Render unto Obama the peace symbol that is Obama’s

I've always cherished the peace symbol button I wear on my coat lapel, lovingly decorated for me with rhinestones. But I see what it has become, a broach. Time to take it off, not because it's grandmotherly, it's pure and simple outrée. PEACE: Yeah, who doesn't want peace --so what? That the peace symbol has become ubiquitous would have been something to celebrate only a couple years ago when it marked you as an obstinate hippie or wannabe malcontent. Today peace means Pax Obamana: WORLD PEACE imposed by imperial drone, PEACE KEEPING by occupation. The PEACE OF MIND come of military security. The PEACE AND QUIET absent of conscience, PEACEFULLY free of dissonant free speech. When George Bush said he would bring corporate malfeasance into compliance with the law, we thought he would reform their lawbreaking, instead Bush meant he'd change the law. Obama promised peace, the war = peace incarnation, and he intends to bring us into compliance.

PPJPC drops justice & peace in favor of Judas kiss & Participatory militarism

You don't care what our neighborhood Pikes Peak Justice & Peace Commission has gotten its leash tangled around --I shouldn't-- but the latest is just too funny. FIRST, in November they sponsored an Israel-BDS protest to boycott a local Ahava outlet and promptly got two participants arrested. Wrongly of course, but the police were awaiting them with a letter fashioned for the occasion by the City Attorney giving the CSPD authority to drive the activists from the private property. Although planning had been kept on the QT, do you think the reception might have been due to monthly confabs which the PPJPC executive director keeps with city law enforcement? Later in debriefing, the director pronounced his incredulity that the "new policy" hadn't been spelled out to him at the last meeting. So what kinds of things do the PPJPC & CSPD discuss? SECOND, just as the PPJPC fell for the Save Darfur intervention-as-peacemaking faketivism, then zipped it for Obama's false hopetivism, now the pitiful dupes call their Muslim-Jewish-Christian "Evening in Jerusalem" gathering a THREE CUPS OF TEA PARTY! Would this be in deference to Greg Mortenson's Western Empire [school] building enterprise? That puts the PPJPC in the company of the Pentagon and the Department of Homeland Security, Mortenson's biggest boosters. The next chance I get I will ask known J&P'ers I promise you -- who are the Idiot Iscariots taking this tack? The PPJPC is soliciting donations from earnest yous and mes in the name of peace and justice, to advocate for forfeiting civil liberties and 3CoT's participatory militarism. On the AHAVA arrests, do we know who tipped off the cops? Not really, but we know the city's actions didn't spring from the media press releases which went out the day before. How much lead time do you figure is required to solicit a written policy from the city attorney's office? Who had that kind of foresight? The official word was that the "new policy" delineating which shopping centers might be major enough to be considered public spaces, and which were only average-sized neighborhood no-free-speech zones, was drafted to preempt populist petitioner Doug Bruce from assailing shoppers at will. But he prevailed against the trespassing charges pressed against him by Costco didn't he. So that pretext doesn't wash, and by no stretch of the law would a Costco parking lot be considered public. There is already legal precedence for shopping centers not being considered the new town squares, and the state of Colorado has already put freedom-seekers aspiring to assemble in malls that they must abide by individual mall rules of conduct. At Chapel Hills mall is means, by permit, one at a time, no more than one day per quarter, no handouts, and a moratorium on all social causes over the holiday shopping period. So a city-wide policy penned by their counsel giving explicit authority for police to remove activists from private property would seem redundant and by its intentional breadth, unconstitutional. But it gives cops-on-the-beat ground not to vacillate.

2 AM, time to piss off the Navy.

So this is the USN "crackerjack" work uniform blouse, from behind. Notice the two stars on a broad field of blue. That's, according to my brother the Sailor, symbolic. The stars stand for the two times the USN fought the Royal Navy, and won. The extra large field is to make room for more stars as needed. A wonderful imperial gesture, yes? "We are mighty, you shall obey us!"   Then there's BP. Which was founded as an adjunct to the Royal Navy and had the Royal Navy and even the U.S. Navy fight to secure their supply sources, which, surprise surprise surprise, none of which are actually in England. The propaganda bit they put out when they helped launch World War One, "That small nations might have the same rights as the Great Powers..." purest bullshit. Then as now, it was all about the Rich getting richer and using the blood and labor of the poor to do it. The kicker of it came down this past spring... when British Petroleum, that ol' devilish offshoot of the British Royal Navy, Bitch-slapped the U.S. Navy in American territorial waters. Guess you kids in Uncle Sams Canoe Club should take those stars off? May God have mercy on the next nation who is so unfortunate to discover that they, too, have United States and British oil buried under their sands. They'll be reduced to puppet dictatorships like Iraq and Kuwait and Nigeria and Ghana and Texas and Colorado have. There will be a top social layer of Kiss-Ass Experts like al Maliki and a vast underclass who will either be slaves to the Korporatisch Imperium or hunted, and their children as well, for the "crime" of being insurgents and resisting the Mighty United States and British Military. They'll be "free" do obey, conform, comply.

So-called Free Market Capitalism doesn’t pay its bills

It instead leeches off Tax-supported Publicly paid enterprises like the Army and Police agencies, not coincidentally the only agencies they want to be continued to have Public Funding...Allow the wealthiest to not pay taxes on money they obtained through blatantly aggressive Government Interventions in the so-called "free" markets by using publicly funded Soldiers to take over any of the competing trade partnerships aka "Sovereign Nations" by extreme violence or the threat thereof. The Ayn Rand worshipers wouldn't be able to obtain the agricultural and mineral riches of MesoAmerica by their own machinations, even were they willing (unlike the huge majority of their favorite Mouthpieces like Reagan, Bush, John Wayne, Limbaugh, Coulter, Malkin, O'Reilly, Beck etc ... chickenhawks on parade) to use their OWN physical presence and risk their OWN worthless parasitic lives to do so. Their "superior" Invisible Hand of the "free" market wasn't in any way capable to take over even ONE nation, even the Stone-age technology nations they much more than decimated (decimated means taking only ten percent off, and the slaughter left alive more like 7%, more than NINE TIMES mere decimation) first through disease and then through violence using "superior" technologies against, again, Stone Age peoples. The Pilgrims and Puritans they worship as being Godlike Beings had Publicly Funded armies and navies behind them when they conquered the Northeastern U.S., not exactly Daniel Boone Striding Alone Into The Wilderness... (he was slightly more than a century later and even he, brave though he might have been, had the British Army backing him up. Even if they weren't sharing his camp) All that Publicly funded conquest is the basis for American Wealth but even the Rich White-boy so-called "Founding Fathers" weren't willing to pay the rent on the Soldiers and Equipment used to gain their financial base. They're not willing to pay the workers and even their own Corporate Partners who provide the construction and maintenance of the infrastructure, dams, water treatment, roads, that they would need to continue gaining their wealth. With "no new taxes" but plenty of new construction, at Public Expense and the most immediate benefit from that construction going to the "no taxes" manipulators and their mouthpieces like Doug Bruce and Tom Tancredo they say, literally, "We want you to sell us your labor, and your materiel, for a minuscule fraction of what it costs you to produce it, and if you don't give us what we want we'll have the Publicly Paid tax-supported Army and Police force you to comply, just like they did and still do in all the other Conquered Territories which pay THEIR tributes into our 'free' Market system" They're treating American workers the way they've treated the forced-labor of every "lesser" economy in the World, again, using the Fascist "freedom fighters" in the Police and Military, private and public to force us to comply the same way the "Operation Iraqi Freedom" PIGS force the Iraqi people to comply with their Corporate Whore-lords. Again, just like the Tea-Bag and other Right Wing Terrorist Extremists,

Ol’ Momma Karma she’s a MEAN byotch

Saw another bumper sticker "I Will NOT be forced to learn a Foreign Language to accomodate Illegal Aliens in MY Country." First off, it's not YOUR country. You don't own the whole country. Too bad if your nasty little Klansman feelings are hurt. There were people speaking Spanish and French and Native languages HERE, in Colorado Springs, until the English came with their retarded ass "Manifest Destiny" and not only killed most of the Natives, they forced the rest of us to learn THEIR Language. The better to "accommodate" our Bigoted English Masters. Too damn bad y'all English-only Racist Freaks are getting back a small measure of what you dish out. You don't like it, move back to England. The English Nation appreciate your ill humour at those Bad Ol' Wicked Naughty Foreigners refusing to learn the tongue of their "betters". They had to murder Irish people for four centuries getting to speak English to their English Masters. And then the Irish INGRATES actually Rebelled against their Rightful Masters! How Very Dare They! Of course, the British would compel you to learn actual English grammar, spelling and usages.

Obama confuses Nobel for Iron Cross

We can only conjecture that the Nobel Peace Prize fashioned for President Obama features military motifs of the Knight's Cross and the Prussian Pour Le Merite. The cheeky new War Czar invoked, and completely contradicted 1964 peace laureate Martin Luther King Jr. and pacifist A.J. Muste: "There is no way to peace. Peace is the way." Obama explained that Pax Americana's arsenal of tools includes war. Where he himself was last year's spoonful of sugar, Obama is hoping the Afghanistan escalation goes down better with a spoonful of Nobel, ersatz peace. Now the pundits are reporting that Obama's acceptance speech was well received, even by the Left. Riiiiight. What's become of our benchmark for peace, that the givers of a peace prize couldn't rescind their offer when it became obvious the wayward emperor wasn't about to veer from the warpath?

Top 10 secret armies of the CIA

Found this on the web, will try to retrace provenance, worth a read: The United States have a well known history of providing military support to countries in need. But from time to time, the US Government has provided secret forces. While many are successful, there have also been a number of failures. This is a list of the ten top secret armies of the CIA. 1. Ukrainian Partisans From 1945 to 1952 the CIA trained and aerially supplied Ukranian partisan units which had originally been organised by he Germans to fight the Soviets during WWII. For seven years, the partisans, operating in the Carpathian Mountains, made sporadic attacks. Finally in 1952, a massive Soviet military force wiped them out. 2. Chinese Brigade in Burma After the Communist victory in China, Nationalist Chinese soldiers fled into northern Burma. During the early 1950s, the CIA used these soldiers to create a 12,000 man brigade which made raids into Red China. However, the Nationalist soldiers found it more profitable to monopolise the local opium trade. 3. Guatemalan Rebel Army After Guatemalan president Jacobo Arbenz legalised that country’s communist party and expropriated 400,000 acres of United Fruit banana plantations, the CIA decided to overthrow his government. Guatemalan rebels were trained in Honduras and backed up with a CIA air contingent of bombers and fighter planes. This army invaded Guatemala in 1954, promptly toppling Arbenz’s regine. 4. Sumatran Rebels In an attempt to overthrow Indonesian president Sukarno in 1958, the CIA sent paramilitary experts and radio operators to the island of Sumatra to organise a revolt. With CIA air support, the rebel army attacked but was quickly defeated. The American government denied involvement even after a CIA b-26 was shot down and its CIA pilot, Allen Pope, was captured. 5. Khamba Horsemen After the 1950 Chinese invasion of Tibet, the CIA began recruiting Khamba horsemen - fierce warriors who supported Tibet’s religious leader, the Dalai Lama - as they escaped into India in 1959. These Khambas were trained in modern warfare at Camp Hale, high in the rocky mountains near Leadville, Colorado. Transported back to Tibet by the CIA operated Air American, the Khambas organised an army number at its peak some 14,000. By the mid-1960s the Khambas had been abandoned by the CIA but they fought on alone until 1970. 6. Bay of Pigs Invasion Force In 1960, CIA operatives recruited 1,500 Cuban refugees living in Miami and staged a surprise attack on Fidel Castro’s Cuba. Trained at a base in Guatemala, this small army - complete with an air force consisting of B-26 bombers - landed at the Bay of Pigs on April 19, 1961. The ill-conceived, poorly planned operation ended in disaster, since all but 150 men of the force were either killed or captured within three days. 7. L’armee Clandestine In 1962, CIA agents recruited Meo tribesmen living in the mountains of Laos to fight as guerrillas against Communist Pathet Lao forces. Called l’armee Clandestine, this unit - paid, trained, and supplied by the CIA - grew into a 30,000 man force. By 1975

Greg Mortenson US occupation pitchman

Greg Mortenson, stealth poster boy for the GWOT Pax Americana, nominated for the same Nobel suggested for Henry Kissinger, will be in Denver this Sunday at Red Rocks, to emcee JOURNEY OF HOPE, to collect "Pennies For Peace" to build Western Education settlements to justify more US military advance camps, and to lead a "Prayer For Peace." Wanna bet it's not an Islamic prayer?

Pax Americana on a necklace

There's the rub. An iconic photograph from the Vietnam War shows an American GI wearing a peace symbol necklace between a bandoleer of machine gun bullets. Which is it soldier? Nonviolence or destruction? Peace or war? Many Americans cannot make the distinction and think you can have both.

From whence shines that Bat Signal?

It's a droll cartoon, calling Twitter to the rescue. But I believe MARSDEN got the metropolis wrong. It's Paris, London or Amsterdam, and French and English diplomats are in an Iranian court today because Tehran suspects the Green Revolutionists are being stirred up from points international.   The telecommunications companies could clear this up, if they weren't themselves eager to reform Iran's economy to favor capitalism unfettered by Islamic morality. The US antiwar community in particular is split on whether to play along with the charade. Secular freedoms are good, but are there real verifiable indications that Iran's populace wants them? On the one side, the Campaign for Peace and Democracy is cracking the whip to keep the usual pacifists in line. They've issued talking points to refute criticisms that the CPD effort in Pax Americana disguised. Here are their straw questions: 1. Was the June 12, 2009 election fair? 2. Isn't it true that the Guardian Council is indirectly elected by the Iranian people? 3. Was there fraud, and was it on a scale to alter the outcome? 4. Didn't a poll conducted by U.S.-based organizations conclude that Ahmadinejad won the election? 5. Didn't Ahmadinejad get lots of votes from conservative religious Iranians among the rural population and the urban poor? Might not these votes have been enough to overwhelm his opponents? 6. Hasn't the U.S. (and Israel) been interfering in Iran and promoting regime change, including by means of supporting all sorts of "pro-democracy" groups? 7. Has the Western media been biased against the Iranian government? 8. Is Mousavi a leftist? A neoliberal? What is the relation between Mousavi and the demonstrators in the streets? 9. Is Ahmadinejad good for world anti-imperialism? 10. Is Ahmadinejad more progressive than his opponents in terms of social and economic policy? Is he a champion of the Iranian poor? 11. What do we want the U.S. government to do about the current situation in Iran? 12. What should we do about the current situation in Iran? 13. Is it right to advocate a different form of government in Iran? The response to question one is amusing: 1. Was the June 12, 2009 election fair? Even if every vote was counted fairly, this was not a fair election. 475 people wished to run for president, but the un-elected Guardian Council, which vets all candidates for supposed conformity to Islamic principles, rejected all but 4. Free elections also require free press, free expression, and freedom to organize, all of which have been severely curtailed." Now, can they say the exact same thing about US elections? But they haven't, nor have the CPD addressed Peace and Democracy issues anywhere but Iran. Taking the admittedly lonely side is the Monthly Review, where academic Edward Herman can easily parry the CPD's rationalizations. Didn't it used to be illegal to spend government monies to propagandize the American public? Someone wants a war with Iran, and their using do-gooder grass-roots to sell it.

Peace flows from the end of a gunboat

WASHINGTON DC- It's not the "Department of Peace," to contrast with the Department of Defense, although some detractors point out that we have the State Department for that, but visitors to DC will find in the NW corner of the National Mall, the US Navy has conceded a portion of its real estate adjacent the Lincoln Memorial for a US Institute of Peace. Dot org, not dot gov. And what do they mean by "Public Education Center?" It's Pax Americana they're institutionalizing, aka peacekeeping in the gunboat diplomacy sense of the word. And sure enough, according to its website: USIP has been operating on the ground in Iraq since 2004, working with Iraqis to reduce interethnic and interreligious violence, speed up stabilization and democratization, and reduce the need for a U.S. presence in Iraq.

The Obama Administration’s war games and the complicity of the United Nations Insecurity Council

The Obama Administration talks it up for Peace, but readies itself to attack Iran. It also arms Israel to the teeth for whatever further destruction the Jewish State might be prepared to deliver to its neighbors. And now Obama has the nerve to demand that the United Nations stop Iran and Syria from taking actions to defend themselves from a coming Israeli-US planned war! What incredible hypocrisy! See UN action urged (by US) over Iran arms ship ...What a charade of international world government! What an dishonest con artist is Barack Obama! He does one thing and then demands that others do differently than the US itself. Obama wants a UN built on a double standard with US president as God! In effect there are 2 United Nations; one democratic and representative of the world's numerous and various nations and governments, and the other a coalition of the leading imperialist countries, all allied with the United States. The US simply ignores the United Nations that is the democratic one, and organizes the separate body of imperialist nations to do its bidding. The United Nations 'Security' Council of imperialist countries is a puppet grouping of the US government and its allies, and always does US bidding 100% of the time. It's time for the real United Nations of the world's nations to expel the imperialist bloc altogether. It's time for the real United Nations of expel the United States itself, because of its continual violation of World Peace. The US acts like a group of Nazis and the real United Nations needs to act accordingly because of that. The world needs an international body that treats all countries equally with the same rules, laws, and instructions and which does not 'sanction' one country for doing one thing while then allowing all other countries allied with the US to do the exact same things of the sanctioned nation. Equal treatment under international law is the only real foundation for building World Peace and a world international government not based on continual lies, corruption, and injustice. The United Nations Security Council needs to be abolished by the Untied Nations itself, otherwise it is time to abolish the United Nations entirely. In fact, it should have been done long time ago.

Ward Churchill: Some People Push Back

Here is Ward Churchill's notorious 9/11 "Little Eichmanns" essay, published online September 12, 2001, presented here for archival purposes lest critics think they can silence one of our nation's strongest dissenting voices. Churchill later expanded this piece into a book entitled On the Justice of Roosting Chickens: reflections on the consequences of U.S. imperial arrogance and criminality published by AK Press in 2003. Some People Push Back: On the Justice of Roosting Chickens by Ward Churchill When queried by reporters concerning his views on the assassination of John F. Kennedy in November 1963, Malcolm X famously – and quite charitably, all things considered – replied that it was merely a case of "chickens coming home to roost." On the morning of September 11, 2001, a few more chickens – along with some half-million dead Iraqi children – came home to roost in a very big way at the twin towers of New York's World Trade Center. Well, actually, a few of them seem to have nestled in at the Pentagon as well. The Iraqi youngsters, all of them under 12, died as a predictable – in fact, widely predicted – result of the 1991 US "surgical" bombing of their country's water purification and sewage facilities, as well as other "infrastructural" targets upon which Iraq's civilian population depends for its very survival. If the nature of the bombing were not already bad enough – and it should be noted that this sort of "aerial warfare" constitutes a Class I Crime Against humanity, entailing myriad gross violations of international law, as well as every conceivable standard of "civilized" behavior – the death toll has been steadily ratcheted up by US-imposed sanctions for a full decade now. Enforced all the while by a massive military presence and periodic bombing raids, the embargo has greatly impaired the victims' ability to import the nutrients, medicines and other materials necessary to saving the lives of even their toddlers. All told, Iraq has a population of about 18 million. The 500,000 kids lost to date thus represent something on the order of 25 percent of their age group. Indisputably, the rest have suffered – are still suffering – a combination of physical debilitation and psychological trauma severe enough to prevent their ever fully recovering. In effect, an entire generation has been obliterated. The reason for this holocaust was/is rather simple, and stated quite straightforwardly by President George Bush, the 41st "freedom-loving" father of the freedom-lover currently filling the Oval Office, George the 43rd: "The world must learn that what we say, goes," intoned George the Elder to the enthusiastic applause of freedom-loving Americans everywhere. How Old George conveyed his message was certainly no mystery to the US public. One need only recall the 24-hour-per-day dissemination of bombardment videos on every available TV channel, and the exceedingly high ratings of these telecasts, to gain a sense of how much they knew. In trying to affix a meaning to such things, we would do well to remember the wave of elation that swept America at

The Democrats, the Republicans, and Israel are threatening to incinerate Gaza

What happens when you drop bomb after bomb on a densely populated civilian area? It most likely will go up into flames right? It is a war crime to even threaten such a thing let alone do it. Let's face it, America, much of the US population just like much of the Jewish population of Israel want to kill off Arabs and Muslims because they are full of racial and cultural hatred of them. The following film posted on alternet's website gives an honest portrayal of what these people are actually like. Pro-Israel Rally Attended by Big-Time NY Dems Descends into Calls for 'Wiping Out' Palestinians

US corporations foist religious pacifism on Palestinians and not on Israelis

The US corporate community does big business annually with the Jewish Israeli military-industrial armaments crew to the tune of billions per year, but then turns around and funds religious pacifist values off onto the oppressed Palestinians! U.S. steers young Palestinians to pacifism by Karin Laub, Associated Press Now doesn't that just take the cake? You can bet, too, that the US 'Peace'crats just lap this stuff up, just like many do with their often playing along with the military's 'We're Green Campaign'. There is a long tradition of the rich and powerful funding religion and therefore religious pacifism off and onto the oppressed. Throw on a heavy dose of the salt of sanctimonious babble, ala the Pope, and you get a pacified community if the recipe is cooked right. Voila! Fait Accompli now being served!

US government pimps US child prostitutes to justify its own worldwide terrorism against children

'More than 600 adults have been arrested in raids across the US targeting people who force children into prostitution. Operations took place in 29 cities in a co-ordinated action involving federal, state and local law officers, according to the FBI.' thus reads the Reuters reportage of yesterdays US government's mass raids US smashes child prostitute rings coming just one day after the government violated all international law and entered into a Syrian village and murdered 4 children there. The two events, though seemingly unrelated to each other, in fact are thoroughly related. So let's take a look at the US government 'child prostitution raid' and examine some how the US government pimped our own American children here at home in the country to help justify its own terrorism both at home and abroad. Shall we? Notice that 'operation took place in 29 cities in a co-ordinated action'. Does that seem like a normal legal action to take here? If it does, then you need to think a bit more about it some. Just what type of government or policing body sits back and does not stop child prostitution involving even a single child going on for any more time than a second? That's right. The US government and its police sat back and did nothing for weeks and months at a time (if you believe their own storyline???), just so they could 'co-ordinate' in 29 different cities! In other words (their own words), they sat back and allowed multiple American children to be prostituted while doing absolutely nothing at all to save the children from these crimes, all so as to better do their own government co-ordinated showcase raids using multiple terroristic Swat Teams! You bet! What princes of morality we have here! Imagine? You see a child being prostituted in your own neighborhood, call the police, and they say to you... 'Don't worry, we are working on taking action, but first we have to co-ordinate with 28 other cities before we help this one underage girl out.' Your reaction here? Shock? Is this responsible policing? I think not. Imagine the absolute corruption in our US municipal police forces to have just sat back in 29 cities allowing these children to continue to be prostituted, just so that they could all 'coordinate' these US government Swat Team raids to occur one and all at the same time! Imagine it? 'Sorry, Mam. We know that you saw, and we believe you, too, that a neighborhood hoodlum is prostituting this 14 year old girl next door in your building. But we have to wait for the cameras to show up in 29 cities at one time before we can take action and help her out. Plus, The

Promoting education and ignorance

Have I a verdict on Greg Mortenson now that I've had a chance to see him? He's an incredibly likable guy, doing great good; to my values, doing fantastic work. But I'm a secular westerner, concerned about preserving the ideals of the enlightenment, and worried about the challenge posed by overpopulation. Are these the concerns of Islam? Do fundamentalist Muslims favor personal fulfillment of the individual and smaller families? Greg Mortenson is advancing my agenda and I'd certainly like to think this will lead to prosperity and peace for everyone, but in the meantime I'm certain these actions are antagonistic to Muslims. I'd prefer we consult with Islamic leaders about prospects for peaceful coexistence, not peace engineered on curbing their numbers. Perhaps Greg can champion the educating of Americans to tolerate other belief systems, some of which may not value literacy above family and religion. Westerners subject themselves to schooling because it's the cultural conditioning with which we equip ourselves for our complex post-agrarian world. Does everyone need it? Do Pakistani girls who are going to marry by age twelve need to be literate? Critical thinking and scientific understanding are values of ours. Getting married at a later age, and having fewer children, are values of ours. If Islamic fundamentalists are rushing to indoctrinate adherents with the intention of recruiting Jihadists to attack western encroachment, you have to admit Mortenson's conquest by education would be one of the causes. Mortenson's methods are infinitely preferable to our military's, but they are invasive all the same. The disservice of Greg Mortenson's lecture tour may be that he's selling an over-simplified solution. Mortenson preached a message of hope not fear, hurrah, to an audience that really wants to hope. With Pennies for Peace, we can hope that kids' pocket change will bring us closer to world peace. With the Central Asia Institute, we can hope to end-run our own government's incurable ways. Is it true, do you think? The white elephant in the room was so palpably invisible Dr. Greg may well have trained with David Copperfield. Not even lip service to it: Capitalism. Mortenson's idealism does not address globalization, the World Bank, debt, impoverishment by design, intentional destabilization, protracted war-making, etc. We the People may want world peace, we the people of the world could possibly come together through education, but will our industrial mechanisms allow it? Americans can't even fraternize with Mexico! The fantastic promise of Mortenson's efforts would distract Americans from the more difficult challenge at hand, for which many of us perhaps are finding it harder to muster hope: arresting the destructiveness of our market forces, our government and its corporate oligarchy. Putting our hopes in schooling the children of Islam will be of little avail if our military-driven economies increase their plundering and exploitation all the while. That's who I think is behind the promotion of Three Cups of Tea. That's why the Center of Homeland Security sponsored Mortenson's visit. That's why a self-defined hapless do-gooder is getting such traction. He's selling a fix

Greg Mortenson’s own cup of tea

Greg Mortenson finds himself on the vanguard of Pax Americana the same way he stumbled into the mountain village beneath K2. He has no idea the enormity of the power behind his continued fortune.

Stealing Muslim women from terrorists

Greg Mortenson, author of THREE CUPS OF TEA, thinks that building secular schools for girls in Afghanistan and Pakistan will not upset their Islamic communities and not incite further religious war and terrorism.

From Labour to Catholicism in time for Christmas and Santa

For those of us who are easily entertained by the Republican Party candidates' pre-Christmas expressed opinions in favor of our Lord and Master, it is especially gratifying to know that these expressions of faith are not solely American. The Lord, too, has recently moved Tony Blair to reject godless Labour Party ideology in favor of Papism. God bless Thee, Tony! You no longer will live in sin. December 23, 2007 Tony Blair finally becomes a Catholic

Moneychangers in the temple

It's official, the New Life Church Killer Matthew Murray died by a self-inflicted wound. Perhaps this will take the heat off volunteer church security guard and disgraced-cop Jeanne Assam who may have fired on Murray from a concealed position and kept firing on him as she advanced according to her police training. What does this latest distinction mean? This is what it suggests to me:   Troubled-teen Matthew Murray, according to his own website postings, may be America's first suicide bomber, using smoke and assault rifle to penetrate and injure a temple of American militant fundamentalism. This is American sectarian violence, perpetrated by a former adherent rebelling against the oppressive reach of American smiley-face religio-capitalism, church of prosperity Fundamentalism. The same corporate spiritualism that drives our war machine, the rotten heart of Pax Americana, the misplaced sense that American vacant-headed fundamentalist values must police the world, and dominate, or at least prosper from the bulk of its resources. Murray believed this kind of Christianity was at the core of the world's problems, and church leaders like New Life founder Ted Haggard as much as brag about it. Matthew Murray was the product of too-far-isolated fundie parents, who terrorized their children with fire and brimstone nightmares. His ostracism justifies public education, where home-schooling entrusted to zealots yields intelligent but incompatible offspring.

Is there life after SaveDarfur?

Update: Retired UN ambassador Lakhdar Brahimi is interviewed on BBC the World: Elder statesmen seek Sudan progress. If you can't support the SAVE DARFUR call to arms, where does that leave you? Is there no "grass roots" non-profit think-tank network supporting financial incentives to encourage benevolent stewardship on the part of the Sudanese government? (Maybe none flush with money.) Is there no one urging US and allies to quit arming those fighting the government forces so that China wouldn't be called upon to resupply munitions to Khartoum? That is whose fault? Is there no congressional representative you can call to suggest legislation laying out diplomatic encouragement in lieu of divestiture and corporate maneuvers to snatch Sudan's resources from the clutches of the Chinese? That is whose fault? Just because an alternative may be a little more complicated than can be explained beneath a compelling poster, is no excuse not to take the high road. Just because your options are offered as the lesser of two evils: either approve UN peacekeepers or we will have to launch missile strikes, does not mean you have to choose either. Have you only Hillary or Obama to chose for presidential nominee? No you don't. Would any other candidate stand a chance to be elected? Should you try and see? Do not ask others to settle for your lack of imagination or stamina.
