Gas goes below $2

This is insane! We are in a global war to secure energy supplies under US control, and all is justified with a mountain of lies. Meanwhile, the price of oil sinks below $2 a gallon! How delusional is all of this?

The US corporate world is completely unable to deal rationally with any social or environmental problems. The same as with energy, so goes our health care. Diseases are exploding forth, more and more with total resistance to antibiotic treatment. And the leading caste of America cannot even arrange minimal coverage for the population! One factor in the proliferation of these resistant diseases is global warming’s effect on the overall environment, and that is in turn caused by the overburning of fossil fuels.

We need conservation and not deadly wars to try to temporarily keep gas below $2 for Americans when its real worth is far, far higher. It’s the healthy thing to do, anyway you look at it to conserve the use of gas. Healthy for the environment, and healthy for your own personal health and that of your family.

This has got to be the most delusional epoch in the history of mankind. Our energy companies should be nationalized and removed from influencing further the absurd political life of our nation. Yes, and a few of those energy executives already deserve to hang for what they have done to America and the world. Pretending that we do not have an energy crisis when in fact we do, is has set us back from dealing with a crisis that can kill us all quite shortly down the road.

If we don’t run out of the oil to keep the world economy moving, the bacteria will get us as they thrive in our overheated world minus much of its ozone. Many of the indigenous tribes predicted that such poor stewards of nature would eventually destroy themselves, even as they themselves got slaughtered off. It appears to be coming to pass as tribal elders once claimed it would,

Capitalism has become exactly like a societal cancer that is now being fed on gas at $2 a gallon. Don’t celebrate this price. Cry.

Interesting that the comments are way down at the bottom… for a while there I thought you guys blocked me (the way the Gazette did).
Although I just got gas yesterday, and it was nice that it was cheap, I agree with your thoughts. People will simply not consider public transportation as an option until gas is too expensive. Visiting Seattle, getting places (especially downtown) by car is inconvenient – so I always take the bus. I’m ashamed to admit it, but I know that public transportation net better than the one here in Colo Spgs. People will only change via the pocketbook – if we want them to use buses and trains, it has to COST something to use a car.

It has to cost the true price. Which it does, but most of the price is shielded from our immediate view. It comes at a price of all the military and other government goodies used to secure the raw materials, at a price the Oil Companies can accept. The top Fat Cats in these Corporate Citizens then take huge tax discounts for themselves, like tax breaks for (and GW made a huge profit tucked away far from the official eyes of the tax collector) for energy exploration. Their business is subsidized by the little dogs. The Skinny Cats. Us.

The costs are hidden in the debt. National debt is now to a point that only the most optimistic estimates of returns, combined with some really heavy book cooking, could offer us even the illusion of maybe someday thinking of some way we might pay it off.

If we go to talking about buying gas with blood we are “idealists” instead of realists.
    Except the blood is real.

I am a firm believer in Peak Oil theory. The true cost of gas can nowhere be found anywhere, simply because it is only the current market price we pay.

But oil is a nonrenewable resource, and the easy part of the oil is already half out. What if all our hopes on a tech fix coming along do not pan out? What then in 25 yrs, 50 yrs, 100 yrs?

So my point is quite simple. Is the market price really the true price of oil, whether it be $2 a gallon here, or $7.50 a gallon in Europe? In 500 years all the coal, oil, and gas supplies may well have gone the way of whale oil. Unavailable at most any price.

  4. And the 24 West project ends up at a most symbolic place. At the Sinclair Gas Station. the one with the Dinosaur. And a bus stop already in place. If they set public transportation to Free Rides, it would cost the taxpayers a whole bunch less money than the current subidization of waste. “Look at me, for I am rich, I can buy a car that gets less mileage than a bus, and YOU have to pay for my gas!!! And by the way, I am a conservative!!”

And now, the price is going up above $3 again.

    already there in some precincts.

    When will they ever learn?
