16-year-old Jessica Watson completes solo circumnavigation, flunks geometry
When 16-year-old Jessica Watson arrives in Sidney tomorrow, she will be the youngest person to sail around the globe alone. The precocious Aussie will be denied an official record however, for the same reason the Olympics enforce a minimum age … Continue reading

English first in the Conquered Lands?
I’ve seen videos posted by Soldiers where they use native speakers to harangue their Iraqi and Afghan captives (and even their “Military Counterparts”, to use a Sixties phrase.) How long will it be before they start demanding their Conquered Subjects … Continue reading

Communist with a small c
Today’s antiwar movement wants for 60s marketing flair. This example comes by way of embittered sixties chronicler Todd Gitlin, the student for a Democratic Society eclipsed by the Radical Youth Movement and future Weather Underground leader Bernardine Dohrn, later the … Continue reading
Lessons from antiwar antecedents
I have for several weeks been submerged in the writings and poster art of the revolutionary sixties, and I’ll catch my breath to say this to the Antiwar Now from the Anti-Imperialists Then. We won no victory with the fall … Continue reading

Take a pinch of psychedelic
During the kids’ Snow Break last week, we chanced to visit the Denver Art Museum’s Psychedelic Experience exhibit. Dozens of groovy rock posters from the late sixties, mostly advertising shows at San Francisco’s Fillmore Auditorium, were on display, occasionally retro-enhanced … Continue reading

WUO terrorized government property
To clarify, the terrorist acts for which Bill Ayers and the Weather Underground are being demonized targeted only property damage and resulted in no casualties. Here is a list of 25 bombings attributed to the WUO, with notes from the … Continue reading

To Recreate 68 at the Denver DNC is not a call to incite a Rumble in the Jungle
I hope we can recreate 68. Let’s break through the media moratorium on the social issues important to us. Let’s remind the TV populace that we want to hold at least our Democratic Party politicians accountable to listen to our needs. Official channels do not permit people to raise their voices above a silent consent. The DNC in August, in Denver, is opportunity knocking in the streets. Continue reading
