If you don’t see Merry Christmas in the window, no, you don’t go in that store! The Star of David used to do that trick.

This season's War-On-Christmas email is pushing a holiday ditty whose refrain goes "If you don't see Merry Christmas in the window, then you don't go in that store." Seems like it might be easier to mark those stores with a Star of David on the window, or would that be too obviously Nazi? On the other hand, it is refreshing to see even Dumbfox recognize the imperative of targeting commerce to make your point heard. So, boycotts do work? You can see the Christmas-lovers' point of course. They'd prefer that merchants exploiting the Christmas purchasing season at least be paying lip service to Christmas and not the ever-looming Godless "Holiday" eclipse, supposed. This song reminds us "it's all about the little baby Jesus" and goes on to list all the things Christmas wouldn't be without him. Of course, half the list traces back to pagan tradition, but what to Christian Holiday-goers know of that? And the latter half goes back as far as they remember, as their grandmother and her grandmother before might remember, but no more. The commercial Christmas charts its provenance to the industrial revolution, the birth of consumer goods and marketing. Santa Claus as we recognize him stepped right off Coca-cola calendars of the last mid-century. Christmas was the religious Trojan Horse to pitch the shopping holiday to reluctant hedonists. Now the same parishioners who don't have an needle's-eye chance to get to Heaven, feel like the can pay their tithes in Christmas presents. Yes, I do think it's funny that people who abhor the prospect of disruptive economic boycotts are willing to consider it at the drop of Santa's cap. Unless of course they're satisfied that making this video viral is a shot across the bow enough. I doubt their Christmas Spirit has any room for Lenten restraint. Oddly enough, one of their potential boycott targets, and mine, has hung banners in its outlets to announce they will be open for Christmas, introducing a delectable dilemma. Starbucks says Merry Christmas in the window, so it's exempt from this singing email picket, yet it disrespects Christmas by working through it. What do you do? I answer that one unequivocally. Yes, boycott Starbucks. They fund Israeli settlements in the Occupied Territories. That may be somewhat directly related to their celebrating Hanukkah not Christmas, but that's NO KIND OF REASON to boycott a business. If you want to boycott a store because it's not Christian, take it up with the Anti-Defamation League. Leave bigotry to the Zionists.

Dutch set to ban Kosher and Halal food

on a pretense of "animal rights". So, do the non-kosher methods of killing an animal measure up? Raising the animals in factory/warehouse type "farms"? See, the Wreligious Wrong in Amerikkka ought to be on alert for that. AIPAC among them. "Oh, no, Jonah, you're wrong, they would never round me and my family up for a "Camp" out, for we are Baptist/Pentecostal/Catholic/Jewish what the hell ever... and the Homeland Security measures are only being used against Muslims". Some of the AIPACkers are probably going to be upset about this next statement, the first groups the Gestapo rounded up, first Anarchists, then Gypsies, then Communists, then mentally ill people, then homosexuals and THEN they started eyeing the blacks and Jews. Remember, as Goebels and Hitler said "Germany is and always will be a Christian Nation!"... but only if you happen to be the "Right Kind" of Christian. Those who have been riding along in the same posse with the Falwell Klan, a few years ago would have been the right time to hit the panic button and bail out. NOW they've got your address, phone number, the names of everybody in your households, where your kids go to school... How much money you make, Who your closest friends are. What, you thought those pastoral letters from the 700 Klub were just them being nice to you? Get a freakin' grip already. When the Pilgrims came to Amerikkka they were seeking religious freedom, sure... FOR THEMSELVES. The same with the Puritans. Before they burned witchcraft suspects in Massachusetts, they burned Bibles and banned the budding Evangelical movement. Funny thing about that, not funny ha-ha because it just AIN'T gonna make anybody laugh, but you know that War on Christmas bullshit they bitch about every year? And keep popping off with the names of Pilgrim and Puritan elders? They're not interchangeable, even though they lived roughly as contemporaries, both had a predilection for really stupid looking hats, didn't bathe and had a real talent for pissing off their neighbors and the government wherever they went. And they didn't celebrate Christmas. This is the kind of religious warfare that sparked the notion of Separation of Church and State. To have a Church State you'd have to set up a State Church and guess what? Chicken butt... no really guess what? It AIN'T GONNA BE YOUR CHURCH, BUBBA. Your pastor probably deluded himself while he was deluding you but Your Church Ain't Going To Be Top Dog and that's so close to a slam dunk bet that I won't have to ever change the statement. You're going to give people the impression that you're dumb and, chances are, they'll be correct. That "bridge between church and state" is a no-win game so it's no surprise that it attracted dumbasses like Bush.

9/13/02… when it once more became fashionable

To be a bigoted, racist, frightened ignorant redneck Bitch like the customer Eunice Stone at the Shoney's restaurant who dialed 9/11 on three young men who just happened to be Medical Students but also happened to be dark skinned "Arab looking" and speaking "Arabic". This from somebody who speaks no language other than English thus wouldn't recognize the difference between Arabic and ANY other language besides English. As it turned out, the only language all of them spoke was English, thus, the Mrs Stone was LYING THROUGH HER REDNECK TOOTH about them speaking anything else. The "free" press had a field day with it including absolute gems of Hate Speech by Peggy Noonan. NOONAN: [T]he Southerners eyeball the young Muslim males, and the young Muslim males feel the vibe. And they don’t like it. They resent it. Here they had two clear choices: Try to understand the emotions of the people around them—people who’ve been bruised, who’ve seen their country take a roundhouse right from history—and choose to be polite and friendly. The young Muslim males could smile and nod, for instance. This probably would have gone far in making progress between peoples, for one thing we’ve all read about the terrorists of Sept. 11 is that they never bothered to be nice. They tended to treat the Americans with whom they interacted with Sullen Dead Face—the inexpressive look young men put on so it will be hard for you to read them. Because they don’t want to be read. Because they want to convey an air of some menace. They could have introduced themselves to the waitress, mentioned they're on their way to medical school. They could have been quiet, minded their business, chatted softly. But they didn’t bother to be nice. They wanted things on their terms. So they took option two. They sensed the questioning within the gazes, and they thought it would be amusing to show these stupid and uneducated Southern people, these dumb crackers, these yokels, who was boss. You think we’re bad guys? We’ll show you bad guys. And so one of them or a few of them said the things Eunice Stone says she overheard. Talk about explosions, references to Sept. 11, talk about how Sept. 13 will be even bigger. Noonan paints an exceptionally unflattering portrait of the three medical students. (She ends up describing them as “bigots.”) But did any part of this story actually occur? Noonan has no way of knowing. In fact, she isn’t describing events and thoughts she can actually show to be true. Early on in this startling column, she describes her bizarre, corrupt method: NOONAN: I wasn’t there, but I listened to everyone who spoke of it and watched the story closely. And it’s not hard to imagine what probably happened that day at Shoney’s. “It’s not hard to imagine what probably

Bill Sparkman still dead, Murderous TeaBag SKKKulkkks still guilty

Even though their Fellow Klansmen in the KKKentucKKKy state police found them not guilty by fiat. The Nazi Pigs find their Nazi Pig Komrades to be not guilty, what a sweet setup... for Them. But not for Bill Sparkman and not for his family and not for America. Or, let's be really inclusive, the entire world. And the TeaTards, like their Parent KKKorporation, have to do it the Koward way. They can't bring themselves to physical violence unless they have the odds overwhelmingly in their favor. Such BRAVE "revolutionaries"! They are rather revolting, yes. But usually one thinks of Revolution as a rejection and an attempt to at least change the established order, not to act as a Shock-Troop Mob to try to force the Peasants back into compliance with their KKKorporate Masters. Too bad they're not ever going to Man Up and admit that's what they truly are. It's like when they wave the Southern Cross confederate battle flag, the American equivalent of the Swastika, in peoples faces and not just pretend that it's not Racism or Bigotry, but DEMAND that other people not recognize it as such. Like we're commanded to believe that Bill Sparkman committed suicide. Appropriately enough they lynched him in the county from whence the term "lynch" originated, Clay County, KY, precinct of Judge Lynch. It's not the first time they ever lynched a white man for being a "nigger lover" either. Y'all TeaTards will of course be upset by this, but what are you gonna do? Get Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck and Michelle Malkin to light a cross in my yard? You want to display the trappings of the Confederacy and the Ku Klux Klan but you get all pissy and bitchy about somebody mentioning it. Even after and especially after you've lynched American REAL Patriots.

Muslim Mommas never cry and other heinous lies

What got me started on this offering was a TV show on at midnight, only lasted (from my perspective, because the channel got changed quickly) for about two minutes. The show was about 9/11 survivors. One of them said “That’s the difference between America and everybody else... in America when there’s great tragedy and danger people band together and help each other out”. So that means the only people on the entire surface of the planet where people actually have Human Feelings is in America, and everybody else is incapable of actual humanity. Subhumans in other words. Nothing Racist about that? No Religious bigotry either, like when a Muslim preacher orating at a funeral says the deceased is in Paradise, that’s supposedly cold-hearted brainwashing and encouraging the other members of the congregation to do suicide bombings. When a sold-out Christian Priest, military OR civilian, says that a fallen American soldier is in Heaven, that’s of course not anything to do with glorifying the war that killed the soldier or saying that the cause was just, and righteous, and ordained by God, is it? Especially when so many of these Sold-out Priests actually DO come right out and say that their version of Jihad/Crusade really IS just, righteous, ordained by God... A “Holy” War in other words. The Anti-Islam Pro-Holy War Media break out a doll allegedly given to Palestinian kids with bombs, guns, swords and other knives, with a faction-specific headscarf identifying the doll as being Hamas. and of course, like the funerary eulogy, is “brainwashing the kids to become suicide bombers” while the U.S. version thereof, pictured here, is NOT brainwashing the kids to be Fighter Pilots, Bomber Pilots, Drone Manipulators, Marines, Soldiers and Seamen who use large numbers of heavily armed comrades and high tech weaponry to Kill People using guns, bombs, knives and torture techniques applied to handcuffed prisoners... because, of course, the High-Tech weaponry makes the notion of a Suicide Bomber unnecessary. If other people who don’t have access to a Drone that can be launched from a heavily guarded air force base and controlled by some Coward Punk Uniformed Child sitting at a desk at an air base in Nebraska, use the more “hands on” approach to delivering their ordinance, then THEY are the cowardly ones, right? Teaching uniformed children to use weapons and military techniques and tactics is of course a strictly un-American concept, because we would NEVER do that, including not teaching our kids to use the same skills they would need to manipulate Drone Robot Bombs into the living space of other Human Beings with the purpose of Killing The Other Human Beings, by remote control... No, that’s the province of Other People. When an American Child is killed violently, usually the violence either accidental or deliberate occurs in America. Since by most counts the U.S. majority is White and Christian, that means that the majority of both Victims and Victors would be Christian Whites. Unless you have the silly-ass notion that American Christian

Self-contradictory positions taken by TeaBag and Radical Republicans

The list is massive, their own anti-American Terrorist threats in relation to voting rights, civil rights, racism, hate-speech against Muslims, hate-speech inspired attacks against Muslims and other religious, racial, social, or cultural groups and individuals... Oh, and the constant use of Massive Conspiracy theories of their own to denounce "conspiracy theories" like the questions raised over RepubliKlan and TeaBags rigging either the initial attacks on 9/11 directly, rigging the public response to those attacks for the profit of their Warmongering Corporate Leaders, and D) All of the Above. Let's jump right in with Voting Rights, in Houston, one of the major cities in the Exxon Protectorate Territory of Texas. According to TeaBag-RepubliKlan legend, so "Red" that only Massive Commie Infiltration could have thwarted their machinations. A group called True the Vote is insisting that the 70 million to 48 million vote spanking they took in the last election wasn't an adverse reaction to Race Baiting on the part of their Terrorist Candidates McCain, Palin and others further down the ticket all the way to elections for Dogcatcher. OK so the dogcatcher election is an old hyperbole, maybe City Council would be more appropriate. AND they're calling for Armed Poll Watchers... Millions of Armed Poll Watchers. Which was IS Klan terrorism technique used to skew elections. Particularly elections for such positions as County Clerk and Recorder, or similarly positioned Election Oversight officials in different jurisdictions. Like the ones the Right Wing Hate Freaks controlled in so much of the nation 2 years ago that they were confident of cruising to victory with plenty to spare. But with a Republican Machine that rivals the Soviet system in reach and the Tammany Hall Machine in tactics, in place nationwide, there's a 22 MILLION vote difference + another 5 million or so they thought would give them an easy victory. So they come up with a Conspiracy Theory that's an order of magnitude more convoluted than the JFK Assassination theories and 9/11 theories and the whole "I saw Elvis in a UFO" range of theories combined. While alternately condemning as treason or mocking as trivial and irrelevant any questions of just how much political and financial advantage their Parent Corporations gained by the 9/11 attacks. Which is it, TeaBags, (local shout out to Michelle Malkin, Dan Maes, Tancredo, Gunny Bob) Treason, or insignificant rants of lunatics? Cause, cousins, y'all seem to have a Nationwide Lock on Loonie. Seriously. Then they spin that into their Mosque Mania and terroristic Hate Speech and Hate Actions against Muslims and anybody else they think of as being Not White or Christian Enough To Be Considered Real Americans, according to their Hate Speech Real Loonie Leader Sarah Palin. Their level of Violent Hatred has already caused American Deaths directly within the confines of the United States, attacks on Religious and Cultural Institutions such as the Murfreesboro Islamic Cultural Center torched in Tennessee last week, The Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church attacked at the urging of TeaBag Leaders at FOX Networks and Clear Channel, with two dead, the

Wall Street Journal in Anti-Mosque Rant.

Saying that moderate Islam doesn't exist, that al Qa'eda and Taliban operatives would kill anybody who expressed in the Arab Countries any non-extremist position. What a Fat Load Of Shit. Again painting Islam as a monolithic entity, no differences between nations or even PEOPLE. Let's put that in Christian Western Moderate terms yes? Since the Crusades pitted Christian against Christian more often that Christian against Muslim, and every war since then, German chaplains instructing their soldiers in Both World Wars to go into battle screaming "Gott Mit Uns" meaning, God is on OUR side, and the British Chaplains same way instructing their Cannon Fodder to scream "God and King!" as they marched in an orderly fashion through the portals of Hell... There must not be any such thing as a Moderate Christian because the Radicals, like for instance Michelle Malkin, and Sarah Palin, and Glenn Beck, would have us all killed if we expressed any form of moderation. Although that IS the ultimate logical end of their truly screwed up mindset. There's an internet rule that nobody is supposed to be compared to the Nazi regime no matter how much their plans for a New World Regime goose-steps right along with the Nazi philosophy. That's a huge benefit for Sarah and Glenn and Michelle and Pam Geller and similar Nazi-think-alikes. Do they consider the import of their making war against ANY religious belief? Especially in the name of what many other churches would consider Fringe Elements in for instance Sarah Palin's AOG church or Glenn Beck's LDS church, or Hannity's Catholic Church. The reason they're writing Slave Owner Thomas Jefferson as being not really a Founding Father is because he actually wrote a treatise on Separation of Church and State. Something they deny was the Holy and Unquestionable "original intent" of the Holy, Saintly and of Course Unanimously Christian (even though the first four presidents and Benjamin Franklin, Paul Revere and Samuel Adams were Deists, not Christian) They're writing off Jefferson not because of his slaves, a position of which they approve, National Burn the Confederate Flag Day 9/12 but because of his position on Religious Freedom implicitly and explicitly being dependent on No National Religion. He lived in Virginia, which before and even after the Revolution exchanged shots with the Catholic contingent in Maryland. Not a coincidence, but the very names Virginia and Maryland reflect the ongoing war in England at the time over Catholic-versus-Protestant. Neither name has anything to do with the Virgin Mary. It's Mary Stewart, Catholic, and Elizabeth Tudor the Virgin Queen of England who never married and officially never had sex, Their bloody little Christian-on-Christian Crime Spree was just one corner of a Vast anti-Christian Christian Crusade which still goes on. Both Virginia and Maryland not only each banned the other's Major Denomination but also Jews, Quakers and Native American religions. Thomas Jefferson opposed that. If the Muslim Countries had even HALF that kind of track record of Militancy there would be probably only two Muslim fellows left in the entire world, playing

They went out Tiger hunting, with their elephants and guns…

... and Paul, Ringo and the estates of John and George are gonna sue me... But in the Smokescreen Media, where rumors of a Black Man having sex is more important than massive firepower being thrown at what was the poorest country on earth, until they dismantled the economy of Haiti, well... They have to do SOMETHING to distract people from such unimportant stuff like the Former First "lady" Clinton saying that IRAN has a military dictatorship, while and at the same time the U.S. Army is busy dismantling the Local Government in Helmand Province and replacing it with a U.S. Military Dictatorship. At an undisclosed price vis-avis Loss of Human Life. The Army says Ooops, 12 civilians blown to hell by one of their "Smart" Bombs. They don't say how many were children, my guess is "all". If I'm wrong, Prove it. They're also only reporting ONE incident. That usually means they did a lot of OOPSIE moments. Hey, hey, USA How Many Civilian Kids did you Kill Today? So, they're recycling the Tiger Woods crap, "How DARE that uppity negro have sex with more than one person? Doesn't he know that because he can play golf very well, he's supposed to be a Role Model for our kids?" Because, you know, the Haters SERIOUSLY aren't good Role Models, so they have to set up somebody who doesn't even KNOW their kids as a Role Model. Look how well their efforts to be "role models" to kids in Afghanistan are panning out. "Now, Kids, if you insist on following your own culture which is several thousand years older than ours, and believing that your culture and religious mores are every bit as good as Our Superior White-Oriented Culture, then we'll have to snuff your uppity little brown arses" And of course do it in the name of Christ and Freedom. And smokescreen it with lurid stories of a Black man having sex with white women.

Come march in favor of elections for all

ON MONDAY OCTOBER 20th, at 12:30pm, Colorado College students will hold a PUBLIC MARCH to mark the first day of EARLY VOTING in the 2008 presidential election. Students will assemble at Worner Center, and march straight downtown to the El Paso County Registrar. This action will call attention to the need to go early to the polls, in case voters encounter challenges to their registrations. I'm more encouraged simply that students are taking to the streets because I believe, like Emma Goldman, "If voting could change anything, it would be illegal." Would Goldman be so revered a social reformer if people didn't recognize, deep down, the wisdom of her words? Students at Colorado College have in years past faced regular disenfranchisement at the voting booth because local election administrators chose to muddy the qualifications for whether out-of-state students could vote in El Paso County. This year, plans to enforce a similar policy were leaked, and the county was forced to deny its intentions. As yet, student organizers do not know what to expect on November 4. In the past, El Paso County has been such a God-forsaken Republican bastion that election rigging was probably unnecessary. It's conjectured that this year, facing a growing Democratic electorate, local officials will be so eager for the region to hold to its conservative-idiot tradition that they will justify any means to do it. I've seen the Republican partisanship on display at even ordinary county meetings. The Clerk and Recorder, Bob Balink for example, wears his Republican allegiance like a soccer fan. It would be no exaggeration I'm sure to speculate that Bob Balink will bite off your left foot sooner than let progressive ideas contaminate his hillbilly heaven. He travels to the Denver legislature on a regular basis to report back about what the crazy Democrats are trying to do. Every county commission meeting begins with his scouting tips about what progressive threats his Republican colleagues face over the horizon. Conservatism in Colorado Springs stands for cronies, imbecilic cretins and the clan. In the 1930s the Pikes Peak region was the Colorado stronghold of the Klan. I've no doubt a lot of these guys still have their clan robes. In fact most recently the Minutemen, the post-9/11 incarnation of the KKK, held its recruitment meetings in a Colorado Springs Police Substation community room. It included, I kid you not, a recruiting inducement lifted verbatim and without irony, from the KKK. Maybe a daylight demonstration of public unwillingness to be represented by bigots --who continue to parade about as if their support is unanimous-- will push their politics back into the stagnant backwater of their fenced no-immigrants-welcome backyards where it belongs.

Enough of red white and proud bigots

When Oh When can we unleash on the professional elements in our culture who've been driving the basest common denominator into the mud? Mud wrestling, motor-cross, monster- trucks and other mugly indulgences clearly proven now to be anything but harmless. When are we going to take the country singer drunkards, talk radio buffoons, TV talking-lowbrows, and hirsute airheads off to work the carnies where they belong? Mindless amusements have produced a mindless public as bigoted and idiotic as it is vacuous. Cynical, narcissistic and post-ironic are really just terms of flattery for detached deluded know-nothings. Have you ever seen Americans Uglier than these? Here's someone who attended a McCain rally with a simian effigy of Obama, another idiot who closed his parking lot to Obama supporters, and a so-called independent voter who's defying the landslide trend and swaying toward McCain. Let's also give honorable mention to the five Alaskan Republican legislators who tried to halt the investigation into Palin's misconduct as governor. Rep. Wes Keller, Rep. Mike Kelly, Rep. Bob Lynn, Sen. Fred Dyson, and Sen. Tom Wagoner. And how about the October [13] surprise of a resurgent Wall Street, rallying on cue to McCain's "soaring" speech, marking his "comeback" on the rising tide of nothing but his same old bullshit verbiage, and most of all, diverting news desks from the Palin Troopergate guilty verdict. I'm afraid the GOP is never going to go broke underestimating the American public.

Minutemen Civil Defense Klan in hindsight

COLORADO SPRINGS- I had the pleasure Tuesday night to attend a membership recruiting meeting for a Minuteman border protection group. About fifty citizens turned up, with a collective IQ of probably about that. Lots of people eager to use their handguns against brown usurpers of American land, jobs and social programs. Protect our border because the Federal Government won't do it. Protect it against immigrants, Hepatitis B, Drug-resistant TB, drugs, rape & pillage (seriously) and terrorism. The pitch was big on the threat of terrorism, 9/11 and all. We knew they were bigots because they didn't care a lick about the Canadian border. My friend Mark Lewis and I were going to show up in Klan robes, to mix it up and mock their bigoted enthusiasm, but we got there late and copped out. The meeting was held at a police station of all places. We were going to make a stink about that, but didn't. In fact I spent the whole meeting trying to think of pointed questions but didn't say a peep. And worse, when a protestor stood up and disrupted the presentation I didn't chime in with words of support. He was pelted with insults and led out of the room with his young daughter. I felt very bad that she would have been hurt by the universal condemnation of her dad's heroism. I do so hope to run into the two again someday. By the way, the man was called out of the room by the officer in charge at the Falcon Police Sub-station, Sargent Rob Kelly who had I guess appointed himself bouncer to the public meeting. The protestor's comments were disruptive but not obstructive. The minuteman spokesman didn't ask to be assisted, the officer abruptly jumped in. Mark and I had decided our presence would be most effective after the meeting, providing an opposing voice interview to the TV crew. It worked out, the TV crew was just as repulsed as we at the presence of such trigger-happy white people meeting in a police station community room. In hindsight, I might have some suggestions for effective communication disruptors, if the goal is to dissuade as many of the attendees as possible from signing up with the Minutemen. If you get a chance to attend one of these meetings, here are a couple tactics you might consider. Don't do the KKK robes, they won't let you in the meeting and the satire will be lost on them. Instead wear a t-shirt with the vintage Klan poster depicting Uncle Sam saying "I want you to join the Klan." Later in the slideshow the Minutemen have the same image but this time it says "I want you to join the Minutemen." The first thing the Minutemen do in their presentation is try to dispel the idea that they appeal to bigots. If you are motivated by racial or cultural hatred, they ask you to please leave. Now. I so wish that I'd chosen that uncomfortably silent moment to stand up and walk out,

White Native Americans

A branch of our local library is hosting a discussion about a recent work of popular fiction, One Thousand White Women by Jim Fergus. I'm thinking of stopping by to puke. The novel begins by alluding that its unspeakable historical premise has factual merit. ALLEGEDLY the author's great great aunt, a "May Dodd", left a journal about her life experience, hidden all these years in shame by her family. The author takes it upon himself to tell her repressed tale, and because it is the untold fate of 999 nameless more, we infer it to be one of the dark secrets of the American national identity. The story concerns 1000 white women who were traded to the Indians in exchange for resettlement and peace. One thousand white women. The title does grab you. It has undeniable where-the-white-women-at? appeal. The phenomena also shares something with the White Indian Series by Donald Porter. That's a western series for readers who couldn't be bothered to know about the lives of the Native Americans unless they were WHITE Native Americans. These readers can't sympathize with Indians as victims, unless they are white Indian victims, and then preferably of course they should be white Indian victims of Indians. The mythic white Indian abounds on film, and it's not just Indians. The story of The Last Samurai had to be about a white man in Japan (Tom Cruise) or who would care? Here you have the fate of 1000 women sold, sacrificed or let loose down the river to become Indian squaws. One part romantic fantasy, several parts feminist grudge, (1000 parts rape fetish?), all at the hands of red heathen. To be fair, the author does provide a disclaimer that 1000 white women never changed hands. Fergus implies however that an original Cheyenne proposal to be given 1000 white women was real and asks readers to ponder, what if? If true, it's a piercing lesson on the embarrassing legacy that can come from sarcasm. How deeply insulting is it to suggest that Indian tribal leaders would have asked the army negotiators for white women? And as a condition of laying down their weapons? I think it's indescribably racist to be susceptible to thinking that Indian fathers and braves sought white mates with whom to raise new generations of their tribe. Neither in-breeding nor poor education are excuses enough for this prevalent self-centered bigotry.
