Colorado Extraction Resistance claims responsibility for gas balloon attack on gas frackers

DENVER, COLORADO- Organizers of an annual oil and gas industry conference held at the Grand Hyatt on Monday and Tuesday tried to prevent public interruption of their let's frack Colorado discussion. They tried to ignore protesters outside. They revoked the admissions passes granted to activists who wanted to attend the open segment of the conference designed for public consumption. They didn't count on the COLORADO EXTRACTION RESISTANCE to successfully negotiate the heightened security and deliver gas balloons to gas frackers convening in the ballroom. Attached to the balloons, which swiftly lifted to the ceiling neatly beyond reach, were noisemakers which accentuated the shouts of the Extraction Resisters shouting "Ban Fracking Everywhere!" Most of the interlopers escaped but one was manhandled, his head slammed against the wall, and arrested for wielding balloons. In a dispiriting twist, attendees conspiring to frack the shit out of Colorado were not arrested, though the gases which leak from their wells pose a more eminent public threat than helium. The successful interruption prompted a spirited protest outside, where conference attendees were heckled and passersby were warned to pay special care as they passed the Grand Hyatt, at that moment sheltering eco-terrorists from citizens arrest. (UPDATE: Now read their account and full DIY instructions!)

Wise up Colorado Springs only YOU can stop fracking

Heads up Colorado Springs environmentalists! If you're thinking that among your colleagues, someone's got your back on hydraulic fracturing, your count is off by one. NOT ONE SINGLE local organization or leader has taken the position that oil and gas fracking must be stopped, or even can be stopped! Did you miss that memo? I'm guessing they haven't issued a distress signal among their membership, because, um, fracking's "inevitable" right?! Green-minded residents, and Manitou tourists we've come across while holding NO FRACKING signs are incredulous at the thought that local officials would permit fracking, I've even been assured that local eco-celebs are on the case. NOPE. If you've got the phone tree, give them a call. If someone's going to stop fracking, it's going to be you.

Obama sez: “The nation of Libya now belongs to OUR oil companies”

Actually he said "to the Libyan people". They're also saying not a single (American and therefore more important than any Libyans) life was lost. Yet another mass murder for profit. Meanwhile, Libya had been the main contributor of humanitarian aid to Africa whereas the AMERICAN "aid" has largely been in the form of weapons, killing, let them starve, take all their raw materials, and kill anybody who objects. The funding for the Libyan aid came from Libyan oil, nationalized and the REAL reason for the attacks on Libya over the past 4 decades. Can't have any nation own the resources of that nation, that would be socialism and capitalism can't survive unless they violently stomp out any other economic model. Capital is NOT a self sustaining system, it has to be subsidized, at public expense, with war and other forms of Murder. Capitalism takes more public money than socialism ever could and gives it to arrogant rich Socially Retarded Animated Sphincters like the Koch Brothers. Now that the oil is going to be given, more corporate welfare, to BP and Exxon and Shell, where is the aid money to Africa going to come from? Sure as Hell isn't going to be from the Oil Companies. They only take, and never give back. Fucking THIEVES who get other people doing their murders and robberies for their profit. It's a shameful day for America, one of many.

Incumbent pig Lysa Merkoskee will not be dislodged from corporatist trough

As oil industry crony Lisa Murkowski retains her Alaska senate seat, did she "make history" by being the first official in 50 years to succeed as a write-in candidate, or did she make history by demonstrating that incumbents can beat every last determined effort to throw them out? The otherwise incorrigibly-Republican Murkowsky was rejected in her own party's primary, so she defied her constituents by running under the stealth Incumbent Party, DC's most heavily funded lobby arm, representing corporate polluters, profiteers, pillagers and other profaners of Democracy, enlisting the help of even Alaska's poorest spellers to ensure that nothing will dislodge America's corrupt Mandarins.

BP Says “top-kill” worked, but drilling wells right next to it

Supposedly to ease the pressure. How about THIS supposition instead. BP trashed the ocean very thoroughly, the bottom-up killoff of marine life is in progress, the species that are being more than merely decimated provide the food for every other life form. There's an investigation supposedly happening in the area of the well collapse. An investigation BP has stalled for months by "fumbling" around "trying" to stop the oil. Knowing full well that in doing so they were stomping all around the Crime Scene. Which is what it IS. Even cutting out the obvious crime of destroying what looks like the damn how to put this? OK so I'll put it where a Far Right Profit-is-God Money Worshiper like Rush Limbaugh can understand. Economic crime in the theft of Trillions. Put a dollar value on what's going to happen to just the Seafood Industry. The fisheries are trashed and going to get worse. Rush was on the air just before the non-enforcement of existing regulations and cutting even those down to where they wouldn't make a difference... WHINING that regulations to protect some of the species that form the web of life in the sea would limit "Sport Fishing". And screaming like the bitch that he is about how "all those poor Fishing Boat outiftters and Fishing Tour providers were going to be losing money". Where's the concern for them NOW, on the far right? And that's just one small facet of fisheries management. The corals, not pretty rocks on the bottom but the living coral, the organisms that build the reefs. Endangered by a shrimping practice that was destroying the reefs, killing the living coral, and in a chain reaction, was killing off the shrimp. Not So? Read on... One of the processes was to promote the growth of organisms that the coral normally feed on. Some of which are to shrimp what anthrax is to humans. And of course the whole food web. Maybe food web is too complex for a Right Wing so-called "mind" to fathom.<<nautical joke. So we go with their more familiar linear Food Chain. Which goes straight up, never sideways and of course, never down. The part of the "bottom" supposedly magically regenerates itself, and placing one species on the "top" is kind of chauvinistic. Which affected every other aspect of the food linear "chain" including the Sport Fishermen that Rush boo-hooed about so much. Oh, that's right, it's Glenn Beck who does the fake crying. The process is just beginning, the vast majority of the oil is still in the water, combined with chemical dispersants... which are Toxic. Hidden away where most people won't see it. Trillions of dollars later they'll see it. And of course, in the Right wing so-called "mind" nothing that happens in the sea could ever possibly have any effect on the Food Chain web of life on land. According to their screed, events on LAND don't affect life on land. Just ask the bees, bats and frogs before they all

Media disguise spill it’s 42 times larger

Confused about how much oil is spilling from BP's offshore Deepwater Horizon catastrophe? When British Petroleum was asked, there was no spill, then an admitted manageable leak which TV pundits assured would produce a "sheen." Viewers who thought they heard that the Coast Guard discovered the flow had become 42,000 gallons a day can be excused for their confusion when the accepted figure became 5,000. Because now the unit of measurement is barrels. The scale of the disaster suffered such an inflation that the PR currency had to be devalued. Never mind that gas is still priced by the gallon. BP officials insist the size of the spill is irrelevant, their damage mitigation will be unwavering. Let's hope their standard for what constitutes contamination is not devalued. 5,000 barrels, by the way equals 210,000 gallons.

Tim DeChristopher on Democracy Now!

Tim DeChristopher, a University of Utah disobedient civilian, was interviewed on Democracy Now! today. Amy Goodman asked him what relevance Edward Abbey had to his move to disrupt the bidding process for oil and gas leases in Utah's red rock country. His answer: I think that the most powerful relevance of Edward Abbey to what I did was his statement and really his expression of the idea that sentiment without action is the ruin of the soul, because I think that’s what I had seen throughout my work as an environmentalist previous to this, where I had seen this massive crisis and massive challenge that we were facing in climate change, and I saw that my efforts of writing the letter here and there and riding my bike and things like that weren’t really aligning. My actions weren’t aligning with my sentiment of how serious this threat was, and I knew that. And so, I felt that kind of conflict within myself. And when I stepped it up at this auction and was putting myself out there and winning all these parcels was really the first time I felt like my sentiment—or I felt like my actions were aligning with my sentiment. And I felt this tremendous sense of calm when I started doing that, because for the first time that conflict within me was gone, and I knew that when I was, you know, standing up and risking going to prison, my actions really were aligning with how big of a crisis this is. A grand jury indicted Tim DeChristopher Wednesday afternoon with two felony counts of violating the Federal Onshore Oil and Gas Leasing Act. If convicted, Tim could face up to 10 years in the slammer. This, despite the fact that Ken Salazar cancelled the contested leases because the government failed to follow its own procedures, but more on that later! For now, tune in to KRCC at 7 to hear Tim (and then Noam Chomsky) on Democracy Now! tonight.

Shell Oil’s Green shell game

Shell Oil claims to be Green, Green, Green! Corporate Green is more like it though, yet that did not stop the oil company from running advertisements in recent years that included a picture of an oil refinery, with chimneys producing flowers and a headline that read "Don't throw anything away -- there is no away". See Shell Recycling Adverts "Misleading" -Watchdog about that nonsense. But there is yet more to the Shell Oil Green Shell game it is playing with the public. Let's visit Nigeria where Shell Oil is a big player in energy production there , shall we? There we find Shell Oil wasting billions upon billions of dollars of the world's precious and declining energy supplies, all in a way that brings back personal memories of Mobil Exxon for me! My dad worked for Mobil Oil and living in Texas as a kid, I remember all those gas flares from the refineries and oil fields. Nigeria's gas profits 'up in smoke' Yep! In Nigeria Shell Oil has gas flares going big time, all without seemingly much of a care in the world about it, too. It's a Hell of a way to be playing 'Green' company, is it not? Shell Oil is almost as Green as the US military is! Hey, the two of them go together even! Shell Oil and the Pentagon both playing a shell game with the public about supposedly being Green! Don't buy it. Don't buy any of the corporate wave of pretending to be Green. They just simply or not and never will be either. And neither will the Pentagon ever be Green either...
