Spank a Vet with a warm fuzzy Attaboy

For those who think that the Peace people dishonor the veterans, think a bit on what the most prominent campaigns has to offer in the way of humiliation. One of the “new and improved” corporate motivational methods is called “peer recognition” because research showed that workers don’t want to actually be, you know, adequately paid for our labor which enriches our bosses and impoverishes us. No, we want the empowerment of “recognition” for our good deeds. Say (and this happens far too often to be hypothetical) you have an innovation that saves your company many times your annual salary. What does the boss do to reward you?

First he patents your innovation and declares it corporate intellectual property, then gives you an award ceremony where he more or less pats your head and tells you “Attaboy!” which those English speakers who own dogs might recognize. There’s even an award letter, usually hand-written by your supervisor, saying “Attaboy!” and sometimes a Warm Fuzzy, which is a recognition pin that looks kind of like a piece of pocket lint or a dust-bunny from under a desk. How special, right? Your peers get to recognize that your contribution made the boss wealthier and as a reward you get treated like a dog in front of God and everybody. In the Military, the ultimate enforcement arm of the Corporate Empire, you get something called a “medal” or a “service ribbon” and there’s even a medal for not getting arrested for a year. Seriously.

This type of manipulative behavior is as old as the idea of organized military. A pay and benefits raise would be a lot more meaningful than a piece of brass or maybe silver with a recycling value of maybe a buck. But gosh darn it, that would be Too Expensive. So the Corporates, the sole beneficiaries of Military Action, get to go even further with the “Thank A Vet” campaign, they get their publicly subsidized (corporate welfare) non-employees to do a really dangerous job, people who are being robbed of THEIR essential rights and freedoms in the name of making Americans (or at least their corporate owners) Free (to take all the resources of the subjugated nations and kill anybody who resists) tend to fight back. Throw airplanes at “our” buildings and such.

Add in that the equipment the military uses, at great public expense and huge private profits to the Corporates, is usually dangerous in itself. Take Depleted Uranium, (please) which makes a steel shell more massive in less space. Those of you who understand ballistics would appreciate that and those who don’t, study it. It’s simple Newtonian physics. With a titanium tip and an explosive charge it can go through any armor. “Terror” groups who are targeted by, say, American or British tanks realize this and if they can obtain an intact round (one that didn’t get smashed or exploded) will re-load it and send it back. The uranium, the heaviest naturally occurring element, has value especially in small pieces to be used in a “dirty bomb”. (The Corporates, natural born and then trained Terrorists themselves, unleash “dirty bombs” on Americans every damn day, witness the Toxic Waste Dump “Gold Hill Mesa” being sold as median priced McMansion real estate right here on the West Side of Colorado Springs.)

It’s also poisonous in the same way that mercury, lead and white arsenic are poisonous. A whole list of metals heavier than iron in fact.

Instead of paying the soldiers who contracted DU poisoning in the past few wars, the Publicly Funded enforcement arm of the Corporates, the Pentagon, denounced them as frauds, malingerers and punished them.

Thanks, Vet!

The same with Agent Orange. The Army investigators and lawyers (in Colorado that’s pronounced “liars”, true story) said something really scary about that, and it’s scary because it’s true. “The Military uses a vast array of chemicals to maintain the ‘safety’ of the bases” and coupled that with the truly chilling “there’s no significant difference between those exposed to Agent Orange and those soldiers who were not, in relation to cancers.”

True. Agent Orange is a weed killer, on base they can’t afford to have high brush, grass, weeds and trees. So they poison them. They also can’t have animals wandering around, snakes, the rodents on which the snakes feed, skunks, foxes, cats, dogs, or the local equivalents Bugs too. And of course birds. A bird being hit by an aircraft can seriously ruin the day for the pilot. And cost the Corporate Overlords a pretty penny for each (not really, the Corporates who gain the most from Military Action pay the least taxes, it’s the Taxpayers who pay).

And that parenthetical statement says a lot…

See, the “Thank A Vet” campaign, much lauded as Corporate Generosity, there’s a reason Corporate gift-giving is so well documented.

Because they don’t actually “give” the money or services. They deduct them from their taxes. Then do like they did in August and whine, snivel and wring their hands over the Deficit.

The “Thank A Vet” program, the “You are not forgotten” POW flags that line the pockets of Ross Perot and his butt-buddies like John McCain, publicly funded, most of them double-dipped public funds because they’re sold to municipalities. Can you think of a single government building that isn’t flying one of those retarded flags? And it’s based on a lie too, the Hanoi government turned over all the prisoners of war they were holding back in 1975. Notwithstanding all the Chuck Norris, Steven Seagal, Jean-Claud van Damm, Sylvester Stallone and other non-veterans-who-portray-soldiers-in-the-proud-tradition-of-Ronald Reagan-George Bush-and-John Wayne making a lot of money providing the propaganda that sells the flags.

Speaking of “double dipping” and George Bush, as in Bush the Elder, when he attained the presidency he ended “double dipping” meaning getting both CHAMPUS and Medicare benefits. Way to Thank A Vet, George!
My grandfather who had recently passed away had told me that I should have stayed in for the full twenty years because the Military would take good care of me in my old age. Yeah, right.

His widow, my Grandma, died penniless in a nursing home, her Social Security and Medicare benefits signed over to the home. Way To Thank A Vet, Reaganite Sucks!

The current wrangling over whether or not the Workers who EARNED the benefits of Social Security, SSI, Medicaid, etc… should actually receive them, with the theme that only the Rich deserve or even need to have leisure, discretionary income, health care, all the goodies that separate the industrialized world from the Third World… and the rest of us only need a warm fuzzy Attaboy!

George Bush the Chimpleton, by the way, actually went one step further in demeaning the people we’re supposed to pat on the head and tell them “Good Boy! Who’s a good boy? You’re a good boy, yes you are!”

He actually rubbed the head of a double amputee veteran in a photo-opportunity propaganda session at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

The veteran was a Black man as well, the racist connotations of rubbing the head of a black person are well known, but it’s so God-damn Plantation Ignorant that even people in TEXAS don’t do it.

Keep your thanks, I’d rather have the money due me. I didn’t stay in the military long enough to get anything but a free grave when I die, but my very poorly paid service to the Corporations in the private “workforce” (they don’t even call us Human Resources anymore, how’s that for recognition?) wherein they tore my right foot half off while taking 5 times what they paid me, that in itself earns entitlements Due Wages. Just, you know, I realize I ain’t going to be paid.

Soylent Green is PEOPLE!

War costs many times what Pentagon reported, Surprise.

We’ve been told, you know, that the total spending on the Wars Of Conquest in the Bananastans was “only” a Trillion dollars. For those who don’t visualize numbers very well, that’s a million times a million. Using the largest standard bill in U.S. Currency, the $100, it would take a suitcase to hold a million dollars, and it would weigh just over 22 pounds, ten kilograms. (Each bill weighs a gram, 10,000 bills… hey, people in the drug trade know that, it’s easier to weigh a million dollars than count it. That shit from Scarface where they had a counting machine, pure fiction. Dope dealers use their scales for more than just weighing out the product.)
Other estimates are 3.7 trillion. That’s substantially more. Then there’s more realistic estimates that range from 5 Trillion up to 8 Tera-bux. That would be from estimating the costs + “over-runs” like syphoning off a few million suitcases full of Benjamins, of construction projects given with no-bid contracts to companies like Halliburton, which has a lot of connections to the Bush Family and the former President of Vice, Richard “dickless” Cheney.
But they wouldn’t rip us off, no, not possible. I could barely type that snark-asm without becoming violently ill.
“The debt crisis has been a game changer in terms of defense spending,” said Laura Peterson, a national security analyst at Taxpayers for Common Sense, a nonpartisan budget watchdog. “It used to be that asking how much the wars cost was unpatriotic. The attitude going into the war is you spend whatever you cost. Now maybe asking is more patriotic.”
How was that funded without raising taxes? Bonds.

Bonds which pay 10% annually. Which means the interest is going to exactly match the principal this coming quarter.
So that makes the cost to the taxpayers exactly twice what it would have cost with a pay-as-you-go system. Because the Rich Bitches like CheneyBush aren’t going to let the American People get out of our obligation to line their pockets. And they’re not going to tax their Rich Bitch Buddies either, they’ve already made that point clear. Instead they’re going to blame the poorest people, those of us who control less than 1% of the total wealth, for their own little Oopsie moment, and tax us accordingly. Cut Momma’s Social Security. Slash pay and benefits so we’ll have less raw income with which to pay more money than all of us collectively won’t see in several lifetimes of Minimum Slavery.
Those of us “Lucky Duckies” who don’t make enough money to pay income tax.

It seems that every time Class Warfare rears its ugly head, the guns are pointed at the Working class and away from the Parasite Class.

It’s worth noting that within a year the first use of a machine gun (different from a Gatling gun) by the United States Army was against U.S. civilians at the Ludlow Massacre, and IWW organizer Joe Hill was blown away at Salt Lake City by a firing squad.

A mother’s day message for the RepubliKlan

I mean, aside from your party lock step voting to cancel Medicare and Social Security for your own mommas as well as ours… nice to see your penchant for Human Sacrifice is still strong, except of course that you’re not going to actually sacrifice YOURSELVES.
But you know how y’all like to say, especially the Libertarian faction and TeaPotties? That you might not agree with what we say but you’ll fight to the death to defend our right to say it?
So, when Lauren Valle was stomped down for criticizing your hero Rand Paul, by three of his Koward Kentucky Komrades, with hundreds of other KKK disciples of “liberty” standing around to make sure nobody interrupted their sick sadistic fun and Rand Paul himself, nobly of course refusing to either “fight to the death” or even tell his chickenshit disciples to stop?
Yeah, that one. And of course Sarah Palin telling the people not to sit down and not to shut up while she was having the Police arrest people and violently drag them from her rally because they didn’t sit down or shut up?
Of course y’all didn’t even do anything to protest that, did you? I can understand that you’re AFRAID of your Komrades because, you know, when you get in your little ol’ Posse you can be pretty vicious.
But to stand up and LIE about how much you’ll risk to fight for “freedom” or “liberty” well…
Yo Mommas must have been so very proud of you.
Until you killed them and ate them….

Hillary says “Free the internet from political control”

And neglects the NeuenRealpolitik of Corporate control of Politics in America and its vassal states, and the strange silence on her part about Net Neutrality, just, you know, allow Corporate Overlords to control every aspect of the Internet through”free” Market business decisions. As though the Internet wasn’t developed at PUBLIC expense. Kind of like the Military are PUBLICLY funded institutions but somehow, all the profits from their Corporate Warfare go to the same very small group of very rich Thieves.

AT&T, Microsoft, the “Baby Bells”, IBM, Intel… they were very handsomely paid for their “contributions” to developing the Internet. But somehow, I just don’t believe that their engineers, the ones who did all the work, got paid a double digit percentage (> = 10%) of the amount paid to the tiny minority of shareholders who own most of the shares.

Remember Ross Perot? Made $20bn by having the GOVERNMENT provide the research, the recruitment and training of his Data Management team, the equipment to build “his” corporation, EDS… but it was “his” so-called leadership that was the most valuable asset.

Even then, after he immediately sold the company for the aforementioned twenty thousand x a million dollars, fudges on his income tax. Oh, and it was to build the Social Security Medicare database, he being an outspoken critic of Non-Privatized Social Security.

More recently, he got a fat cat contract, no bids, to provide the data management through the company he no longer officially owns, and his Country Club/Military Industrial Complex buddy former Gov. Bill Owens, the term “thick as thieves” applies here… to “manage” the Electronic Benefits Transfers… Medicaid and Food Assistance and AFDC and some very sore spots for Republicans, Child Protective Services… (Why do “conservatives” hate American kids?)

When the system, no bid, patched together and really shoddy, experienced several hiccups during the first 6 months that cost Human Beings Their Irreplaceable Lives, Bill Owens laughed it off with a militaristic quote that it was like launching a new Aircraft Carrier, “you gotta run it for a wile to get all the bugs out of it.” Ignore the fact that a carrier is designed to KILL large numbers of people.

Basically, it’s the notion that “Why should we let the lives of PEASANTS interfere with our profit margins?”

Bill Owens has yet to answer for how much he made in kickbacks from EDS and his old friend Ross Perot.

Hillary has yet to answer for how much she’s making in kickbacks from AT&T, Comcast, Microsux etc over her effective blocking of Net Neutrality.

But these are the flag-carriers for “freedom”. And somehow in such a high position of moral authority that they can tell other countries what to do.

They never vote themselves off the lifeboat….

There’s a Psych101 example that just about everybody who experiences college in America would find familiar, the Lifeboat Question. Setup for it is, you’re on a lifeboat, with absolutely no hope of rescue, You have passengers on board whose needs exceed the supply of fresh water and food. You have a baby, an elderly professor, a laborer, … that kind of thing.

Then you’re told to group up and discuss who you would kill. Drown, Toss from the lifeboat.
The discussions get long and involved but somehow a few basic facts never get mentioned.
Like:

The one person who NOBODY tosses off the boat is himself.
If there’s no hope of rescue or landfall with the extra person on board, there’s not really any chance without him either.
If you’re in a lifeboat then you’re in a shipping lane, unless every vessel on the sea suddenly vanished, you’re very likely to have one come near.
If every ship on the ocean has vanished, then so, apparently, has civilization.
You and the fellow lifeboaters would be, as far as you know, the only living humans left.
It would be up to you to restore any semblance of civilized behavior.
Yet to do it, according to the TRICK question, you would first have to make a human sacrifice.
What kind of a sick society can you build on that foundation?
Hint: it’s all around us.

Right now the debate in Budget Committees, especially those in the House and thus, top heavy with so-called “conservatives”, is centered on who to toss out of the lifeboat first.
I say “first” because that sort of thing is damnably hard to stop once it gets started.

Their figures and calculations all pointedly leave in THEIR source of income, the Military Industrial complex which is the only driving force left for Capitalism. They’re not tossing themselves out of the lifeboat.

It’s more like get in the canoes and take grandma out, put her on an ice-floe and smear her all over with seal meat to draw the polar bears.

Then row away with all the villagers chanting traditional Leave-grandma-to-die songs.

While the rest of the world celebrates Armistice Day…

We have Veterans Day, or, as I like to put it, “your recruiter lied to you and society used your entire childhood to condition you to accept that, so to make up for getting screwed like that we’ll have a postal holiday and a parade for you”.
Just, you know, don’t actually expect those benefits they promised you BEFORE you signed the enlistment or induction papers, and try to keep in mind as every politician with access to a microphone is praising your decision to “serve the country”, that the renaming of the day as Veterans Day was a deliberate ploy to try to ease the sting of the use of United States soldiers, led by Doug McArthur, Dwight Eisenhower and Patton, to fire on an encampment, daily parade and daily petition to President Hoover to actually honor the promised benefits to Spanish War and World War 1 veterans.
Instead Hoover gave their pensions to Investment Bankers, like his party and their TeaBag affiliates are promising to do AGAIN, only now they’ve got Social Security to give to the Investment Bankers along with them.
They’ve also got enough RepubliFascists who ran under the false flag of Democracy selling your benefits to the Banksters under the equally false flag of “Bipartisanship”.
But, you’re supposed, under the agenda set by these Thieving Murdering Bastards, to remember your fallen comrades… instead of remembering your LIVING Comrades, and yourselves, and your families, who are getting bent over the Proverbial Sink and preparing to be ass-raped by the Thieves once again.

Capital in Action, minimum wage.

Just heard a commercial for a “rent to own” place. One where the payments on a laptop computer totaled two and a half grand for a 450 dollar machine.
A 700 dollar (at the high end price) refrigerator, 159 bux a month for two years, 3816 dollars.
That’s a 400% markup.
So, what’s the Big Deal about Minimum Wage? Why shouldn’t those of us who rent out our labor have to do it not at a profit, not even at a “break-even” rate, but below the actual cost for us to produce our labor? If I were to walk into the Rent-to-own place and demand to only pay $700 for the $700 refrigerator, would I be legitimately allowed to walk out the door, (with a rented dolly and rented pickup of course) with the refrigerator? How about if I only offered $500? Surely he could survive on $20 a month for 2 years.
No? What if I got some Publicly Paid Goons to force him to negotiate on my terms, the way Capital always does when they’re confronted with the silly-ass demands of Labor that the Workers actually be paid an adequate wage?
See, every time this question gets put to the Capitalists, they come off with a duplicate of Squealers Speech from Animal Farm about how the duties of Leadership are so much more strenuous than the duties of Followers that the Pig Leaders deserve, nay, NEED, to have the windfall apples, the milk and to sleep in the farmhouse.

I “trot” that one out a lot because Capitalists seem to believe they own the story. Also the Corporate Welfare aspect of them using the publicly funded police and army to negotiate their coercive labor deals for them.

And to coerce suppliers of the raw materials, like foreign nations who produce Oil, minerals and even produce the Produce (like vegetables, coffee, bananas…)
And then have the balls to say that they worked for their money, and don’t owe the workers anything.

Why, we should be so proud to work for them that we’ll pay them for the privilege.. oh, wait, we already do.

Jane Norton, Republican, Tea Bag, liar, warmonger pig, thief, corporate whore

Stated in her campaign commercial that Obamacare, not even implemented, is the cause of the Trillion Dollar Federal Deficit. Not, of course, anything to do with the Police State budget, some of which is “classified”, nor with the Extended Police State Imperial Storm Troopers with their hi-tech Murder Gadgets, taking over foreign nations for the profit of the Corporations who own the political system including Ms Norton, the TeaBags, both major parties, (the Republicans are publicly and Blatantly, proudly, Servants of the Corporate Regime)

Nothing to do with the Ecological Destruction of America and the rest of the world, which combined with the ever-expanding War on Everything, and the natural tendencies of Corporate Officers, like Ms Norton, to be thieves, combined with the opportunities for Massive Corporate Theft provided by the Wars promoted by the TeaBags like Ms Norton, thus an Economic disaster that can be best described as a “death spiral”. Couldn’t possibly be any of that. No, it has to be modest slowdown of the Reaganite Corporate Thief Steamroller. Not stopping it or reversing it, just slowing it down is the cause of the Deficit.

Remember the Scream Sessions at Acacia Park and the Rigged Town Hall Meetings from last summer and fall? About Socialized Health Care being “death panels and cutting Grandma off from Social Security and Medicare”? The TeaBag and (other) Republican candidates across the nation are pushing for cuts in …

Social Security and Medicare. Nothing new there, Ronald Reagan and the rest of the Right Wing Fanatics have opposed even the barest minimum of Social Security and Medicare since the beginning. Now they feel they have the opportunity to Slash Social Security using Health Care (not yet implemented) as their Screaming Point. And Ms Norton is one of their really loud Bleating Sheep.

To them it’s not a personal assault on the Poor, nothing special, they don’t hate the Poorest any more than they do Their Own Grandma. Equal Opportunity Hatred, the worst and most virulent kind.

Petty bureaucrat resents being called… The Holocaust denials of Larry DeWitt

Internment camp for Japanese-Americans, Granada Relocation Center, Amache Colorado
In the face of Ward Churchill’s vindication in a Colorado court, and now hearing support for him by fellow academics, Wingnut Holocaust Deniers are rallying behind whichever colleague will grab their dunce baton. The latest denier is academic aspirant, Social Security Administration archivist Larry DeWitt, who’s been nursing a masters from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County campus. His master’s thesis was about little known SSA efforts to mitigate The Wartime Internments & Other “Restrictive Governmental Actions.”

Example: his caption under a photograph of quarters at the Manzanar relocation camp reads: “Figure 43: While these internees do indeed have a bare lightbulb overhead, their living conditions are not as primitive as the rhetoric of some historians may imply.”

DeWitt has been an Agency Historian for the SSA since 1995, in which capacity he cobbled a history of the department, with a view it appears, to lay a groundwork for its privatization. You can read more about DeWitt at larrydewitt.net, a website “created as part of coursework in the graduate program of the History Department at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC).”

But he calls it: A Miscellany of History, Philosophy and Public Policy: A portal to four websites containing the work of historian and public policy scholar Larry DeWitt.

Most recently, DeWitt assumes to be an authority on scholarship, opining on the History News Network website: Ward Churchill: He’s Baaack! Here’s his opening line: “Well, that embarrassment for the liberal academy—Ward Churchill—is back in the news again.”

A recent article for Coloquio: Revista Cultural was about Iraq: “Doing the right thing the wrong way.”

Are DeWitt’s writing unremarkable? Yes, but for a federal agency that has proven to be vulnerable to partisan attack, I think DeWitt’s positions are ominously charged. Here are some more articles:

Obama talks of lowering the deficit even as he does the opposite

ponzi-schemeObama sure knows how to talk out of both sides of his mouth at once! And that’s exactly what makes him and the Democratic Party so dangerous to the American people. With the Republican Party of Open Violence everybody knows what’s coming down, but with the Democrats it’s quite different.

Here’s the latest Obama-con as the mass media hits us with… Obama Seeks to Halve Deficit to Half Trillion Per Year by 2013 all timed to hit us with headlines across the nation in the corporate dailies’ Sunday issues today.

So how is Obama, with as corporate loaded a Cabinet as ever was, going to reverse course from his new give outs to the corporate big guys, and now tax them as he says he will? How is he going to cut the military spending even as he sends 17,000 or so new troops into Afghanistan? How is he going to tax corproations more even as he gives out more tax refunds to everybody right away? Barack Obama surely is the guy who can talk out both sides of his mouth at one and the same time, isn’t he? It’s amazing! Slick Willie and his triangulation abacus had nothing ever at all that the duo team of Barack and Hillary we now are stuck with for 4 years can’t match and even double in shenanigans.

We should all be very concerned with this double talk. Barack is setting the deck for a ruling class attack on what the rich call ‘entitlements’, but what we know as social programs… programs like Social Security… for just one example. Yes, General Barack is not going to cut the real billion ton gorilla entitlement program that is known as the US military, but is going to go after social programs, even as he double talks to us about expanding them! We are being scammed. The Democratic Party with Barack Obama at the helm might just be running the biggest ponzi scheme of them all on the American public?

How does it all work? Well just study the cartoon picture that leads this commentary off. Say one thing and do another.

America’s biggest entitlement program is the Pentagon and Obama will cut Social Security before he will ever cut the military budget down to size

Obama is primed to carry his con game forward. Obama turns to budget, health care, entitlements …Notice how the military is missing? Why is that? The Pentagon simply is America’s biggest entitlement program and the biggest welfare program in the history of the Universe.

Obama has shown no desire other than to initiate a few cosmetic changes of the For Profit Medical System, while giving hundreds of billions to the banks and financial ponzi operators. With Social Security, he cannot keep it even as it currently is which is a program shot full of holes, if he is going to send more troops off to war and allow the bloated Pentagon Welfare Scam to continue as always. Watch out Social Security which there is little of to begin with. Do you feel socially secure now? If not, then join hundreds of millions of other Americans.

George Will’s vocabulary outshines him

George Will Hitler bowtieCOLORADO SPRINGS- Some people look smaller in person than they do on TV. Many of us only know George Will from newsprint, but in person he’s an organ grinder’s monkey, amusingly agile, if a little threatening, but basically smallish and tethered to somebody asking for money.

Maybe it was my perspective from the steep audience seating in the South Theater of CC’s new Cornerstone Arts Center. Maybe it was looking down at George as he walked in circles between folksy baseball anecdotes, over-simplified economics and patronizing criticism of the American culture of entitlement.

I wanted to ask how a gentleman of his obvious acuity got any pleasure from addressing audiences like they were idiots. People who applauded him, by the way, and laughed at the slightest old joke. “Half of all students are of below average intelligence.” Hahahahaha. “I’m glad you got that one.” Hahahahaha.

I remember a professor I had in an advanced math class who used to berate us undergrads for the time he had to waste with us. Tonight’s audience was filled to overflow with Colorado Springs’ better-heeled hayseeds, but George Will seemed perfectly at home.

Will’s “reflections on the 2008 election” consisted of the usual horse race stats about which states have to be won by whom in order to satisfy the probabilities of precedent. “History is consistent after all,” he was attributing this adage to someone I think, “right up until the moment it isn’t.” Hahahaha. Numbers and groups of states, etc. The next president may again win the necessary electoral votes and loose the popular vote.

As a gesture to the college age portion of tonight’s audience, Will offered that all the statistical stars were lining up for a Democratic win in November, but to his contemporaries in the theater Will later confided that he didn’t consider Obama ready to lead. He also opined that Sarah Palin would provide a refreshing change to Washington DC.

Thankfully the Pulitzer Prize rewardee soon wrapped up his election year remarks and got back on the horse he undoubtedly had been commissioned to ride. Scold Americans for their entitlement mentality and convince them to privatize Social Security. There followed a Libertarian mocking of all social responsibility, and an incredible stretching of credulity seeing the absence of ready rebuttal.

Take for example, Big Pharma. George Will applauds Big Pharma and the obscene profits they reap. Those profits are only appropriate, he says, considering the tremendous costs the pharmaceuticals bear with R&D and the circumnavigation of regulations. Really George? Profit is the product of income minus expense. You want to count the expenses twice? One might compare profit against expense in the light of risk, but wouldn’t that be to beg the definition of “obscene” profits, considering none have reported obscene losses?

Will chastised the growth of the Agricultural Department citing the narrowing ratio of Ag employees to American Farmers, without referencing the precipitous rise of Big Agra and the eclipse of family farms.

Of course, entitlement programs were the chief evil, while no mention was made to corporate entitlements or bailouts or subsidized banking or the federal deficit, EXCEPT where Americans will obviously have to borrow from the next generations to finance Medicare and Social Security.

While George Will admonished Americans for wanting more from their government, he expressed not a single curiosity for how every other developed nation is able to care for their sick, their poor, and their elderly. In fact, Will compared West Germany to East Germany as an example of Capitalism’s proven superiority to Socialism, without observing that modern Germany’s social system is not the heartless one he advocates for here.

Will got lots of applause, and fielded no challenging questions. A last answer, defined for me, the nature of his limited mindset. Will was asked if a sales tax mightn’t be a more equitable substitute for the income tax. Never mind it being regressive, the suggestion certainly pleased the crowd. George Will explained that a sales tax would have to be in excess of 20% to provide the same monies. This would be unfeasible, Will pronounced. But he didn’t say it was because neither the poor, nor the working class, nor the middle class could afford a 20% rise in the cost of living. No, Will described how buying a $500,000 home would mean an additional $100,000 in tax. Unthinkable he said. And he accuses Obama of being elitist. Hahahahaha.
