the fewer-and-farther-between doctors are supposed to judge.
Something, and Angel, I’ll almost give a benefit of the doubt about it, but it’s been three years since the Regional VA out of Texas ordered the VA doctors not to diagnose PTSD or even the Helmet-head brain injuries. Got caught at that time, I mean.

My brother-in-law who was still in the Army, working as a really low paid engineer for Raytheon, the makers of the Patriot anti-missile missile system, but technically “just” a Staff Sergeant… we scored some boxes from this military dump on Ft Bliss, right near McGregor Range and White Sands. Dynamite Boxes.
Good sturdy boxes that were made in 1949, “Red Cross Brand” Military Grade Extra Dynamite. Now, the Air Force had never told me anything about that, just that the Naughty Commies must be lying about it, but consider, would you recognize the words if they were written in Chinese? Well, you might, since your IP address comes out of Beijing but I think that’s just a little old hijack action you’ve got going. Probably didn’t even think of it, they just told you it was a “secure Tunnel” with no real details.
On the other hand, what Korean soldier or Chinese Soldier would recognize that same inscription in English? Now, I think they MIGHT have hijacked a shipment of what they thought were medical supplies, and THEN found out once they pried open the boxes.
So, if the story of boxes of munitions with the Red Cross painted on them, score one for a little bit of luck and a lot of attention to detail. I doubt very seriously that the Chinese or Russians or anybody else “commie” would have infiltrated Ft Bliss, at the time the single largest military installation in the World (according to the commander of the Military Police, when the NCO club was robbed at gunpoint) in order to plant evidence of a forgotten Conspiracy Theory.
But, Angel, this is what your leaders are up against, people who actually have a long-term memory and the ability to do simple math. Like knowing that two plus two does not add up to a Commie Lie.

But their pilot, one of them, was flying patrol and shot up a flock of sheep. No doubt, since you’ve been in that region RIGHT? you’ve noticed there’s no such thing as a flock of domestic sheep without a human shepherd. So he also shot up the shepherd. My Sister the Sergeant left that detail out, but I don’t miss things like that. So when first Clinton then Bush said that the Air Force and Naval pilots who flew patrols pre-war ALWAYS obeyed Rules of Engagement and NEVER fired on ground targets unless those Targets were engaged in hostile actions against the pilots or their aircraft.
So, how many sheep do you know who have the ability to use Anti-Aircraft equipment?

So he’s there in Turkey supposedly defending freedom, and with his presence helped the Turkish police murder a citizen of a NATO country. Now, if they had been Kurdish resistance fighters killing a Turkish Cop, and he had assisted like that, he would be charged with Terrorism for helping to kill citizens of a NATO country.
His Air Force and Army Comrades were there supporting that kind of murder of civilians. For all the “freedom fighting” he was doing he could have just as easily held the guys arms while the Turkish cops blew him away.
Now, let’s reverse those roles a bit, shall we? Why, yes, I believe I shall.
Let’s say somebody from America or anywhere else were training fighters in the Taliban to fire and maintain weapons.
Let’s say he’s killed at the firing range by a rebel Talibani.
Like what happened in Afghanistan early last month. Would that person be listed as a “civilian casualty” the same way the American Contractors who were wearing paramilitary uniforms, carrying arms and working for the U.S. and NATO forces were listed?
84 year old Etta Collins, if she were in Kabul instead of South Oak Cliff, Dallas, and Taliban soldiers shoot her through her door at two a.m., would she then be charged and convicted in the Dallas Media, posthumously where it’s easiest to obtain a conviction, of “displaying a weapon”? Would anybody from the American Press fail, as they did with Ms Collins’ case, they failed to notice that they shot her through a wooden door and in order for them to have seen a gun, they would have to be Superman with x-ray vision.
Alyanna Jones who was asleep in her home, the Detroit police shot her to death at the tender age of seven.
