Unresolved 2015 protest case reveals Denver police have been concealing evidence from all activist trials

Eric Brandt on the hoof
DENVER, COLORADO- A seemingly ordinary protester-in-the-roadway case has exploded in the face of Denver city lawyers from the prosecutor’s office to the department of civil liabilities. The case against activist Eric Brandt, for chasing a police motorcade which had falsely arrested a fellow demonstrator, today revealed that in arrests made at political protests, Denver police have been withholding key reports from the evidence disclosed to those defendants.

Denver police file what’s called an “After Action Report” for public protests that prompt a mobilized law enforcement response. But the department doesn’t release the report to arrestees who face charges stemming from those actions. Ostensibly the reports are kept secret to avoid public scrutiny of crowd control strategies, but the reports also document the attendance of officers who witness the purported crimes. Those –otherwise undocumented– personnel write reports which are then not included in the discovery evidence. That is what defense lawyers call “Brady Material”, witnesses who are not consulted about what they saw, possibly exculpatory evidence which is being denied to the accused. What role those officers might play in the circumstances leading to the arrests is also kept a mystery.

Last week just before Eric Brandt’s trial, a DPD After Action Report for the protest arrests of August 28, 2015 was accidentally brought to the court’s attention the morning of trial. DPD Commander Tony Lopez brought the AAR report with him as a crib sheet to help his officers corroborate their witness testimonies. The prosecuting attorney coaching the witnesses was offered the report as an aid and as a consequence she was obligated to reveal it to the defense. At first Judge Frederick Rogers gave the defense one hour to study the new document. An hour later, after everyone had pondered the implications, the jury pool was excused for good and Rogers conceded that more time was needed for further subpoenas.

At a pretrial conference today Judge Rogers tried to limit the extent of additional evidence needed before the case could proceed. He rejected a subpoena which he deemed too broad, and limited requests for further AARs to those filed August 26 and 28th. While a prosecuting attorney described such reports as so rare she’s never encountered one before, another city attorney sheepishly admitted that a paralegal in his office had unearthed three AARs that may meet the criteria. So much for rare, that’s three in as many days. Another city attorney insisted that she needed to vet those beforehand, but a peeved Judge Rogers volunteered to assess their applicability himself. If they weren’t in his in-box by 4pm, he’d assume they were forwarded to the defense as ordered.

In question in this particular case was a mention that the head of Denver’s Dept of Public Works had ordered the police action on August 28. This is at odds with all previous police testimony which denied communication with Public Works. It goes toward impeachment of those officers as well as establishing whether Denver police have been abusing the city’s “encumbrance” ordinance. The encumbrance code is what Denver has used to squash sustained protests beginning with the original 2011 Occupy Denver encampments.

This is not the first time After Action Reports have come to light. A lieutenant testifying against an activist last November mentioned in his testimony that the reason he was fully confident in answering how many officers had responded to the protest in question was that he’s just reviewed the AAR. Unfortunately the lawyer defending that case didn’t bite.

And the public learned about AARs when one was accidentally included in the discovery evidence of an Anonymous protester arrested at MMM2015. That report famously revealed that the police outnumbered the protesters, 27% of whom were undercover “Shadow Teams”. Unfortunately the furthest defense attorneys got to more evidence were reports sent for in-camera review by the judge, in that case municipal Judge Espinosa, who ruled there was nothing relevant to the case. The case by the way is under appeal.

Now it remains for someone to file a CORA Colorado Open Records Act request for the missing AARs. There’s one for every public protest countered by police. Anyone who has been convicted of an infraction at a protest, or was coerced into taking a plea deal on the face of one-sided evidence, was denied the full story they needed to defend themselves.

For Eric Brandt’s current case, his being the last of charges filed against activists who occupied the Lindsey Flanigan Courthouse plaza in Fall months of 2015, the defense is seeking the AARs for the 26 police raids made against the protest, from its start on August 26 to its terminal extraction on October 22. Were the police acting within their authority? Were their orders legal? Did Denver abuse an ordinance to curtail free speech in the plaza? Ultimately authorities curbed the protest by imposing a curfew. Was that a flagrant work-around to circumvent a federal injunction meant to prevent their harassment of protected activity in not only a traditional free speech area but a designated free speech zone. That battle is already scheduled in April 2017 in federal court.

Media calls Hastert clean-as-a-whistle as he is indicted for “prior misconduct” but where did he get millions to pay?

Former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert’s biggest crime isn’t whatever he’s paying hush money to cover up, it’s this: Where did the former high school teacher and wrestling coach get a discretionary fund of millions to pay off a blackmailer? While reporters try to dig up Hastert’s accuser, we should follow the money backward. WHERE DID SPEAKER HASTERT GET THE MONEY?! Or do we take for granted that all congressmen slash lobbyists are multi-millionaires who can spare several million for bribes of their own? It’s interesting that the media wants to indemnify Hastert’s “clean as a whistle” career from what they’re labeling “prior misconduct”. But that “clean as a whistle” firewall comes from Hastert having presided over the impeachment of Bill Clinton. So he’s a choirboy along the likes of Ken Starr. Otherwise Hastert’s long reign in the house was the usual shady. Details listed on the recent indictment indicate Hastert was being blackmailed for sexual misbehavior in the Duggar family tradition, not uncommon to born-again congressmen of Hastert’s hue.

A Congressional resolution about the Wholesale Pardon of the Bush Criminal Cartel…

It’s a start. Last year and the year before Pelosi refused to put impeachment on the table.”Oh, goodness gracious no! It would make us seem Petty and partisan if we were to ever actually, you know, Do Our Jobs and confront the Dictator”

Now at least there’s a start.

For those unfamiliar with Legalese, filing papers on somebody effectively stops the clock on any Statutes of Limitations.

Including “executive immunity”
And this is as good as any indictment or arrest warrant

It’s not too late to defend the Constitution

If the motion is tabled until after the inauguration it would be A) far more difficult for the RepubliKlans to delay or derail…
and B) it leaves the investigation very much open.

If for instance Rove or Cheney want to Arrogantly big-ass congress and refuse to answer subpoenas, then their Cowardly Lying asses can be arrested

And they won’t have their Regime in the White House or the Attorney Generals office to bail the pussies out.

Rep. Jerrold Nadler Leads Opposition to Bush Pardons

Dear Activist,

Congratulations! Just one week ago we asked you to launch a massive movement against pardons by signing a petition to your Representatives. Over 46,000 of you took action and Congress took notice.

On Friday, Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) introduced H.Res. 1531 urging President Bush not to pardon senior administration officials for crimes the President authorized. It notes:

President George W. Bush may have committed crimes involving the mistreatment of detainees, the extraordinary rendition of individuals to countries known to engage in torture, illegal surveillance of United States citizens, unlawful leaks of classified information, obstruction of justice, political interference with the conduct of the Justice Department, and other illegal acts

and that

Bush has been urged to grant preemptive pardons to senior administration officials who might face criminal prosecution for actions taken in the course of their official duties

Nadler’s resolution urges Congress to investigate those crimes and any pardons relating to them, and urges the Attorney General (current or future) to appoint an Independent Counsel to prosecute those crimes.

These are major steps towards holding George Bush, Dick Cheney, and other senior officials accountable for their crimes and thereby upholding the rule of law, rather than allowing Presidents to become dictators.

Rep. Nadler’s leadership is crucial because he chairs the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties and can use his credibility and clout to move the resolution forward either during the lame duck session in December or when the next Congress convenes on January 6.

So our next step is to persuade as many Representatives as possible to co-sponsor H.Res. 1531. Please sign our new petition:
http://www.democrats.com/nadler-pardons

We also encourage you to call your Representative at 202-224-3121 and speak with the Legislative Assistant who handles Judiciary matters.

If your Representative says (s)he will co-sponsor, please let us know by commenting on our resolution “whipping” page:
http://www.democrats.com/nadler-pardon-resolution

Thanks for all you do!

Forward this message to everyone you know!

I know, I know, some readers would think it’s not as much fun doing it that way as simply waiting for Karl Rove as he’s heading for his Lame-o Limo and beating his face in to the back of his head with a jack handle…

But then, in Federal Penitentiary, just imagine ….

With all those people he and Bush had railroaded waiting for the Board of Pardons and Paroles to investigate their cases… Especially the ones who were tortured….

And no Secret Service or White House Marine Guards around to step between them….

Put IMPEACHMENT back on the table

President-elect Barack Obama could begin work today, and not just choosing his cabinet. As de-facto head of the Democratic Party, Obama should put the impeachment of George W. Bush straight unto the table. Read an insult into this too, but Bush is a lame duck. Shoot it.

Technically a lame duck president is left with not much room to swing. But a drunk in a padded room is still a threat if he’s got the red phone.

What excuse could Speaker Nancy Pelosi give for avoiding taking on the sitting president this time? It imperils what priorities now? The political battle’s won. The Dems are in charge. Is Dubya holding the world hostage until he’s paid a ransom and given a plane to escape to Paraguay?

Bush has proved that in the space of two weeks his team can summon the greatest economic crisis from an economy whose “fundamentals are strong” and raise a tab of possibly five trillion dollars. He’s got an economic summit coming up, and an itch to scratch with his own weapons of mass destruction. Distract him before he pokes somebody’s eye out.

And how better to get a jump on the upcoming challenges than to bring President Bush right to the mat, before the clock is ticking on congressional sessions which everybody should hope can be addressing America’s pressing problems problems.

Too, Joseph Lieberman should be stripped of his leadership roles on Senate subcommittees, and right wing media pundits need to lose their access to Washington.

Excerpts from Thomas McCullock’s Oct 10 notes, thomasmc.com.

Palin says NUCULAR like ya know who

Sarah Palin Charles Gibson ABC interviewSarah Palin pronounces “nuclear” like President Bush, “nucular.” Ya know, Ya gotta wonder whether “Charlie” came through for ABC viewers, or whether the game afoot is really a jig up. Or trap set. But for whom?

Any number of Palin’s handlers could have made sure Palin sat up straight, or wasn’t positioned to be talked down to by her white male elder. Unless it was meant to look that way.

Gibson’s questions were plain and straightforward, and probably inherently condescending. Could Palin have failed them more miserably? Where could Gibson have gone that wasn’t going to make this Hockey Mom look like she was clutching her purse at a job interview?

Most intriguing to me was the question about the “Bush Doctrine.” Palin didn’t know what it is, but I’d hazard to say neither do you. It’s not like the Monroe Doctrine, or whatever doctrine rebuilt Europe, it’s the term the media has dubbed for George Dubya’s cowboy foreign policy, and obviously they don’t make a big critical to-do about it with us. Sarah Palin huh? Cornering Sarah Palin into trying to conceal that she had no clue to its definition, made the interview look like an ambush.

Can you recite the “Bush Doctrine?” If newsmen and analysts would spell it out, the American public would have called for Bush’s immediate impeachment. Now Palin, thrust cleverly into the role as OUR surrogate, is expected to know what the media has left unspoken?

At first glance I thought ABC came out more aggressively than I expected. Palin certainly did not disappoint with her face plant. But maybe a good many potential McCain voters are going to see their hopes victimized by whatever subtle “shove” they think pushed Sarah over. Especially coming from what they believe to be the Left-leaning media which led Palin unto the ice. Right wing self-described feminists are going to see themselves as victim to Gibson’s paternalistic tone.

ABC may have allowed itself to look like a bully, without asking any of the hard questions about all the representations Palin made in her speech at the RNC. Lies which she’s being allowed to repeat unchanged at every subsequent rally. If they had, at least we’d have answers that Palin would be qualified to give, the proverbial rope with which she’d hang herself.

Would Dominionists murder for Palin?

While we’ve been speculating whether lotto-winner candidate Sarah Palin measures up to big “C” Christian standards, lo, church ambitions of old step in. A minister friend of mine offered Ides of March for November and President-elect John McCain: Having a Christian Dominionist in line for the US presidency would mean curtains for the septuagenarian as soon as he’s sworn in. It doesn’t take Dan Brown to imagine religious zealots would stop at the proverbial nothing to raise one of their own to supreme power.

Whether syphilis takes John McCain or whether it’s Sarah’s poison lipstick, we’ll be Sieg Heiling President Palin, whose signing statements will be taken straight out of scripture. Then where will the poor world be? I’m thinking RBs. Revelations and nuclear bombs.

My friend envisions the remedy will be an urgent Palin impeachment leading to a Pelosi ascent. A circuitous Democratic Party re-coup to be sure, amidst global catastrophe from which it’s difficult to imagine our world will escape. No wonder the rich have privatized spaceship R&D.

Green Party-pooper insubordination more embarrassing than imaginable

And I thought I hade a vivid imagination. Green Party presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney has issued a press release detailing her explicit intention to participate in the Sunday DNC rally. The letter is very diplomatic but it spells out the ultimatum she was given by the Colorado Greens to desist. Cynthia McKinney for President Compelling reading. On a related note. Cindy Sheehan will also be joining the lineup. This represents a significant divergence from her close allies Medea Benjamin and UFPJ’s Leslie Cagan. It shouldn’t be that way.

If you’re not inclined to read McKinney’s letter, and I’ll add it’s as direct as her speeches, I can summarize the threats made and actions taken. Spoiler alert. For agreeing to speak at a rally organized by R-68: Resignation threatened. Fundraiser, place to stay, withdrawn. All scheduled engagements canceled. Assistance to get on Wyoming ballot, withdrawn. Every effort to remove her from Colorado ballot, threatened. McKinney was also informed she had been last choice candidate of Colorado delegation. So there.

Are we witnessing someone’s hissy-fit nervous self-immolation? Could be, but it packs the wallop of a suicide bomber. Local party gutted; bystanders, fellow Greens, burned; vital preparations annulled just months from the election. Third parties probably attract people who have difficulty with authority. In this case with irreparable consequence.

Cynthia McKinney & Rosa Clemente Announce Their Participation in Anti-war, Anti-human rights Abuse Events Before the DNC
August 14, 2008

As the United States activated Navy ships and the Air Force to begin an airlift of non-specified goods into the former Soviet state of Georgia, and military exercises began in the Persian Gulf near Iran, I received communications from certain individuals among the Colorado Greens who were organizing campaign support events there, suggesting that I not participate in an anti-war program being organized by other individuals in Colorado.

Perplexed, I began to do my research to understand the nature of the fissure that I seemed to be placing myself in the middle of. The communications to me about not participating in one of the scheduled events became more and more shrill. The events ran through August 26th. When the lineup of speakers, including Rosa and me, was announced for the events in question, I received multiple communications stating in various ways that the sender from the Green Party of Colorado, was on the verge of desperation over the matter. Within a few hours, I was reading messages stating that the Green Party of Colorado would be ruined if I participated in the End the Occupations/End the War march and rally slated to take place on the morning of August 24th on the steps of the Colorado State Capitol, or if Rosa participated in a Freedom March and Rally for Human Rights and Political Prisoners at Civic Center Park the following day.

An article appeared in a local Colorado newspaper stating that Rosa and I would not appear at the events for which we had been scheduled. Rosa responded to our Colorado Green Party contact that yes, indeed, we were appearing at the two events. Both Rosa and I then received messages demanding to know by a time certain what our plans were, and asserting that the Green Party of Colorado would be totally ruined if we associated with the group sponsoring the events. In addition, we were told that at least one resignation and sustaining membership would be tendered to the Party, and that Rosa and I could expect no support on the ground in Denver from the Green Party of Colorado, including a planned fundraiser and a place to stay.

Without receiving any additional response or information from either Rosa or I, the correspondent sent a message informing us that all Green Party of Colorado events previously scheduled for us had been canceled. Further, the message stated that ballot access petitioning by Green Party of Colorado would cease in neighboring Wyoming and that all efforts would be made to remove Rosa’s and my names from the ballot in Colorado. The message also noted that the Colorado delegation overwhelmingly supported Elaine Brown at the Green Party Convention.

With the e-mail messages flying “fast and furious,” I hope I have mentioned the highlights of this episode in somewhat chronological order. What Rosa and I would like to address now, is the ideological and rational order that produced this outcome. At the very first Green Party debate held in San Francisco earlier this year, I pleaded for unity of action and purpose as we face the challenges that confront us as a country. Rosa and I are proud to join with others who are sick and tired of war, occupation, human rights abuses, and the continued incarceration of our political prisoners. We are proud to join with others who are willing to do something about it. In the context of activities in Denver, that means cooperating with some organizations new to us and others with which Rosa and I have had a long-standing relationship. Let me explain some of those relationships.

I am proud to have received a Backbone Award from the Backbone Campaign, one of the co-participants of the anti-war, anti-occupation events in question, according to the organizers.

Rosa and I are pleased to have received the endorsement of M-1 of Dead Prez, who put out a video of endorsement and is rallying other conscious Hip Hop, Generation X voters to the Green Party with Rosa and I as its nominees. Rebel Diaz was on the stage with Rosa as she accepted her Green Party nomination for Vice President. Both Dead Prez and Rebel Diaz are participating in the events in question, according to the organizers.

Fred Hampton, Jr.’s mother, a victim of COINTELPRO, came to Georgia in the mid-1990s to help me gain reelection after a malicious redistricting case that went all the way up to the Supreme Court. Ward Churchill has traveled to my Congressional district to educate my former constituents on the COINTELPRO of yesterday and the COINTELPRO of today. Natsu Saito introduced me to other victims of COINTELPRO. I asked Kathleen Cleaver to co-author a report that was submitted to Mary Robinson, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights at the time of the World Conference Against Racism, on the unsolved murders of Black Panther Party members who were victims of COINTELPRO. Fred Hampton, Jr., Ward Churchill, Natsu Saito, and Kathleen Cleaver are all participating in the events in question, according to the organizers.

As a Member of Congress, I supported the release of all political prisoners and welcomed information from the American Indian Movement about Leonard Peltier. I have at many times in my political career been allied with the ACLU, and have always supported Pam and Ramona Africa and the MOVE Organization. The American Indian Movement of Colorado, King Downing of the ACLU, and Pam and Ramona Africa of MOVE are all participating in the events in question, according to the organizers.

Mumia Abu Jamal has endorsed the Power to the People Campaign and my Green Party candidacy. According to the organizers, Mumia will transmit a message to all of us participating in the events in question.

Finally, I have appeared on various stages with many Palestinians; I have proudly spoken at rallies organized by Larry Holmes. Debra Sweet with World Can’t Wait was among the very first to my knowledge to organize around impeachment as an imperative and I support hers and all other impeachment groups in their efforts. And finally, I have known Ben Manski for a long time as a socially conscious activist who is also a member of the Green Party. According to the organizers, a Palestinian refugee is slated to speak at the events in question, as well as Larry Holmes, Debra Sweet, and Ben Manski.

Rosa and I have not been given any rational, ideological, or strategically-acceptable reason by the Green Party of Colorado to dissociate ourselves from the movement that this country so desperately needs and that these individuals and organizations participating represent, as we all attempt to hold the Democratic Party accountable for its complicity in all of the crimes of the Bush Administration. Therefore Rosa and I will keep our appointments in Denver and we hope that the members of the Green Party of Colorado will attend our sessions and listen to what we have to say. I have faith that by taking principled stands against war and occupation, human rights abuse, the prison-industrial complex, and in support of freedom for political prisoners, the Green party will emerge stronger.

Bush leaves US a half-trillion more debt

Bushco not only exhausted the treasury, but a half-trillion dollars more Americans don’t have. Is that someone you’re comfortable having a beer with? Someone who commits more spending to himself and friends, and leaves the debt to the next addressee? Credit card companies call that fraud. So long suckers! It’s graft plain and simple. Especially since the money wasn’t burnt up in a war, or blown to the winds by Katrina. No, this money was funneled, by the supertanker load, to Bush and Cheney cronies in oil, weapons and banking.

Think there’s not more damage Bush can do? Think the Kucinich impeachment call is after spilled milk? The ACLU can think of five barn doors we need to block immediately while Bush’s burglary is still in progress! Mukasey’s declaration of universal war for one!

Will Dems Make Cheney President?

Scapegoat Bush. As I write this, impeachment hearings are ongoing in the House. I have the sinking feeling that this could backfire on the Democrats, not because it will fail, but because it could pass. Remember, Cheney isn’t being impeached, and would become president if it succeeds. True, Cheney has been the one actually in control for the last eight years, so little would change, but what if he wants his own Presidential Library? He could signal to GOP incumbents that they have the opportunity to separate themselves from the disastrous “Bush” Administration’s reputation in November by dumping Bush, possibly leaving the GOP in control of Congress after the next election. It would also open up the surprise possibility of Cheney taking the GOP nomination in August, instead of McCain, who’s a loser in most Republican minds. Just a thought, a sick disturbing thought to ponder.

Americans, too dumb to vote? Think about the last two elections before you answer that.

The law that made children born to US citizens in the Panama Canal zone was not passed until after McCain was born, therefore he was not a “naturally born” citizen as the US Constitution requires. Then again, who pays attention to that old rag anymore? It also said that Bush and Cheney, being from the same state, could not be elected together.

John McCain, creepiest presidential candidate, ever!

So, Ms. McCain thinks it’s ok to go after a presidential candidate’s wife? Ok, who’s going to be the first to ask her about her past – and possibly current – drug addictions? If the McCain camp is smart, they will lock her up until after the election. Her proving she’s a cold-hearted bitch isn’t going to win him any votes, especially when she is contrasted with a class-act like Michelle Obama. Cindy McCain thinks that just being filthy rich somehow makes her classy. It doesn’t, and her mouth proves it. Her only talent is scaring small children. Between her facial plastic surgeries, and pulling her hair back as tight as possible, she looks like she’s falling backwards into a black hole.

Transcendental Politication.

Dennis Kucinich says if Judiciary Committee ignores his 35 articles of impeachment for 30 days, he will reintroduce with 60.

If stupidity were an energy source, Republicans could save the world!

Urge House Judiciary to impeach Bush

Dear Mr. Conyers, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee,
The Democratic Party may think it in its best interest not to begin impeachment proceedings against President Bush, please consider doing what is right, imperative and just. If Bush still has time to bomb Iran before he leaves office, you have the time to impeach him. Anticipating that you face a hostile press, please consider initiating an investigation of the media which could lead to their indictment on charges of treason for abetting Bush’s crimes.
Thank you!

Here’s the contact info for the House Judiciary Committee to urge them to move forward the 35 Articles of Impeachment HOUSE RESOLUTION 1258. This committee is chaired by John Conyers, once-upon-a-time-ago a vocal advocate of impeachment. A written letter makes the best impression. Personal phone calls are next. Then Emails.

The US media should be impeached!

If we do not report what falls in the forest the tree does not fallWhere is the news of the proposed Bush impeachment before Congress?

Kucinich puts forward articles of impeachment, the House has tomorrow to act on them. Are we going to learn that virtually all of our House representatives are going to look past those articles, each of which Kucinich backed up with unimpeachable citations, and they’re going to turn their backs on the courage of their Ohio colleague and give Bushco a pass again? No doubt. Because if Bushco is guilty, a solid preponderance of the Legislature has been complicit as well.

Before tomorrow’s decrescendo, what have we already learned today?

We’ve seen, in neon turncoat red, that there are no Benedict Quislings like the media. Where is the news coverage of the 35 charges leveled against Bush?

Except for C-Span, there is no coverage. C-Span was perhaps caught unawares and couldn’t go black on Kucinich when he sprung his five hour surprise on everyone.

But the major networks made nary a mention and the print media was dismissive. Shame on the bastards. Perhaps they are cocksure that if they don’t report it, for all intents and purposes it didn’t happen.

All the media really have to report, to cover themselves, is that Kucinich’s effort was diminutive, ill-advised, pro-forma, unsupported, etc, and having minimized it, they will virtually guarantee that the outcome will be just that.

The media keeps our naked emperor out of reach from impeachment. You want to blame the corrupt legislature? To the gallows with the so-called Fourth Estate as well!

Complete 35 Articles of Impeachment Kucinich blacked out by media and net

Rock Star
US Representative Dennis Kucinich:

“President George W. Bush, by such conduct, is guilty of an impeachable offense warranting removal from office”

x 35

Dennis Kucinich put impeachment on the table last night in defiance of House Speaker Pelosi’s assurance to Bushco. He snuck it in under a Question of Privilege and then spoke for almost five hours. C-Span carried his electrifying performance live, but the mainstream media is so far ignoring the story. As a result, it does not rank on Google News and bloggers themselves have been slow to disseminate the details, hindered by the kucinich.us website being hacked. Here are the 35 ARTICLES OF IMPEACHMENT via democrats.com via Afterdowningstreet.

Kucinich reads Articles of Impeachment!

Democrats.com is reporting that Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, is on the floor of the House reading 35 Articles of Impeachment against President George W. Bush. Finally! Watch it live on C-SPAN right now.

Any one Article would be sufficient grounds to impeach Bush and remove him from office; taken together, the case for impeachment is undeniable.

Even if our gutless leaders never vote to impeach Bush, and I’m too discouraged and jaded to believe they will, it’s still fun to hear the charges neatly laid out by an adorable and very earnest Dennis Kucinich!

Bush the unimpeachable war criminal

HangmanRemember when Bill Clinton was “rebuked” for misleading Congress about the nature of his conduct with a White House intern? I’m sorry. I meant IMPEACHED.

A decade later legislators have concluded that Bush deliberately misled Congress and the American people about Iraq, al-Qaeda, et al, drawing the nation into an illegal war, resulting in untold deaths and a ruined economy. Is Bush impeached? Indicted? No, he’s REBUKED.

Not in My Name

Hello, I participated in the most incredibly diverse rally in front of the United Nations at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza. Here are my remarks:

Cynthia McKinney Remarks Al Nakba Rally,
“Not in My Name”
United Nations, New York
May 16, 2008

On my birthday last year, I declared my independence from a national
leadership that, through its votes in support of the war machine, is
now complicit in war crimes, torture, crimes against humanity, and
crimes against the peace.

I declared my independence from every bomb dropped, every veteran
maimed, and every child killed.

I noted that the Democratic leadership in Congress had failed to
restore this country to Constitutional rule by repealing the Patriot
Acts, the Secret Evidence Act, and the Military Commissions Act.

That it had aided and abetted illegal spying against the American
people. And that it took impeachment off the table.

In addition, the Democratic Congressional leadership failed to
promote the economic integrity of this country by not repealing the
Bush tax cuts. They failed to institute a livable wage,
Medicare-for-all health care, and gave even more money to the
Pentagon as it misuses our hard-earned dollars.

We can add to that list, too, an abject failure to stand up for human
rights and dignity.

If the Democratic and Republican leadership won’t respect the right
of return for Hurricanes Katrina and Rita survivors, how can we
expect them to champion the right of return for Palestinians?

If this country’s leadership tolerates the wanton murder of unarmed
black and Latino men by law enforcement officials—extra-judicial
killings—how can we expect them to stop or even speak out against
targeted assassinations in the Middle East?

If the Democratic and Republican leadership accept ethnic cleansing
in this country by way of gentrification and predatory lending, why
should we expect them to put an end to it in Palestine?

If the leadership of this country impedes self-determination for
native peoples in this country, why should we expect them to support
indigenous rights for anyone abroad?

And sadly, the sensationalist corporate media would rather trick us
into thinking that reporting on a pastor, a former Vice Presidential
nominee, and a former cable TV magnate constitutes this country’s
much-needed discussion of its own apartheid past and present, so why
should we expect an honest discussion of apartheid and Zionism?

I hope by now it is clear. Our values will never be reflected in
public policy as long as our political parties and our country remain
hijacked.

Hijacked by false patriots who usurp the applause of the people and
all the while betray our values.

I’ve decided that neither the Democrats nor the Republicans will
operate any longer as business as usual—not in my name.

That Democrats and Republicans will use my tax dollars and betray my
values, not one day longer—not in my name.

That neither the Democrats nor the Republicans have earned my most
precious political asset—my vote.

And that now is the time to do some things I’ve never done before in
order to have some things I’ve never had before.

And so here today, I declare my independence from weapons transfers:
including Apache Helicopters; F’16s; sidewinder, hellfire, and
Stinger missiles.

I declare my independence from occupation, demolished homes,
political prisoners, and babies dying at checkpoints.

I declare my independence from UN vetoes, expropriated land, stolen
resources, and the installation of puppet regimes.

I declare my independence from all forms of dehumanization and am not
afraid to speak truth to power.

And I am happy to join with peace-loving people around the world who
know that there can be no peace without justice.

Let us never tire in our work for justice.

Thank you.

Will the Obama speech trump tribalism?

The press misleads us about the war, the economy, the environment, our health, even our food. Would you care to proffer one topic for which they do not present a perspective skewed by corporate interest? I can’t. Our national media cannot still broach the suggestion that our president is an imbecilic jackass. And now they’re fawning over Obama.

Oh the usual Fox buffoons are raising their objections, but I suspect it’s their turn as good cop bad cop, further building this perfect storm of electoral excitement. Everywhere I go, I hear friends talking about Obama’s speech. Oh it was some speech. Historic? Momentous? But are those their words? To compare it to JFK means to eclipse MLK like he was unsliced bread. Have you heard the speech? Is this buzz generating from you?

As a theatrical chorus setting the tone, the media is showing a wildly selective memory in rationalizing their adulation. Did we/they mean to skip over Reagan? He gave good speech. Many actors have made memorable speeches. And politicians. I favor James Galloway’s speech before the Senate, before that, I remember Oliver North’s.

Men of substance can make great speeches. Literary heros come to mind. What would happen if Americans held the presidential candidates to those standards? Czechoslovakia did. Couldn’t the most powerful elected office in the world command a higher wisdom quotient?

Barack Obama is certainly quick witted and persuasive. Has he persuaded you with the intelligence he’s displayed as a legislator? Going to war, the Patriot Act, Torture, Impeachment? Has he voiced concerns for health care reform, for example? You think Obama isn’t at liberty to be candid about those problems NOW?

Back to the media: who do you suppose our corporations, Wall Street, the World Bank, and the Military Industrial Complex want to see in our highest office? Bush is term limited, so who’s the next “best man for the job?”

I can see Americans voting for a woman, half the population are women, one hundred percent of everybody’s mothers are women. We’ve always entrusted teaching and nursing to women. More and more of our professors, judges, mayors, and governors are women. Hillary Clinton not only has political experience, she’s had a close personal brush with the top job. And to assuage any chauvinists, Hillary will have a male presidential chaperone, the traditional spouse and mentor, himself a role model to chauvinists. Is this woman electable? You have only to look beyond the media defamation to see a fully competent “bitch”.

Barack Obama’s speech may have addressed the issue of race in America with a finesse to make you swoon. So did he resolve it, put it to bed, as the media would like our own excited buzzings to conclude? Racism is in our hands, isn’t it?

I’d like to ask you, if you’ll turn off the telly for a mo, in your heart of hearts, will American voters, 90% of them who are white and can get into the polls unobstructed, will they vote for a black man? Visualize the red state voters who returned Bush to office for a second term. Visualize the ugly operatives, Christians and Blacks among them, who conspire to uphold Neo-conservative power, will they acquiesce to a black challenger?

I too would like to hope, but I’d like to hope Americans wake up to the difficult, self-critical rhetoric it’s going to take to reclaim our democracy. God Damn the anti-democratic corporate mouthpieces for offering us a calculated false hope. When Obama looses, they’ll shame us for not showing faith enough in hope.

Elliot Spitzer plays role model Democrat

Elliot Spitzer resigns having discredited the New York Governor’s Office with unsavory impropriety. No sooner had phone taps revealed his financial exchanges with a prostitute, than Republicans were calling for Spitzer’s resignation or he would face impeachment. Where do his political opponents get those kind of balls?

Are the articles of impeachment only for Republicans to charge? Is impeachment like a filibuster, only Republicans need apply? In fact, Republicans need only IMPLY they’ll do it and Democrats cave. How many Republican lawmakers and office holders have faced scandal yet clung tenaciously to fulfill their term? Why am I using the past tense?

The nation’s highest office, criminal by any standard of international law, beyond the severity of an intern blow-job, and impeachment is declared off the table by the senior Democrat? What are Democrats not telling the public about the real pecking order in Washington?

People like to say there’s no difference between the two parties. Of course that’s true. It’s the same Greek Fraternity. Except the Dems are the Pledges being rushed and hazed, to remain Plebes, never to graduate to the senior positions of the Republicans. Oh they can have their Bill Clinton, a moment on the hot seat, all the while being razzed and stymied by the Repugs who own the whole damn college.

Salazar, Allard and Lamborn all wimping out…

On the issue of Chimpeachment… Lamborn and Allard I can understand, they have to live in the same (american Taliban) party as Bush.

Lamborn thanks me for contacting his orifice oops I mean Office.. Allard gives me some bullshit about “we have checks and balances in our government and that has kept us free”… well, DUH! Allard, YOU ARE the “checks and balances” Dummy! But it’s like, you know, you ain’t been checking nor balancing anything!

The way you spend our future, I get the feeling you can’t “balance” a “check”book.

Salazar has at least expressed concern, but feels helpless because Pelosi isn’t making the first move…

All three of you, WAKE UP and smell the power.

You allegedly REPRESENT Colorado… THE single most important strategic area in America. The middle of the North American Continent, dudes…

That means, dummies, that there’s nothing you have to do to “earn” Federal dollars coming to Colorado. We don’t get highway or military or development grants or other funds for any “good behavior” on our part, beyond just not threatening secession…

The Penta-Goners aren’t going to cut out their intestines to spite their belly buttons. They KNOW which side of their bagel is buttered. How many mangled metaphors do I have to throw out there before you get the hint?

This area, these people, are so important to the Feds that if you told Pelosi to start Chimpeachment procedures tonight, tomorrow morning it would be back ON the table.

Now, I know that there are people employed by all three of your offices who have no other job than to read Local Political weblogs, in an effort to stay informed.

Well, Consider Yourselves Informed… And Start Doing Something.

Don’t be scared, hiding behind the lame-ass excuses like you need to make sure Colorado gets our slice of the Budget Pie. There would be no less Federal Money coming in if you walked up to the President and his cabinet and the Penta-Goners and told them to line up and take turns kissing our left testicles. In fact, they would probably throw MORE money at us in order to bribe you into getting back in line.

You have a Mandate to represent, you have the power to represent that Mandate, we the people, yeah, US, use that power. Don’t keep punking out on us.

Grow a set. You don’t seem to realize just how disgusting it is to watch you guys suck up to the Coward from Crawford.

Your putrid cowardice smells worse than Monument Creek on a hot day.

Fecal material update…

We know the Neo’s have been busy this past couple of weeks. They’re building up to a Perfect Storm, the crisis to top all crises, scheduled for day after tomorrow.

It’s no coincidence that GW signed the executive order for release four days ago. The one that sets ALL the legal frameworks for Martial Law.

He’s thrown down the gauntlet, once and finally. In the face of what is probably the most meaningful Peace and Impeachment rallies ever.

When Cindy and all get to the mall Monday morning, I think they’re going to be met with troops. Lots of troops.

I almost expect to see Congressmen being arrested en masse.

That State Of Emergency decree from Tuesday says it all.

The bit at the end that says flatly that there will be NO remedy or appeal.

That the prospective victims of the Purge will have NO recourse to the courts.

I personally think The Chimp is going to lose his ASS, to go along with his mind, but my brothers, we also aren’t going to win much.

We haven’t, in America, “reaped the whirlwind” like this in over a hundred and fifty years.

Not to be discouraged, or discouraging. At least some of us will make it through to the other side.

Peace, for as long as it lasts, y’all.

meet you at the barricades…
