The Evangelicals love the authoritarian structures of the US military! It’s seen as a command structure coming down almost directly from the authority of Jesus Christ himself. Never mind the torture on the ground at Bagram Air Base nor the bombing and murder of innocents from up on high. There is a soft side of Jesus, too, if you just buy it?
