Here’s another one for ANZAC Day…

So, it was on or just before ANZAC Day four years ago, the last veteran of Gallipoli died.   And I truly do get a bit sad and angry, betimes, when these guys are held up as a reason FOR more wars, more militarism, more police state bullshit.  Sometimes I choke when singing  Eric Bogle’s song, “The Band Played Waltzing Matilda”. There were 2 sections of the song:
“I looked at the place, where me legs used to be” and “But as year follow year / More old men… disappear / Someday no one will march there at all.”

Which happened this February.  The last WWI Veteran, an English nurse who joined when she was 14.  Funny how such things run in cycles.

When she was born, the “old men disappearing” were veterans of the Napoleonic Wars of which we in America got a teenie weenie bit part, not even onstage really, more like the orchestra pit.  We didn’t actually win, got a “mutual non-aggression pact” with the British, who among other “losses” they incurred, took a “beating” at Baltimore where they bombed the living Hell out of Fort McHenry, but didn’t actually capture it.  Burned Washington D.C. (Why is the White House white? Because after they almost burned it down it was repainted with the cheapest and only paint available) and a small expeditionary force didn’t take New Orleans at a time when it wouldn’t make a gnat’s eyebrow worth of difference because our part of the war was already over.

Kind of like we only got our collective arse beat pink instead of shiny red.  A country song called “The Winner” from 1973 leaps to mind:

“But I left that person cursing, nursing
Seven broken bones
And he only broke… uh, THREE of mine.
Guess that makes me the Winner.”

Gee, we only got whooped a little so let’s make Songs out of it.  “The Star Spangled Banner” and “The Halls of Montezuma” have a lot in common there.

When those “victories” were accomplished, two other famous nurses were growing up, Clara Barton and Florence Nightingale. Women doctors?  Not in the “civilized” world, you betcha, Red Ryder.

They didn’t even allow women to work in hospitals, the only “nursing” they were allowed to do professionally involved renting their nipples to rich women who couldn’t be bothered to do it for their own kids.

Women in the military?  Ha to the Ha-Ha!!  They were “allowing” children into the Army, hanging kids for petty theft, too… long before they accepted women in any kind of uniform.  In fact, on “Haunted London” tours you get the story of a ghost at Old Bailey who was hanged in 1911, when SHE was 8.

For those who are actually counting, Bravo!! and those who dropped out in 2nd grade, for you I’ll do the math.  The nurse who just left our Vale of Tears was 11 in 1911, and three years later she enlisted unless I’m doing the math wrong.  They started enlisting women as nurses primarily because they were using the men in important jobs like collecting bullets and shell fragments.

After the war, women could still be imprisoned, hanged and beaten to death by their husbands, but couldn’t vote or own property, so you didn’t actually come a long way, baby.

The biggest gain, allegedly, for any group has been for some reason being accepted as cannon fodder.

There is an awfully twisted logic to that.  “Congratulations, you got the job!!  Which by the way involves YOU being killed by someone who has been honored with THE SAME JOB.”  Luck, that is.

In one made-for-TV movie from the 80s, Cicely Tyson had this really cool line, about the Army being integrated across the “color” barrier..  “Oh, Lord! They fond found out we make good soldiers!”

Now they’re saying that it’s a major milestone that gay People can openly serve in the military.  Great big whoop-di-diddly-do. Here I was thinkin’ to myself, what would be a REAL major milestone would be to, you know, NOT kill people who are historically marginalized groups.  Or anybody else.

Just, you know, sayin’.  But what really brings it back around to ANZAC is this was the first time Australian and New Zealand soldiers were allowed to serve under Australian and New Zealand officers.  Yippee for everybody!!

From another Bogle song “Green Fields O’ France”:

“Well the sorrow, the suffring’, the glory and pain
The killin’ a’ dying was all done in vain.
For Young Willie MacBride it all happened again
And again, and again, and again.

Those who scorn weeping for the dead, are those who lack the courage to morn or to love.

Those who mock as madness peace, are those who have taken the coward’s path, killing their own souls rather than face their insane fear of seeing anyone as their brother.

There is no glory in war.  Never was.  Especially obvious now when “our” country government is preparing to invade have other people invade yet another country, following the P.N.A.C. agenda plan two decades ago to economically dominate the world for the ben’mefit of the very few.  They also said boasted they would be able to get enough Americans to back their plans, even surrender their liberties, using simple lies, like the WMD lie they’re recycling for the Iran war.

And that American people are way too stupid to doubt a lie even when we’ve been told in advance and by the exact same liars, that they’re going to do so.

Funnier still, (I’m laughing so hard it looks like I’m just staring in disbelief at the morons, Ok, for those incapable of understanding sarcasm, no I’m not laughing, but AM staring in disbelief) Winston Churchill and some of his fellow Demon Span had issued a similar agenda, to liberate the Persian and Arabian oil fields for the Crown Corporation which is now called British Petroleum.  “Liberate” them from the iron grip of the Turks using as pawns the French, Jews, Persians, India and the Australia-New Zealand Auxiliary Corps, IN 1915.

Under the command of Sir Winston Churchill, whose first order of business (after igniting a war by having an Austrian cousin of the British King assassinated in Turkish ruled Sarajevo, Serbia) was to take the Turkish Dardanelles, at Gallipoli, on Suvla Bay.

“Johnny Turk, he was waitin’, aye, he’d primed himself well
They rained us with bullets, an’ shot us with shells
And in Five minutes flat they blew us all to Hell
Nearly blew us right back to Australia.”

Churchill resigned his command and took a commission as a field officer on the Green Fields o’ France.  Maybe he should have enlisted as a private.  Guess not.  Aristocrats aren’t supposed to be cannon fodder, that’s what peasants are for, eh wot?

Ah, well…

Could have/Should have/What ifs and such are parlor games which are now revived via computers.  One scenario suggested that if Alexander the Great had been hit one inch to the left by a Persian battle axe, early in his conquests, his bodyguard wouldn’t have been able to save him.  His empire and subsequently the Ptolemaic Dynasty, the Etruscan civilization, Carthage and Rome might not have arisen and Jesus would have just been a street preacher in a dusty backwater of the Persian Empire.

My favorite is one Senator Al Franken wrote for SNL back before it was just initials, “What if Spartacus had a Piper Cub?”, which ended up as no difference.  “What if Superman had landed in Germany instead of Kansas?”, the allies would have developed the Kryptonite ray, no difference.  The one they had lined up next was “What if Custer had a Sherman Tank?”, but they didn’t keep it going.

What if Churchill had been killed?  What if the ANZACs had mutinied? But my mom taught me a saying about IF: “If a frog had wings he wouldn’t bump his rump with every jump.”

Frogs don’t fly, the War went forth with so many “oopsie” moments the Crown went bankrupt, Every Soldier has not died, and War has ground on every stinking day since.

Aye, Willie MacBride, I can’t help but ask “Why?”  Or did those who died here know why they died?

“for the sorrow, the sufferin’, the glory, the pain
The killing and dying was all done in vain.
For Young Willie MacBride, it all happened again
and again, and again, and again.”

“Did they beat the drum slowly?
Did they play the fife lowly?
Did they sound the death march as they lower ye down?
And did the bank play “The Last Post” in chorus?
And did the pipes play “The Flow’rs o’ the Forest?”

This will be the first ANZAC Parade with absolutely none of the Great War veterans attending or watching.  In May, it will be our first memorial day and come November, Armistice Day will have lost its last feeble grip on reality.  9-11 lost it on or about 9-10-01, but that’s another story.

The theme keeps going, rambling, but still making an order of magnitude more sense than the ongoing rambling war.

2 AM, time to piss off the Navy.

So this is the USN “crackerjack” work uniform blouse, from behind. Notice the two stars on a broad field of blue. That’s, according to my brother the Sailor, symbolic. The stars stand for the two times the USN fought the Royal Navy, and won. The extra large field is to make room for more stars as needed. A wonderful imperial gesture, yes? “We are mighty, you shall obey us!”

Then there’s BP. Which was founded as an adjunct to the Royal Navy and had the Royal Navy and even the U.S. Navy fight to secure their supply sources, which, surprise surprise surprise, none of which are actually in England. The propaganda bit they put out when they helped launch World War One, “That small nations might have the same rights as the Great Powers…” purest bullshit. Then as now, it was all about the Rich getting richer and using the blood and labor of the poor to do it. The kicker of it came down this past spring… when British Petroleum, that ol’ devilish offshoot of the British Royal Navy, Bitch-slapped the U.S. Navy in American territorial waters. Guess you kids in Uncle Sams Canoe Club should take those stars off?

May God have mercy on the next nation who is so unfortunate to discover that they, too, have United States and British oil buried under their sands.

They’ll be reduced to puppet dictatorships like Iraq and Kuwait and Nigeria and Ghana and Texas and Colorado have. There will be a top social layer of Kiss-Ass Experts like al Maliki and a vast underclass who will either be slaves to the Korporatisch Imperium or hunted, and their children as well, for the “crime” of being insurgents and resisting the Mighty United States and British Military.
They’ll be “free” do obey, conform, comply.

Of thee I Billy Sing

Chinese-Australian hero of GallipoliOK, so that was the stupidest title. But the real story is even more stupid.

Australian TV producers were casting for a TeleDocumentary TV series “The Legend of Billy Sing” about a Chinese-Australian soldier who is lauded as a hero of Gallipoli. One of the Stupidest military campaigns in history, and that says much. Billy Sing was called the “Suvla Assassin” because he was apparently single-handedly responsible for the deaths of 200 Turkish soldiers. Imagine an Australian version of Sgt York, (every time I see some of this jingoistic crap I think of the film that didn’t-quite-star-John Lennon, he had a supporting role, “How I Won The War”.) but instead of Sgt Alvin York being portrayed by whoever the hell played him he was played and cast as say, an English or French or whoever Recent Immigrant instead of a hillbilly from the Cumberland Gap, imagine how well that would play in Tennessee.

So, Billy Sing, cultural folk hero to all Chinese-Australians, in the Television Drama, is being cast and played not as an Asian, but as a Caucasian.

Read the quote from the director:

The director, Geoff Davis, actually picked his son, Josh, to play the role, and defended the decision by saying that he could not find a 60-year-old Chinese actor to play Billy Sing’s father

SAY WHAT? How far did that freak peckerhead peckerwood look? Even in MEXICO you could find Ethnic Chinese neighborhoods. Far less Australia, which shares a large stretch of ocean with China. If nothing else, he could have gone to Goddamn Hong Kong, the Chinese answer to Hollywood, and I bet he would have found thousands of 60-year old Chinese actors with the necessary screen credentials AND probably a better command of the Queens English than he has. And since it’s Chinese Australians, what, did all the Chinese Australians sign some kind of pact to just freakin’ disappear before turning 60?

The dude is playing Nannie Nannie Boo Boo Stick your head in Doo Doo with every non-white Australian. “Hey, guys, we realize your culture was extant and fully developed, socially, economically, scientifically and even had a Written Language and advanced mathematics, back before the English stopped painting themselves blue, and lighting their hair on fire when they went into battle, naked… But gosh-darn it, we need a Hero from OUR much superior Culture. Not that we think YOURS is inferior, mind you, it’s just that, well, we’re racially and culturally better than you”.

I’m not a big fan of Jingoism rally-round-the-flag-boys Military Propaganda, and if Winston Churchill had been half the Gentleman he pretended to be, he wouldn’t have taken a Field Officers command subsequent to resigning from the Flag Rank he had held, but instead written a note to his wife, stuck his service revolver in his mouth and Done The Proper Thing. Because it was HIS stupid idea to jump the Turks in Gallipoli.

but the Band, played Waltzing Matilda
As we stopped, to bury our slain
We buried ours
and the Turks, buried theirs.
Then we started all over again…

Saint Paddy’s Day Massacre… with a slice of Turkey on the side.

There’s also Turkey. “Model Democracy” of the Muslim world according to the Pentagoons and the Terror-State Department. Shaped and molded with American Taxpayer dollars since the end of World War One.
My brother-in-law the Air Force Sergeant lets slip a little more than the Air Force would be comfortable divulging, but hey, they used to sell tee-shirts and bumper stickers at the BX saying “Peace is our profession –Killing is our Hobby.”(Everything after the dash is an add on, the motto is that of Strategic Air Command, {defunct} which is now split into Space Command, Bomber Command and Missile Command… The ones with the nukes) and the ever-popular “we are here to win your hearts and minds (actual mission statement courtesy of General Westmoreland) … Or just burn down your God-Damn huts.”

But one of the things that he let cross his lips, as he was trying desperately to berate me for my Anarchist “A” on my beret, “You know what they do to people like you in Turkey?
(yeah, bro, they kill us in the streets and jail us and torture us on drummed up charges the same way they do here)

“I watched as a the Turkish cops just blew one away”
(meaning, they not only had him outgunned but outnumbered, Real Brave Men, they are…)

and dragged his body away”
(While a group of American “service”Men who were allegedly Protecting Freedom in Turkey stood guard and BY THEIR VERY PRESENCE ENABLED THE TURKISH PIGS TO MURDER A CITIZEN FOR EXERCISING FREE SPEECH)

But they’re fighting for “freedom”.

The lying sons-of-bitches don’t fight for freedom there, they damn sure ain’t going to fight for that freedom here either.

Like the St Paddy’s Day Massacre.
Where they took an Anti-Imperialist Holiday and turned it into into an orgy of Imperialistic Mutual Congratulations and elevated the Military to the level of Christ on the Cross.
Turkey figures into that as well, there was an incident not long after the (suppressed) St Patrick’s Celebration in Ireland, before then it was a vassal state to the English, being forced to pay reparations to the English for the cost to the Imperial Crown to conquer them in the first place.
And to pay the Crown for the cost of occupying Ireland and murdering the Irish subjects.

Calling British subjects “citizens” is a misnomer, they’re living in a Monarchy where the Top Bitch got her job by being born.

But there’s a Turkish island, Gallipoli. The Crown, represented by Winston Churchill, used the Colonial Conscripts from Australia, New Zealand, and IRELAND in what was and still is the most costly and brutal failed Amphibious Assault, ever. “That Small nations might be free”
April 25, 1915.

To show how successful this monstrous waste of human lives was/is, Gallipoli is still Turkish.
And the Turkish government is making a “Killing” selling ANZAC Day tours of the battlefields.

This was one of the breaking points of British and by extension American Imperialism in Ireland.
A short 5 weeks after the Irish were forbidden to wear green or march in any parade for St Patricks Day, by their British Slavemasters.
A brief musical interlude,
“Foggy, Foggy Dew”
I chose the Sinead O’Connor one because it’s easiest for those whose first tongue is English not Gaelic.
“While Britannias Huns with their long range guns
sailed into the Foggy Dew”

There’s another one by The Fureys called “Gallipoli” done from the Irish perspective, and one other they play (often) “And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda” from the Oz perspective.

Wanna bet not one of these songs gets included in the playlist at THIS years Official Mutual Admiration and Masturbation Society Parade?

They played “God Save the Queen” immediately after the Massacre and I would swear one of the bands ahead of us was playing Rule Britannia while the CS Gestapo Department were “doing their thing”.. and the crowd of Mostly Military were “defending freedom”, mostly by their silent acquiescence to this brutal scene, and a few “brave” ones yelling that the Pigs should kill us and that other entries in the Parade should run us over.

O, Brave New World, that has such creatures in it! O, Brave, BRAVE New World!

A few things that tie it together…
The United States Government considers the Republic of Ireland to be a Terrorist Organization.
The DHS considers them not only as a standalone Terror Group but as an affiliate of
Hezbollah, Hamas, the PLO, Red Brigades, Baader Meinhoff, the Weathermen,(seriously), Iran, the Ba’ath Party of Iraq, Front National Algerique Liberte, Libya, and the Democratic Party (US)

With that they’re in Hallowed Company, because they also consider (still) Martin Luther King jr, the NAACP, Nelson Mandela, the Mahatma Mohandas Ghandi, and if He were alive today they would consider Jesus Christ to be Terrorists.
The FBI lists them under RICO statutes.
The Irish Republic flatly refused to join the Koalition of the Killing in the Deconstruction of Iraq.
The Turks were on the British Hit List before the assassination, Some Say At The Instigation of The British and the Tsar, of Archduke Ferdinand.

They were on the Hit List because of a study Winston Churchill had done for the Admiralty, suggesting that coal-fired ships be phased out and OIL fired ships phased in, with the notation that the Arabian Peninsula and Persia had quite a lot of oil.
The problem being that the Turkish Empire controlled the oilfields, and that meant that the Crown would have to deal with a Foreign Power as equals in order to obtain that oil, or they would have to Seize the Oilfields by other means.

Winston Churchill also commanded the Conscript would-be-conquerors at Gallipoli.
After the disastrous invasion attempt, he did the “Noble” thing, Resigned his flag rank and took a Field Officer commission instead.
How Noble. Nobility, by the way, is a Rank and not any condition of personal honor and integrity.

A more “noble” thing in the more commonly used sense, would be to take out his service revolver and put it in his mouth so he couldn’t miss the brain. Too bad for History that he didn’t.

Ireland, enraged at not only being considered a Slave State by the British, and used as Cannon Fodder to literally give their lives and their blood, once more, for the Glory of The Imperial Crown, rebelled. That’s what the St Patricks Parade is SUPPOSED to represent.

We were chided and none too gently, on “Making POLITICAL Statements” At a St Patricks Parade WTF?

From whose rectal orifice, exactly, did they pull that one?
