How Does It Feel?

So I’ve been letting this ferment for about a week. Good Morning America had a session about “Money in Your Closet” which wasn’t aimed to the vast majority of Americans who make substantially less than “Average Income”. How to sell your “old, broken or unwanted gold” was part of it, the one Case In Point they had to demonstrate it had about 7800 bucks worth of jewelry. And her old clothes on top of it, designer label, hand-tailored and I really can’t think of the right word for it, Tailors are more for Mens clothing while milliners do it for Womens clothes. Said she “used to be” Corporate but now she’s left Corporate and is an “entrepreneur”. That’s Corporate-speak for “unemployed”.
They left her with high hopes that she’d be able to sell her clothes for another 7 grand. ummm… used clothes selling for how much?
People who know me will readily tell you that I have absolutely no fashion sense My last ten clothing purchases have been on the level of a maximum of $2 per item. So perhaps I’m not the one to judge about how much money used clothes can fetch when people are willing to pay the max.

In any case… I think she was just a bit giddy with delusions that the clothes and jewelry could buy her another month rent before she has to leave her apartment.

But, that’s the nature of Vulture Capitalism.

BP, Meet Agatha

As in, the first named storm of the season. So far, 12 killed in Guatemala. Oh, and we were duly informed that the Top Kill maneuver failed. If it’s any consolation to us they didn’t wait two weeks to tell us that. A bit of further consolation, such as it is, this poisoning of the ocean has the potential to end America’s involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan. NATO as a whole, too, because the rest of the NATO countries are facing budget crisis and crises, the first shared and the second individual, country by country case by case. The core of it isn’t socialized medicine or public welfare programs. The core of it is NATO itself, with the NATO mission of buying more expensive equipment, hiring more soldiers and not fighting one single God-Damn war that isn’t strictly for the benefit of the Wealthiest individuals on the planet. No wars of Defense, no wars for Freedom, or Nation Building, all that is window dressing, sham, frosting on a cake that’s baked from the mortal remains of the Imperialist Manifesto. A manifesto that’s written in not one document, nor book… but the death records of hundreds of millions of people, civilian, military, or militant, the ones described in 1916 as “The Great Fallen”.

The Great Fallen was made a slogan to memorialize one particular battle, that was neither at the beginning nor the end of the Imperial Meat Grinder. It counts only those fallen by gunfire in pitched battle. Not those killed by the plagues unleashed, one after another, the famines, also known as “Recessions, Depressions” and (my personal favorite, that used by the richest themselves) “Bubbles and Adjustments.” Oh, the market is going through one of it’s periodic correction cycles.
That’s great news for those who have vast wealth, but for the people who put that vast wealth in their pockets, it’s a tragedy reduced to numbers and statistics.

Now, we come to a point in history where there’s a perfect storm. An economy that’s been kicked out from under the entire world, the ecology that underpinned it so mangled and twisted it would be unrecognizable to Audubon, the greedy quest for More Money has now trashed one of the last places on Earth that HAD a chance to be redeemed.

Those who 6 weeks ago were screaming that the new restrictions to try to save that very niche of the environment would “put an end to sport fishing in the gulf”… and condemning every member of the government who even dared to use the words Environmental or Ecology in policy statements, no similar level of vilification for Their Corporate Masters now that their Corporate Masters have blown off not just sport fishing, but Commercial Fishing, and in a not surprising outcome, might kill or alter the balance of algae in the ocean that produces oxygen. Oxygen which is an anti-greenhouse gas. People who breathe regularly might recognize the term Oxygen as well. Less Oxygen, perhaps more Methane from the decaying remains of life in what used to be a living segment of the ocean, just another “Adjustment”. More numbers to add to The Great Fallen.

And to add to the Perfect Storm, starting with one actual storm named Agatha.

Alfred Lownstein and Carrion Fowl Capital

We got our satellite TV today, and on History International there’s “History’s Mysteries”. War Profiteer/Wall Street Weasel (ok, so the European version thereof) financier Lownstein is flying across the English Channel. End of life history is he’s reported to go to the bathroom in his private plane and disappeared Found dead later. My thought, the crew took out the trash and jettisoned it over the Channel. Good riddance to bad rubbish. So why is an 80 year old murder important? The commercials. Borrow money from this start-up upstart bank that I’ve not heard of before. Buy gold. Sell your “unwanted” gold at a smaller price of course.

Infomercials lately, and the regular 30 second spots, “Mortgages being defaulted and foreclosed, buy properties for as little as a thousand dollars” … In other words, buy back into not Predatory Capitalism… but Carrion Fowl Capitalism. There’s a big service industry boost in cleaning, appraising and repairing Foreclosed Properties. And Bill Collectors, one called me about a medical bill that wasn’t even mine. I simply had said ummm… Yeah? and he launched into this spiel where in ten seconds he had called me “buddy” 4 separate times.
But the Vulture Capitalists are touting this as a way to get rich… off the blood and similar misfortunes of Other Human Beings. Kind of like, oh, je-ne sais quoi, like the Same Kind Of Investment Strategies that got America, and the rest of the world, into this financial mess in the first damn place. People who would willingly and with full knowledge before the fact scavenge their own society, their neighbors and probably even FAMILY aren’t exactly the type of people who should be trusted with the economy of the world. Although our Friends who come regularly to defend The Noble Free Market Profiteers will sharply disagree. I’ll probably get called a Bolshevik again. By the way, that’s a Russian word meaning “of the PEOPLE” so I guess that sets our critics apart from The People.

Talk about your basic narcissistic thought patterns. Kind of like their use of the word “do-gooder” as what they perceive to be an insult.
Not knowing or caring that the exact opposite of “do-gooder” is “Evildoer”. That’s truly amusing when used by people who consider themselves to be Jews or Christians. As Isaiah and Jesus put it “hypocrites who devour the houses of Widows and for a pretense make long prayers”.
Fitting that Monsieur Alfred is memorialized by such commercials.

Wasn’t the Recession simply terrible?!

From the infamous 1931 sign above a bread-and-soup line showing a happy smiling family smartly dressed riding in their new car…
Dow Jones doesn’t “slide” below 10k… it “plunges.” OOPS.
The accompanying The baby turkeys look up to see the rain, mouths wide open, and drown trying to figure it out picture on AP shows a bunch of floor traders looking up like baby turkeys drowning in the rain, with their mouths wide open watching their each individual Apocalypse coming down, drop by drop. Same expression on their faces too.
Eat the rich.
